Three-shot panorama at Yosemite's famous Valley View, as the Merced River reflects the sight on an unusually stormy day in mid-July. I have stood in this spot literally hundreds of times, and it absolutely never gets old.

Merry Christmas to everyone, and a Happy New Year, as well!

Multi-shot panorama of the Merced River and the gates of the valley on a sunny afternoon after a summer storm brought back the lush green colors of spring for a time.

The fiery rays of the setting sun illuminating the top of El Capitan in Yosemite Valley.

On my way to find a parking spot in Yosemite Valley to wait and watch the Horsetail Fall phenomena, I had to stop at the edge of the Merced River to take a reflection shot! I am addicted to the beauty in Yosemite National Park!

Another shot from a great weekend in Yosemite as we headed up to shoot the valley while it was covered in snow. My buddy Tom and I were very surprised to see that the vast majority of the Christmas day snowstorm had not melted yet and we spent long hours shooting over two days. The bummer on this particular trip was that we chose to stay in Bass Lake, which meant having to put chains on the Prius and driving at a snail's pace down highway 41 and back again the next morning. We arrived shortly after 6 AM the next morning, but made a beeline for the Merced River as we wanted to catch the sun coming up behind the trees with the river in the foreground. As soon as the sun hit the river, clouds of mist began to form and both of us spent the next half hour or so shooting before heading over to Yosemite Village for some coffee.

I was also pleased with the sunburst from the Rokinon 12 mm fisheye which saw quite a bit of use over those two days.

The Yosemite Valley looks really spectacular this winter. The snow from December is still hanging on and is making for great views through out the park. This is one stop that I always like to make on my way out of the park.

The river bed has changed this year because of debris piling up along the river shoreline. It created an outcropping that was perfect for tripods. It allowed us to get more of the water into the frame and I really like the result. I would've stayed for the sunset, but the cloud gods weren't looking down kindly on this trip.

We've been having unseasonably warm weather right now and this snow probably won't last long. If you're within a days drive of here, it's worth the road trip for the winter scenery this year.

The Three Brothers formation just after the sun as risen. The edges of Eagle Peak, Middle Brother, and Little Brother are illuminated and reflected in the spring waters of the Merced River.

Last hours of 2021, as the last sunset of the year descends on Yosemite Valley, draped in a blanket of fresh snow, interrupted only by the gently meandering Merced River, the only clue marking passage of time.

So I took my friend from Hawaii to Yosemite as he has never been there before. It was only one day trip on our way from Eastern Sierra. Our stop at each vantage point was pretty short since we didn't start from Lee Vining until the afternoon. As I am very familiar with Yosemite already, I knew the late afternoon light would be perfect for some photography in Yosemite Valley. I timed our stop at this favorite spot of mine and I was delighted to see the soft light on those granite towers. This was our grand finale before we called it a day and headed home.

Hope you are enjoying a lovely weekend! Thanks for stopping by and for all of your kind comments, awards and faves -- I appreciate them all.

Tunnel View of Yosemite Valley. The view includes the iconic features of the park. Last time I stood here it was a heavy down pour and the time before that I was standing there with a dead DSLR battery and my cell phone.

A shot of Half Dome with the Merced River on a cloudy spring morning. I remembered this spot from my last visit here when there were about 10 other photographers vying for places to set-up. This morning, it was just me. The river was actually running a bit high, so no reflections of Half Dome, but still a lovely and peaceful scene.

A nice cloud was hanging onto the top of El Capitan all day long, and it made for some nice drama at sunset. Another great workshop with the Aperture Academy.

Part of North America's tallest waterfall, Lower Yosemite Fall is the final 98-meter drop. Deafening in spring and early summer when the waterfall peaks in volume, you can expect to get sprayed with water when standing on the footbridge near its base.

Half Dome is reflected in the Merced River on a February evening.

This massive granite monolith greets visitors to Yosemite Valley. This photo was taken in early February, before the worst winter storms dropped many feet of snow and forced Yosemite National Park to close due to flooding.

A water-level shot of one of my favorite, most-visited spots, from way back in the archives.

Feeling nostalgic for times past and for California on this cold, wintery day in New England.

One of my favorite spots anywhere, on an uncharacteristically stormy midsummer's day. When the soft, diffused overcast light brought out the lush greens of the leaves and needles, reinvigorated after a much-needed rain. This is Valley View, in Yosemite National Park.

Thanks very much for stopping by, and for your continued kind comments and favorites. I hope you have a wonderful day.

The Merced River crashes through a rocky spot just below Vernal Falls. The photo was taken along the Mist Trail, a trail whose name very accurately describes the hiking experience here. It's a good idea to bring a raincoat during the late spring when the river and falls are at their peak. I didn't forget mine as there was already a light rain falling.
