L'Isola Tiberina, nata in modo alluvionale, è l'unica isola urbana del Tevere, nel centro di Roma.
Secondo la leggenda, l’isola si sarebbe formata nel 510 a.C. dai covoni del grano mietuto a Campo Marzio, di proprietà del re Tarquinio il Superbo al momento della rivolta: alcuni studi proverebbero che l'isola ha origini molto anteriori all'evento. L’isola ospitò il tempio di Esculapio, dio della medicina, il cui culto fu introdotto nel 292 a.C. in seguito ad una pestilenza. Nella prima metà del I secolo a.C. venne monumentalizzata in opera quadrata, parallelamente alla costruzione dei ponti Fabricio e Cestio, e del Vicus Censorius che li collegava al suo interno.

The Tiberina Island, born in a floodplain, is the only urban island of the Tiber in central Rome.
According to legend, the island would be formed in 510 BC by sheaves of wheat harvested in Campo Marzio, owned by the king Tarquinius Superbus, during the rebellion. Some studies show that the island has origins much earlier of this event. The island was home to the Temple of Aesculapius, the god of medicine, whose cult was introduced in 292 BC after a plague. In the first half of the first century BC, the island became a monument in a square work ,in the same period of the construction of the Fabricio and Cestio bridges and of the Vicus Censorius that linked them inside.

On the right and centre here are wood artifact pieces from the Choir of the Duomo (circa 1330-70) that were moved to the MODO Museum because of restoration work in 1859. The large triangular panel is the 'Coronation of the Virgin' and below it are the two Annunciation Statues.
On the right is the 'Madonna and Child with Angels' from a polyptych painted by Simone Martini (circa 1322).
