Mount Washington is part of the Cascades Mountain Range that runs north/south through Washington and Oregon. At a peak elevation of just 7,798 feet, it appears taller than that. (Sisters Oregon area 130.jpg)

Mount Kenya shot from the verandah of Rhino Retreat in the Aberdares National Park. From here it is about 62 km or 38 miles to the summit.

Mount Kenya is the second highest mountain in Africa after Kilimanjaro, at a whopping 5,199 metres above sea level. There is always some snow and ice at its summit. Rhino Retreat itself is just below the 2,500 metre mark.

There is usually cloud on the summit in the afternoons, at least as viewed from the west. This was a much clearer afternoon than average. There is a big rain storm coming in on the left edge of shot, off to the south. Luckily, it missed us.

An interesting bit of gold mining history related to Mount Pisgah ...

Near the saddle on the backside of Whitney at the 13,400ft level with 2 miles to the 14,500ft summit. With late afternoon weather coming in, it's a race to summit and descend to safety before the thunderstorms hit.

I've spent quite some time in Portland, but had never managed to see Mount Hood due to overcast skies. Finally on my last vist, as I took off from the airport all was revealed...

Mount Iwaki (1,624 meters), is clearly visible from the highway between Aomori and Hirosaki, Japan.

A re-appraisal of an older file of the famous tree(now gone) on Lochan na h-Achlaise with the Black Mount as a striking backdrop.

This was shot in the gardens behind St Michaels Mount. I’d spotted the crystal clear turquoise sea from the terrace and just had to get down to the waters edge. I knew that the movement in the waves would add some contrast and drama to the backdrop of the dominant castle.

note: i've had some techinical questions about this image that need some clrification.

I used an nd-graduated filter doubled up with a nd 8 and a polarizer to get the colours and to deal with the reflections and to get the movement. Also for double safety I bracketed it and filled in any burned out areas.... I personally feel it needs just a bit more dodge and burn but I didn’t want to over work it. And I need some time to reflect on this.

This view of Mount Katahdin during autumn in Northern Maine was taken on October 12 from the shore of Compass Pond. Mount Katahdin is in Baxter State Park. Please also visit: www.acadiamagic.com/.

Looking NNE from Cougar Blvd and about 500 W in Provo, Utah.

Well, I'm bored and I kind of have problems with taking any -in my eyes - good new photos so I keep posting some old. As I didn't show you any of my trip to Italy this February I wanted to show you at least my faves. I've been to Rome, Pompeii, Naples and Sorrento! Very impressive!

Let's start with the Mount Vesuvius! It's been a breathtaking view from there and it was just beautiful. :)

SOOC.

Looking across a nearby snow cornice towards Mount Kerkeslin (2984m or 9791ft) which is the highest peak of the Maligne Range in the Canadian Rockies. Named in 1859 by James Hector, the reason for the name was not recorded and remains a mystery with some now believing the name of the mountain was based on a lost Indian word for wolverine. True to its name, the Steep Ravine Trail in Mount Tamalpais State Park is a steep and narrow trail but fascinating.

The last of the great Yorkshire monasteries, founded in 1398 and the best preserved Carthusian monastery in England. It was also one of the last monasteries in Yorkshire to be suppressed during the Reformation.

Mount Nageli ( 2165m) is more or less unfamous. It is located westwards of the famous Churfirsten mountain chain and eastwards of the easily accessible Leistkamm (2101m). Walking alongside the Toggenburger Hohenweg you get to the feet of the mountain at 1820m. You have to walk over a boulder field first, and then along a steep meadow/moss slope. This T3 categorized way get’s the last out of you. It’s really exhausting. The summit has only occasional visitors. The last entry in the guest book of the summit cross was in February 2011 – three months ago.

I have chosen mount Nageli because of all the summits around it has the best 360° view and you can see the Churfirsten tops in one row. If you do such a ascent, you have to stay for a while. I get up in the evenings, stayed during the night to take pictures and get down in the morning.
