Mount Rainier as viewed from the parking lot at Paradise, Mount Rainier National Park, Washington State.

Mount Rainier also known as Tahoma or Tacoma, is a large active stratovolcano in Cascadia located 59 miles (95 km) south-southeast of Seattle, Mount Rainier National Park. With a summit elevation of 14,411 ft (4,392 m), it is the highest mountain in the U.S. state of Washington, and of the Cascade Range of the Pacific Northwest, the most topographically prominent mountain in the contiguous United States, and the tallest in the Cascade Volcanic Arc. Mt. Rainier is considered one of the most dangerous volcanoes in the world because of its large amount of glacial ice, Mt. Rainier could produce massive lahars that could threaten the entire Puyallup River valley

Mount Sarakura is one of the major peaks of the Hobashira Mountains, and the most popular peak for visitors on the mountains. The Sarakurayama Cable Car and Sarakurayama Slope Car allow visitors to travel to the top from Yahata. A short walk from the slope car station are several buildings that house transmitters for TV and radio stations that serve Kitakyushu and the surrounding area.

There is an observation platform that is popular with tourists as it provides spectacular views of Kitakyushu's "10 Million Dollar Night View". The mountain is selected as one of the New Three Major Night Views of Japan (新日本三大夜景) in 2003.

Photographed last summer in the Mount Adams Wilderness, Washington State. I finally took time to stitch a few photos together to make the panorama. The heart of the Goat Rocks Wilderness, including PCT from about Elk Pass to Cispus Pass are visible. The Old Snowy, Ives and Gilbert Peaks are visible. IMG_6685

Canada's Rockies' highest mountain is located near Jasper in Alberta. Even in mid summer there is snow on the peak.

A view of Mount Christo Rey and the surrounding area from Transmountain Drive in El Paso, Texas. Mt. Christo Rey lies partially in El Paso, Texas, part in New Mexico and part in old Mexico (Ciudad Jarez). El Paso is in the foreground, and Mexico lies behind the new mountain. The taller mountains are all in Mexico. The Rio Grande River runs by the mountain though the lowest point in the valley. In the foreground, you can see a bit of the native Chihuauan Desert vegetation.

This image is a labor of love. Originally begun in 2022 and finally finished this year. It is comprised of images from 2 different telescopes, 2 different cameras, two types of binning, and 9 different exposure lengths. I had no idea how difficult it would be to marry all this data together. Finally, here it is.

Discovered in 1702 by the German astronomer Gottfried Kirch, M5 is one of the oldest globular clusters in the Milky Way galaxy. With an apparent magnitude of 6.7 and a location 25,000 light-years away in the constellation Serpens, M5 appears as a patch of light with a pair of binoculars and is best viewed during May.

A majority of M5’s stars formed more than 12 billion years ago, but there are some unexpected newcomers on the scene, adding some vitality to this aging population.

Stars in globular clusters are believed to form in the same stellar nursery and grow old together. The most massive stars age quickly, exhausting their fuel supply in less than a million years, and end their lives in spectacular supernova explosions. This process should have left the ancient cluster M5 with only old, low-mass stars.

Yet astronomers have spotted many young, blue stars amongst the ancient stars in this cluster. Astronomers think that these laggard youngsters, called blue stragglers, were created either by collisions between stars or other stellar interactions. Such events are easy to imagine in densely populated globular clusters, in which up to a few million stars are tightly packed together. Text from NASA/Goddard

M5 V2 is perhaps slightly better. V2 used a masked stretch, which made the stars smaller but resulted in a clouded overall look. In V3 I decided to go with a more conventional stretch for better clarity.

I took on the entire Berg Lake Trail in Mount Robson Provincial Park yesterday. Round trip, it is over 50 kilometres in length. I made it to Berg Lake and back in 9 hours and 7 minutes. You spend almost all your time on the trail hiking in this behemoths shadow. Once the valley opens up to Berg Lake itself, pictures do not do the place justice. It rendered me speechless. It was a day well spent and I'm very happy I took on such a crazy journey.

Mount Lycabettus is a Cretaceous limestone hill in the Greek capital Athens. At 300 meters (908 feet) above sea level, its summit is the highest point in Athens and pine trees cover its base. The hill is a tourist destination and can be ascended by the Lycabettus Funicular, a funicular railway which climbs the hill from a lower terminus at Kolonaki.

Aoraki Mount Cook National Park is home of the highest mountains and the longest glaciers. It is alpine in the purest sense - with skyscraping peaks, glaciers and permanent snow fields, all set under a star-studded sky

Aoraki / Mount Cook is the highest mountain in New Zealand. Its height since 2014 is listed as 3,724 metres, down from 3,764 m before December 1991, due to a rockslide and subsequent erosion.

I usually like to shoot into the sunset to catch the bright glow of the sun and the reflected colour on the water and rocks in the foreground. However, when I was shooting St Michaels mount one evening in August the light behind the mount was so nice I just had to grab an image or two.
