I've been corrected on this....it's actually The Three Sisters. Taken at Valley View in Yosemite National Park.

Reflections of Cathedral Rock and nearby forest on the Merced River, at Cathedral Beach, Yosemite Valley, first week of December 2018.

Rather difficult to see due to reflections, but the river flows from foreground to far end of the screen and turns to right.

Late afternoon reflections in the Merced River in Yosemite Valley. Not quite like spring runoff, but still lots of water.

Valley View also known as the Gates of The Valley with its stunning views of Bridalveil fall, the Cathedral Rocks and the Merced River. I choose this spot due to the lack of clouds in the sky. I knew I wanted to emphasize the fall, the Cathedral rocks and the Merced River in my frame.

I can almost hear the tune, "The Moon River" as i glaze on this image. What song or tune do you hear the scene humming?

Yosemite Falls and North Dome, and their reflections on the Merced River, on the morning five days after the 15-20 cm (6-8 inches) snow, first week of December 2018. Mist still rising from the snow, but clearing off, at about three hours after local sunrise time. A view from beneath the Swinging Bridge, Yosemite Valley.

This was the maximum coverage possible with my camera (APS-C) and 17 mm lens.

This view of the Merced River Canyon gives a good sense of the Yosemite's rugged country. You can see Highway 120 on the left as it edges its way down the canyon, and Bridalveil Falls is in the distance.

Half Dome Yosemite during another dry winter - 2018

On a beautiful and bright day in Yosemite the reflections of trees and granite fell upon a placid Merced River at a tranquil spot behind the Ahwahnee Hotel.

"The grandeur of the scene was but softened by the haze that hung over the valley-light as gossamer -and by the clouds that partially dimmed the highest lifts and mountains. This obscurity of vision but increased the awe with which I beheld it, and as I looked, a peculiar exalted sensation seemed to fill my whole being, and I found my eyes in tears with emotion"

Words of Lafayette Houghton Bunnell, after he discovered the beauty of Yosemite Park in March 1851.

I always wanted to capture the beauty and grandeur of this magnificent place covered by a white blanket of snow. For two consecutive years I traveled in the wintertime trying to capture this scene and unfortunately was never able to find snow in the park. With the flurry of crazy weather over the holidays I thought "this is my chance!" I decided to venture yet again in hopes of this picture and welcomed in the New Year at the Park.

I thank God for allowing me to be there to admire and capture the beauty of this amazing place. The 31st was a long day of travel flying from Miami, and then driving multiple hours to Yosemite, but I think this enchanted corner made the sacrifice worth it. I hope this panorama can make justice of this wonderful place by the Merced River.

Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend ahead, and all the best for this 2016! Thanks for your friendship and support though the years.

One day trip to Merced NWR and Yosemite National Park!

A morning view of El Capitan with another winter storm approaching the Yosemite Valley.

The Three Brothers reflected in a calm Merced river at sunset.

Mist over the Merced River on a cold winter afternoon.

Hope you are enjoying a lovely weekend. We are enjoying a wonderful winter storm that is bringing much needed rain to the Bay Area and snow to the Sierra Nevada.

Yosemite Valley, Bridalveil Falls and the Merced River

El Capitan rises nearly 3600 feet above the floor of Yosemite Valley in Yosemite National Park. One of the largest exposed pieces of granite in the world, this behemoth attracts rock climbers from around the world. Everyone seeing Yosemite Valley for the first time is truly amazed at the enormous size of El Capitan as it dwarfs everything in its vicinity. But to be ready to gain a sense of scale, do not forget to bring your binoculars in order to spot the rock climbers. They appear as dots, tiny dots, moving along El Capitan's seemingly sheer surface.

This is one of our favorite views in all of Yosemite National Park. Looking across the Merced River and down Yosemite Valley. The river's water was low during this September visit. But the tall grasses on the near bank and low light on El Capitan made the visit worthwhile. I believe the rock spires on the right are the Cathedral Rocks.

I was near Taft Point in Yosemite National Park when I spotted these two gentlemen on rock ledges far above Yosemite Valley and its El Capitan Meadow below. In the hazy distance to the right of the meadow is El Capitan. The Devil's Elbow in the Merced River is also visible. The hike to Taft Point is a leisurely 2 mile roundtrip hike with spectacular views well worth the effort.

From my archives....

of the Merced river, I found Half Dome hiding behind these trees but there was this one spot where I could see Half Dome between two of the taller trees while having shorter trees act as the bottom of the picture frame.

Taking my dog out with me when I want to shoot a location is still kind of trial and error process. On this one, I took her out with me as I walked out to check the scene and see what compositions I could discover. I really thought she would be would be pretty calm and stick by me and while I don't let her off leash, she does have six feet of room and she wanted all of it. She fell in love with the deep powder we found around the river and just wanted to dance in it making it kind of difficult for me to work. So lesson learned, next time I go get my work done first, leave her in the car and when done, take her out so we can play together and not have a care in the world!

Half Dome and its reflection on the Merced River on the morning 5 days after the 15-20 cm (6-8 inches) snow, first week of December 2018. About four hours after local sunrise time, and the mist from snow just about to clear off.

The popular location for Half Dome reflection is near the Visitor Center Parking Lot. This place would be an alternative and is at very short walk from Laurel and Hemlock cottages of the Yosemite Valley Lodge. It is only a few minutes away from the Swinging Bridge, making it convenient to photograph reflections of Half Dome, North Dome and Yosemite Falls within a short period of time.

Happy New Year 2021 to my Flickr Friends❤️🍻🍺

A very poor photo. River otters swimming in the Merced River, Yosemite Valley. One with its head above water, 2-3 others beneath the turbulence of the river surface.

I did not know there are river otters in Yosemite, so I was very surprised and wondered what they were when I saw some animals swimming. That morning turned out to be “wildlife morning” – I was able to see a bald eagle and a bobcat, also.

I do not have 200-300mm lens, and this was the best from the distance
