A few days ago, I purchased this model on the Internet. It arrived last night so I took a few photos.
While far from finished, the straightened boiler is partially reassembled and placed on the reassembled rear engine. More work is needed on the finish and more details need to be reattached.

The 1929-built, the Civic Opera Building is a 45 Story high-rise and is home to the Lyric Opera of Chicago. Here we see an HO-Scale verson of it at the Museum of Science and Industry's "Great Train Story" exhibit.
A gentle late night snow falls, as the extra E79 east is in regeneration by the Winter substation. Dad did an exquisite job on his modeling of the Cle Elum substation.

As a V&O MOW crew gets to work with a ballast regulator, a long exposure reveals a train moving in the background at Jimtown, VA.
Another nice little Hallmark Colorado Midland engine. This one is a 2-8-0, painted for the D&RGW. I bought this on Ebay last night, these are the seller's photos
I have re-assembled this model after cleaning and repair of broken and missing parts. It was a rather sparse in details, and I did not add any to this project just to keep the appearance original. Some small items still need tweaking, but, for the most part it is done. This is the first Akane model that I have seen that came with a serial / production number. This one is number 93, and it is stamped in several locations with the number. These are common models, so this must be number 93 of hundreds made. This is the 1959 run year, with un-sprung drivers. The videos are the first and second test runs after assembly, they are not good, but, you get the idea anyway.
Setup which took 12 hours (!)

East Tennessee & Western North Carolina #40, "Azalea", is seen at a model railroad show in LaGrange.
Likely this is a parlor Car.
A recent purchase, the model was in rough shape. All of the valve gear needed work, many parts needed to be re-soldered. Made by Akane Models on March 11, 1963. Distributed in the USA by Gem Models.

This is a very rare PFM Crown model in HO scale. This represents one of only twenty five models made in the first run (1958). Made under the United Models name plate, the premier Japanese maker, Toby Models, made these semi-hand made models to extreme precision and high quality. For it's time, this was one of the top of the line models. Stamped #10 on the left side of the rear frame rail, this model has many features that the subsequent runs did not have (or, where in various stages of these features). Highly detailed cab interior for one. Other details which point to the run year is the hand built train control box mounted on the boiler, the absence of window sashes (all of the following runs had window sashes), a single generator (although two later runs had a single generator, this combination of details gives it away as the 1958 model.

I grabbed some shots of the WECX 800 as it made a few runs through Columbia back in 2013 and 2014 between Charleston and the nuclear statin that was then under construction near Jenkinsville, South Carolina. WECX 800 is a heavy deuty rail car designed for the heaviest of the heavy loads to be delivered by North American railroads. It is called a Schnabel car. It is designed to carry heavy and oversized loads in such a way that the load makes up part of the car. The load is suspended between the two ends of the cars by lifting arms; the lifting arms are connected to an assembly of span bolsters that distribute the weight of the load and the lifting arm
The two largest Schnabel cars in operation are owned and operated by by Kasgro Railcar for Westinghouse Nuclear and are used in North America primarily to transport reactor containment vessels.
This car, WECX 800, has 36 axles. Each half of the car contains nine trucks which are connected by a complex system of span bolsters.over a large number of wheels.
The word Schnabel is from German Tragschnabelwagen, meaning "carrying-beak-wagon", because of the usually tapered shape of the lifting arms, resembling a bird's beak.
This model was just delivered today. This is the first run on my test track. The model was a little sluggish, but, that was expected since it hasn't run in some time.

The boys had their work cut out for them this week as two ONR SD40-2's were in for new paint. But they are looking good now. You can check out the before and after pictures. From the before pictures they were in need of the paint. LOL Of course it is the other way around.

The real SN 301-A was an EMD F3A. Reportedly, it was built in 1948 as NYO&W 501, builders number 3146. Purchased in 1957 it became SN 301-A. It was retired circa 1970, traded to EMD.

This is a Custom Brass New York Central P-2A Electric Locomotive in HO scale that I bought recently. I spent this weekend repairing it. It was a basket case and was missing some parts. I still have to find a pantograph shoe for the roof to complete it, but, now it looks much better and runs very well.

I bought this early hand built brass model recently. It is un-restored, but runs very well. These early hand built models are extremely rare, with only a handful in the world, for me, they are an exciting find for my collection. This model is unmarked, therefore, I am not sure who the maker was, but, I suspect it was made by Tetsudo or Kawai Models sometime between 1950 and 1955. (Sorry for the bad photos, these were the best I could get using my iphone).
