Crimson-fronted Barbet "Megalaima rubricapilla" Seen amazingly from hotel balcony in Columbo Sri Lanka July 2009
Clicked from the rear balcony. I had come to investigate the racket being made by the Rufous Treepie when I found this fellow. Barbets are often seen foraging along with other bird species like the Treepie or Bulbuls or Sunbirds.
White-cheeked Barbets are arboreal birds that keep to fruiting trees. A strong flyer that eats mostly fruits, but is also found having nectar, or eating insects or small reptiles. Noisy birds especially in the summer. They have a rather big head in proportion to their body and use their powerful beak to tear into fruit.

學名: Megalaima oorti nuchalis
One of the Western-Ghats beauty, can be located across south asia. the bright crimson forehead and throat with green back and yellow color around the throat makes it remarkably noticeable. The name Copper-smith is due to their rhythmic calls sounding like hammer hitting metal.
The Coppersmith Barbet, Crimson-breasted Barbet or Coppersmith (Megalaima haemacephala), is a bird with crimson forehead and throat which is best known for its metronomic call that has been likened to a coppersmith striking metal with a hammer. It is a resident found in South Asia and parts of Southeast Asia. Like other barbets, they chisel out a hole inside a tree to build their nest. They are mainly fruit eating but will take sometimes insects, especially winged termites.

The blue-eared barbet (Psilopogon duvaucelii) is an Asian barbet. Barbets are a group of near passerine birds with a worldwide tropical distribution. They get their name from the bristles which fringe their heavy bills.
This small barbet is 17–18 cm (6.7–7.1 in) in length. It is a plump bird, with a short neck, large head and short tail. The bill is dark, and the body plumage is green, but the subspecies have different head patterns. The adult male of the form, M. d. cyanotis, which occurs from northeast India and Bangladesh to peninsular Thailand has a black forehead, blue midcrown, ear coverts and throat, red markings above and below the earcoverts, and orange cheeks. The female has a duller head pattern with a more orange tint to the patches above and below the ear coverts, and the juvenile has a green head with some blue on the ear coverts and throat.
The male’s territorial call is a repeated loud ko-tek. Other calls include a whistled pleow.

The Brown-headed Barbet or Large Green Barbet[2] (Megalaima zeylanica) is an Asian barbet. Barbets and toucans are a group of near passerine birds with a worldwide tropical distribution. The barbets get their name from the bristles which fringe their heavy bills.
The Brown-headed Barbet is a resident breeder in the Indian Subcontinent, widespread in India and also seen in Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. It is an arboreal species of gardens and wooded country which eats fruit and insects. Nonetheless, it is fairly tolerant of humans and is often seen in cities, in greenery. It nests in a tree hole, laying 2-4 eggs. The bird is largely frugivorous on mangos, ripe jack, papaya, banana, figs and similar cultivated fruit trees. Its habitat includes urban and country gardens though it tends to eschew heavy forest. It nests in a suitable hole in a tree that it will often excavate out, not unlike a woodpecker. A pair will take it in turns to incubate the eggs and they often communicate with each other using their Kura, kura calls.
This is a relatively large barbet at 27 cm. It is a plump bird, with a short neck, large head and short tail.
The adult has a streaked brown head, neck and breast, with a yellow eye patch. The rest of the plumage is green. The bill is thick and red. Sexes are similar.
The White-cheeked Barbet largely replaces this species in the Western Ghats and hilly parts of southern peninsular India although both species may occur in many places. The calls of this species is similar but the white cheek patch is distinctive.
The call is a repetitive kutroo…kutroo…kutroo. Others take up the call when one starts. Somewhat silent in the winter.
