Papamu (the checkerboard of small holes) are the game board for Konane. This is a fascinating game of strategy with more rules than I have time to relate right now.
Very basically, every move consists of jumping your opponent (as in checkers); multiple jumps are allowed, diagonal jumps are not allowed, the last player to jump is the winner. But there's so much strategy involved that to reduce it to such simplicity is to do it a disservice. And in a game as evenly matched as this one, the game could go on for quite a while!

... and another one to come, I'm afraid. On 21 July we got the keys of our new house and on 7 August we will have to finish the whole move operation.
So this week I painted, waxed the floor, cleaned the kitchen, moved a lot of stuff we haven't used for ages from attic A to attic B, etcetera. Why do (most) people hang on to so much stuff they will never use again?
I also did something I hadn't done for more than 30 odd years. I mowed "our" lawn and loved it. The large garden is one of the reasons we are moving to this house and we have already enjoyed quite a few short breaks in it.
As I don't like exercising in a gym, this is going to be my way of keeping fit.
Students began their school year on Sunday with move in day at the University of Central Arkansas. College and community groups helped move the students into their new dorms, and a lunch was provided by the UCA Alumni Association.
The hail cloud was in fact moving out, but its shape reminded me of a big mother of a pike moving in over a minnow, jaws spread wide. The minnow won't stand a chance...

This little tyke couldn't be more than 4 years old. He was weaving in between people on his scooter like a pro. Very impressive - but not as impressive as getting 5 diagonally on my DMCC Photowalk Bingo card in 2012!

A new chapter for Pataphysical Studios started today, as we moved the 'Pataphysical Slot Machine to a new home. Our poetic oracle made its maiden journey to the hilltop ranch of Drs. Canard and Figurine, after six years of art incubation in Dr. Rindbrain’s backyard.
The move went very smoothly, with a fine crew of goggled pataphysicians on hand. It took us about four hours to load, unload and set up the exhibit, on a balmy Saturday afternoon. Getting the electronics connected took about an hour — and we got it all working, with a bit of soldering and ritual incantations.
We celebrated this historic occasion with a shot of absinthe and lots of good cheer. Ubu and the Slot Machine seem to fit right in their new home: a lovely guest room with a private entrance, overlooking an idyllic garden with views of the bay.
We plan to host viewing parties and open studios every few months, so others in our community can get to experience the Slot Machine and its magical wonderboxes. Long live Ubu!

There’s plenty of space at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Greater Lansing, Michigan. Four evenings a week, English as a Second Language classes occupy just a fraction of the square footage in the building, a former school that the congregation renovated and has occupied since June 2016. In January 2017, the church began offering free ESL classes in partnership with a local language school. That offering, and the momentum that has followed, led the Unitarian Universalist Association to name the church a 2018 Breakthrough Congregation.

Members of the incoming freshman class at Western Carolina University receive plenty of smiles and helping hands from faculty, staff and returning students at Freshman Move-in Day on Friday, Aug. 14. An army of volunteers in on hand to assist the newest members of the Catamount family as they move belongings into their new homes away from home for fall semester.
