Yep, still love it! What year is the new season supposed to be in? '69, '70? Joan in bell bottoms?!

I can't wait.

Architect: John Zemanek

Houston Mod is hosting our "Mod of the Month" there today. Professor John Zemanek built this house in 1968 for himself and his collection of Asian art. It's supposed to be a combination of mid century modernism and Japanese design, but not in a kooky way. It is one of Houston's most important houses, and I'll hopefully have some pictures up soon. I don't think anyone would say it's endangered, so that's not really a concern. The dean of the University of Houston's College of Architecture currently owns the house.

I see this set come up for sale fairly often. Nice to view in its natural habitat.

We bought a sofa! Over the holiday weekend we picked up this beautiful early '60s Danish Modern Dux sofa that is the perfect size for our living room. As you can probably tell from the picture, it was badly damaged and stained. It also smells pretty awful due to mold (and cat urine?). The back of the sofa was badly ripped & torn but we absolutely loved the design and it was very comfortable so we decided to buy it. We plan to have it reupholstered in vintage Danish fabric that's a beautiful shade of green and very complementary to the period and style of the sofa. I also hope to salvage any remaining original fabric scraps by having them dry cleaned and turning them into throw pillows.

My husband thinks I'm a little nuts, but it's mid century, and it's going to be fantastic when it's done. Of course we moved it in the middle of a torrential downpour and a tornado watch, hence the fan drying it.

What a great view.

As a suggested color scheme. Works for me.

Shot with Sony A9 and Canon 24mmTSE shifted and merged to get the extra height. One flash far CR pointing towards slat wall and another CL BOC.

The ubiquitous guitar. Good for playing Puff the Magic Dragon and Blowing in the Wind, at least in my childhood home.

I got two LCMs and put them here to see how they'd go. They're actually going elsewhere but it was good to speculate

► Royal's Crystal on the Prestige shape, later produced as Star Glow on the much more common Futura shape. Likely produced prior to 1962; decoration attributed to Gene Patterson (who also designed collector's favorite Blue Heaven).

From a place called modern woodworks that does ESU type pieces. Lamp is purportedly Frederick Weinberg for Laurel. **update 6/2012, it appears the lamp may be designed by architect Maurizio Tempestini.

Glass piece by an artist friend, the rest .50 thrift store finds.

I'm a sucker for pink and orange.

It has a nice guest room, you're welcome to visit.
