Recorded at Narroways Hill Junction in July 1997, RES liveried EWS 47761 climbs away from Bristol at the head of the 5S09 afternoon empty TPO mail vans from Bristol, Barton Hill to Cardiff. The locomotive and stock would later work the evening Cardiff to Glagow Mail.

Didn't expect the sun to come out today, but it did, so a quick trip to one of my local sites to see what's going on.
Only one Scaup close, couldn't find the others at first but located them far out. One GWE reasonable close, then shots were heard and everything moved further out. we moved to the dam end, but nothing close, so returning home we stopped at the Causeway and some of the birds had started to drift back, but not far enough.

I was originally enrolled into the GETTY IMAGES collection as a contributor on April 9th 2012, and when links with FLICKR were terminated in March 2014, I was retained and fortunate enough to be signed up via a second contract, both of which have proved to be successful with sales of my photographs all over the world now handled exclusively by them.
On November 12th 2015 GETTY IMAGES unveiled plans for a new stills upload platform called ESP (Enterprise Submission Platform), to replace the existing 'Moment portal', and on November 13th I was invited to Beta test the new system prior to it being officially rolled out in December. ESP went live on Tuesday December 15th 2015 and has smoothed out the upload process considerably.
These days I take a far more leisurely approach to my photographic exploits, and having moved from professional Nikon equipment to consumer bodies and lenses, I travel light less constraints and more emphasis on the pure capture of the beauty that I see, more akin to my original persuits and goals some five decades previously when starting out. I would like to say a huge and heartfelt 'THANK YOU' to GETTY IMAGES, and the 22.893+ Million visitors to my FLICKR site.

This is my 103rd photograph to be selected, which for me is both amazing and exciting, as I never view my images as worthy compared to some of the awesome photography out there. Flickr receives about 6,000 uploads every minute -- That's about 8.6 million photos a day! As Columbus readied to move position into Sydney Harbour. I had a great view onto the city centre form a different angle.
Today Melbourne rules have changed to allow more people back into workplaces, restaurants and other venues. We are on the move, getting back to something relatively normal in the sunshine. All the best to those who are still sheltering at home and with rising rates of infections. HMMM:)
A bighorn ram works his way through the new fallen snow to forage for food on a cold winter morning in the Lamar Valley of Yellowstone National Park.
A warm spring late afternoon in the Reeseville Marsh, has the arachnid population spreading out in force for the season. Millions of spiderlings spent the day ballooning from their birthplaces on the warm spring winds. Every year, this sure is a sight to behold.

The adult humpback whale is generally 14–15 m (46–49 ft) long, though individuals up to 16–17 m (52–56 ft) long have been recorded. Females are usually 1–1.5 m (3 ft 3 in – 4 ft 11 in) longer than males.
The species can reach body masses of 40 metric tons (44 short tons). Calves are born at around 4.3 m (14 ft) long with a mass of 680 kg (1,500 lb)] The species has a bulky body with a thin rostrum and proportionally long flippers, each around one-third of its body length.[14][15] It has a short dorsal fin that varies from nearly nonexistent to somewhat long and curved.
Like other rorquals, the humpback has grooves between the tip of the lower jaw and the navel. The grooves are relatively few in number in this species, ranging from 14 to 35. The upper jaw is lined with baleen plates, which number 540–800 in total and are black in color.
The dorsal or upper side of the animal is generally black; the ventral or underside has various levels of black and white coloration. Whales in the southern hemisphere tend to have more white pigmentation. The flippers can vary from all-white to white only on the undersurface. Some individuals may be all white, notably Migaloo who is a true albino. The varying color patterns and scars on the tail flukes distinguish individual animals.[
The end of the genital slit of the female is marked by a round feature, known as the hemispherical lobe, which visually distinguishes males and females.[15][19]
Unique among large whales, humpbacks have bumps or tubercles on the head and front edge of the flippers; the tail fluke has a jagged trailing edge. The tubercles on the head are 5–10 cm (2.0–3.9 in) thick at the base and protrude up to 6.5 cm (2.6 in).
They are mostly hollow in the center, often containing at least one fragile hair that erupts 1–3 cm (0.39–1.18 in) from the skin and is 0.1 mm (0.0039 in) thick. The tubercles develop early in gestation and may have a sensory function, as they are rich in nerves. Sensory nerve cells in the skin are adapted to withstand the high water pressure of diving.
In one study, a humpback whale brain measured 22.4 cm (8.8 in) long and 18 cm (7.1 in) wide at the tips of the temporal lobes, and weighed around 4.6 kg (10 lb). The humpback's brain has a complexity similar to that of the brains of smaller whales and dolphins.
The structure of the eye indicates that eyesight is relatively poor, being only able to see silhouettes over long distances and finer details relatively close. Computer models of the middle ear suggest that the humpback can hear at frequencies between 15 Hz and 3 kHz "when stimulated at the tympanic membrane", and between 200 Hz and 9 kHz "if stimulated at the thinner region of the tympanic bone adjacent to the tympanic membrane". These ranges are consistent with their vocalization ranges.
As in all cetaceans, the respiratory tract of the humpback whale is connected to the blowholes and not to the mouth, although the species appears to be able to unlock the epiglottis and larynx and move them towards the oral cavity, allowing humpbacks to blow bubbles from their mouths. The vocal folds of the humpback are more horizontally positioned than those of land mammals which allows them to produce underwater calls. These calls are amplified by a laryngeal sac.

Boat-tailed Grackles are large, lanky songbirds with rounded crowns, long legs, and fairly long, pointed bills. Males have very long tails that make up almost half their body length and they typically hold them folded in a V-shape, like the keel of a boat.
The glossy blue-black males are hard to miss as they haul their ridiculously long tails around or display them from marsh grasses or trees. They are so common Everglades guides nicknamed them swamp rats. They are all over the Everglades! Fun to observe.

For hours and hours I've been watching these incredible birds building a nest, catching fish and making love. Spring is in the air!!!
The Great Crested Grebe is a member of the grebe family of water birds.
This Grebe is 46-51 cm long with a 59-73 cm wingspan. It is an excellent swimmer and diver and pursues its fish prey underwater. The adults are unmistakable in summer with head and neck decorations. It is the largest European grebe.
The young are remarkable because their heads are striped black and white, much like zebras. They lose these markings when they become adults.
