A few weeks ago, I ventured down to Seattle to see Jeffrey Combs' newest film, Abominable on the big screen.
My adventure begins thusly (as taken from the JCFC board):
I went to the Abominable Seattle premiere yesterday.
Words can't even begin to explain how awesome it was to see Jeff on the big screen!!! But I'll try...
I got to the theater for the 1:10 screening and bought my ticket. When I got up to the kiosk, the theater manager stopped me.
Him: Are you here to see Abominable?
I nod excitedly.
Him: Okay, we have some good news and some bad news. The bad news is that we're not having the 1:10 showing because we can't figure out how to play it.
Me: HUH?
Him: The file came to us digitally and we haven't been able to de-encode it yet. We've been on the phone all morning trying to figure this out.
Me: (crestfallen) I drove all the way from Bellingham to see this!
Him: Well, the good news is that I'm going to refund your money and give you a free ticket to see any movie you want. We might have the next show at 3:40. Stick around for half an hour and I'll let you know.
I was seriously bummed out by this point and went to sit in the theater's coffee bar to relax.
A quirky older man with glasses approached me. The projectionist. "Hey, we'll probably have the showing at 3:40."
*heart lifts, grin approaches my face*
"So you drove all the way from Bellingham for this film? Can I ask why?"
"Two words - Jeffrey Combs."
(Yes, I'm a dorky fan, but a happy one) :D *blush*
It turns out that the guy had been fighting to de-encode the film since 10am, but finally figured it out. And the thing is, I didn't mind waiting a bit. It was worth it. :)
Jeff was...I can't say it without totally embarrassing myself. :blushing: Let's just say amazingly incredible and leave it at that. :D The "campfire scene" did not disappoint. He also did this lisp thing like he had no teeth, which was just adorable. A lot of people in the theatre really liked his character and gave him good laughs, especially at the "smelly son-of-a-bitch" line. :)
And call me a dork if you want, but...I saw it again!!! I figured this would be my big chance (before Monster Mania!!!) to see Jeff on the big screen. And I also felt bad that I got in free the first time and wanted to give Jeff and the movie some revenue. :)

Now...fast forward to a few days later, on the "Guts and Gorey" messageboard. Ryan Schifrin, director of Abominable has a forum on the board for the film. I post my little adventure there, plus the two pics I posted earlier in my photostream because I took them for him. I figured a first time director would love to see his film on the marquee and what the movie poster looked like and essentially get some feedback on how the movie was received.
Ryan and I exchanged a few PM's and I found out he's a huge Jeff Combs fan too!!! We instantly hit it off and for my "trouble" (although it wasn't any trouble waiting for Jeff!) :) he said he'd ask Jeff to sign a mini-poster for me.
There are a LOT of other things that I've posted about in my livejournal that are too "girl-screamy" to say here, but suffice it to say, Jeff has uttered my name, which gives me unending delight. :)
*sigh*

Of all the pictures I've ever posted to the old photolog on my website, I recently learned that this is the most popular. It's turned up on about a dozen message boards and it sucks up an intriguing amount of bandwidth. (It is the best image on a Google Images search for "mcgriddle," if you don't count the picture of the fat kid that tends to accompany this one on all those messageboard posts). I don't have the heart to do an image-blocking widget on my site, but it'd be great it people linked to this image on Flickr now instead of from my server. Not very likely though.
I continue to believe that McGriddles are horribly gross, by the way. Give me a sausage-egg-and-cheese biscuit or McMuffin any day. In fact, I had a McMuffin this morning and I don't regret a morsel of it. It was positively succulent. But keep your rubbery, syrup-soaked quasi-flapjacks away from my saturated fats, thank you very much.

G-BOAF BAC/Aerospatiale Concorde interior displayed in its purpose built exhibition hall at Aerospace Bristol Museum, Filton 9/8/19. This aircraft was the last Concorde built and also the very last to fly when it was delivered to Filton on the 26th November 2003

Driving northbound US-93 just northwest of the I-40 interchange, driving up the hill and approaching a traffic message board indicating travel time to Bullhead City (34 minutes away) and to Hoover Dam (just over an hour) as we leave Kingman.
Notice the small "Future I-11 Corridor" sign just past the message board.

Fancy electronic street sign - they are usually telling us that the street is a.closed or b/squeezed in to one lane! The wheels are removed as an anti-theft deterrent - though why anyone would steal it is beyond me. A bit too big as a living room decoration!
Front and back of this one-of-a-kind clipboard are covered with coordinating vintage inspired papers of blue and yellow. The edges are sanded for a distressed look and decoupaged with lots of layers of mod podge and an acrylic sealer. To finish, the clipboard is embellished with lots of ribbon and tag that says "Those Were the Days."
Measurement: 12-1/2" x 9"

Story Time: I bought this from one of Drive-Thru's grasping-at-straws clearance sales for only $6. I brought it with me to the last Early November show I ever went to in Baltimore, MD (Ram's Head Live w/ New Found Glory, Cartel, & Hit The Lights) in order for the band to sign it. I'm somewhat of a dedicated TEN fan: drove countless miles for them, posted on the TENboards for YEARS, and have held friendships not only with the band members but the people I met through them (messageboards, shows, etc) ever since. About a year previous I had given the whole band some tins of my incredible homemade fudge for Christmas and Ace had emailed me personally to get me to make more for them. He forever remembered me as "the fudge kid" and thusly signed my record "Hey Dude! Wheres the fudge? - Ace Enders" When he did, his now-wife, Jen exclaimed "Arthur!" and apologized to me. I didn't mind.
I'm way too much of a fanboy.
