A beautiful morning at Gates of the Valley, after a big snow storm.
The Gates of the Valley, also known as Valley View, is a beautiful viewpoint along the Merced River. You can see El Capitan on the left and Bridalveil Fall on the right.
Have a blessed Sunday everyone!

Tengan un bendecido Domingo todos!
When standing on the Swinging Bridge in Yosemite you get this view of the Upper Yosemite Falls reflected in the Merced River. This was taken in the early morning which is generally the best time to get the calm water.

Have a wonderful week ahead!
It was getting late in the day and the Mrs. was growing tired of driving around Yosemite Valley while I scanned for good photo ops, and a parking spot to go with it... a feat that is almost impossible with the crowds that enter the park each day.
Suddenly, while I’m looking down fiddling with settings on my camera, my wife pulls into a spot along the Merced River and says “is this what you’re looking for.” ... Made my day !!
Bridalveil Fall:
Bridalveil Fall is one of the most prominent waterfalls in the Yosemite Valley in California. The waterfall is 188 meters (617 ft) in height and flows year-round.
The glaciers that carved Yosemite Valley left many hanging valleys that spawned the waterfalls that pour into the valley. Most of the waterways that fed these falls carved the hanging valleys into steep cascades, however Bridalveil Creek still leaps into the valley from the edge of the precipice.
The primary source of Bridalveil Fall is Ostrander Lake, some 16 kilometers (9.9 mi) to the south.
In a brisk wind, the falling water is often blown sideways, and when the flow is light, it may not reach the ground directly below. Because of this, the Ahwahneechee Native Americans called this waterfall "Pohono", which means "Spirit of the Puffing Wind".

We drove to Yosemite in the morning to view a most spectacular day of beauty after a nice snowfall from the night before. It was hard to decide where to take sunset photos from as the options were many! 2/1/2016
We planned to visit Yosemite over the Christmas holiday school break, and despite the federal government shutdown continued the trip. I'm glad we did.
At 26°F, it was a chilly morning and each stop for pictures was a challenge. I am very glad we stopped here.

One of my favorite spots in Yosemite Valley to enjoy the beautiful views in an uncrowded and serene setting behind the historic Ahwahnee Hotel.
Half dome on an early morning from the banks of the Merced River, across from Housekeeping Camp.
Thank you all for viewing and many faves, warm comments and awards to the series of photos of Yosemite. This will be the last posting from my Feb 2020 visit to the park - posted 34 out of some 3,000 photos that I took in the 10 day stay.
I do look forward to the next visit - had purchased a flight ticket to San Francisco for the next winter, before this COVID-19. I hope we all will become able to resume travelling soon.

The setting winter sun casts a deep red glow on the tip of Half Dome in Yosemite National Park. The Merced River flows slowly with air temperatures below freezing, creating a wonderful reflecting pool just north of the Sentinel Bridge.
Between the frigid temperatures and the government shutdown at the time, Yosemite was far more quiet than it usual is, with only a few intrepid souls at this iconic location.
As we seemingly turn the corner on the COVID-19 pandemic, I can't help but be hopeful about the opportunity to freely visit such places again.

A quiet morning by the Merced River, Yosemite Valley. Across from the House Keeping Camp, where the river flows gently through a 90 degree curve. Looking toward upstream.
With the river flow so calm, and no human-made sound, I enjoyed the beautiful view and complete silence.

John Muir once opined, "It is by far the grandest of all the special temples of Nature I was ever permitted to enter."
Yosemite National Park is a study in grandeur, from the massive granite cliffs to the towering giant sequoias, it is home to some of the most breathtaking spectacles on earth.
America's National Parks are some of the greatest treasures in the world, and people should make every effort to take in their beauty in person. I hope that, in some small way, sharing some of my images on social media and the internet helps to inspire people to unplug and explore for themselves, these "special temples of Nature."

This is what is known as Valley View on the Yosemite Floor..
What makes this photo for me is the leaning tree. Sadly that tree is not going to last.
Waiting for sunset at this favorite spot in Yosemite, a moment of glow appears on El Capitan and reflects in the Merced River. What a gift to be able to stand at the river's edge and take it all in!
Quiet morning on the bank of the Merced River. Except for occasional passing of vehicles, there was no human-made sound at all, and in front of the calm flow of the river, I was surrounded by complete silence with birds singing and squirrels moving on tree branches. It was a beautiful morning.

A couple of weeks after I took this photo, my credit card company sent me a renewal card that has this same scene on it, except my photo is a bit wider and taken during the winter. Hope you like it!!! :)
If you have any questions about this photo or about photography in general, I will do my best to help, just post a comment or send me a Flickr mail and I will respond as quickly as possible.

Also known as the Valley View, this vista gives a great ground level view of the Yosemite Valley. While not as expansive as the Tunnel View, this vista has a lot of great compositions and vantage points from which to shoot from and emphasize different features within your frame. And in the winter, you get the bonus of snow and fog on the river which can add an air of mystery to your composition.

Three Brothers and their reflections on the Merced River, a view from Cathedral Beach, Yosemite Valley, first week of December 2018. The scenery was so large, I had to separate it into two photos (APS-C Sensor Camera, 17mm Lens) - please see "img_4048hd" for the other half.

This is my favorite view in Yosemite. The reflections seem to be best on an afternoon in the Fall when the water of the Merced River is calm and lower than the Spring, though I've taken it in all seasons.
Winter is my favorite time to visit Yosemite, when there is magic in the landscape and the trees are laced with snow. This is the Merced River from Pohono Bridge.

View of North Dome and Tenaya Canyon across Sentinel Meadow and Merced River, on the morning 5 days after the 15-20 cm (6-8 inches) snow, first week of December 2018.
Mist still rising from remaining snow on the meadow. The Merced River in the foreground appears narrow due to reflections of the river bank/edge of meadow on its surface.
