Set the crab last Saturday night in a mangrove creek. retrieved it Sunday morning early 3 large male crabs, a giant female which I released back into creek and a meter long eel which also was let go.

Seafood Market in Labrador on the Gold Coast, Queensland, August 5, 2014 Australia.
Today we meet up with a person from Flickr who lives in New Zealand and we just happened to be at Surfers that same week. We had a fantastic day together. First of all we went up to the top of the Q1 building. Then we visited the seafood market before having lunch.
Labrador is a suburb located on the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia. The suburb overlooks the Gold Coast Broadwater to the east and Southport on the southern border.
There are many Aboriginal cultural sites across the Gold Coast. Labrador was part of traditional country for several families, due to the abundance of shell fish, mudcrabs, oysters and waterfowl in the area. The two local peoples most spoken of by the early settlers were the Yugambeh and Kombumerri Aboriginals.
Dawn Rix in her book Labrador - The early pioneers writes that a Scottish Engineer Robert Muir is believed to have named the area in the late 19th century after the a local fishery in north-eastern Canada, owing to the similarities both held in the recreational fishing of streams and the peninsula shape of the land.

Just minutes from Cairns CBD you can see thousands of these guys just milling around the salt plain mud among the mangroves. Being use to Sydney's Harbour it was strange for me to see these guys so close to civilisation.

Here we are in the mangrove swamp looking for supper. Mercy was the expert. She was a very nice person - but unfortunately consumptive! Apparently it is quite common among the aborigines.

We never did find out exactly where the campsite was - but it catered for no more than about 6 people at any given time. It took at least 2 hours to get here by truck. An exhausting journey.
Had another go at the kingfishers this morning, thought I'd try some horizontal shots. Trying to get some shots of an adult bird, although my perch seems to be a hit with the juveniles :) I can't say I mind :)
Cooking time. We watched and ate one, but that was enough. I prefer our own home-grown vinigered mussels out of a jar!!
Me bringing up the rear. Sometimes the boat would ground on the mudbanks. All the lads got out the boat to "portage" it over into deeper waters. Actually, when I think of it, it was a dangerous thing to do considering that most dangerous of predators - the saltwater crocodile
We took a heap of kids of all shapes and sizes to the beach today. .. too many for one mini-bus, so we had to take two.
But one little fella couldn't go in the water today, so he showed me where to find the crabs.
