Today I went to town to meet a friend for a coffee. The city was full of people like the weeks before, so that it feels like a never-ending shopping spree. I must admit that I hate that shit, but today I ventured into the lion's den. Normally the apropos store and its entrance is a no go area for me. I don't know what was going on, but suddenly I gathered all my courage and entered the store. In the foyer were some kids playing with their scooters. Have a look at the boy, he's a real artist, isn't he?

The only shot I did today was this picture in front of the bar gargarin. It might be slightly suspicious to sit in front of a bar at the beginning of the day, but Berlin is Berlin and so a bar is easily able to serve a serious breakfast in the morning. By the way, it I great not just to get the last chair but to have the choice at 10.30am if you like to sit in the sun or not. Berlin and especially the prenzlauer berg is full of great cafes and restaurants. I could, but I don't want to bash the good old city of cologne... So here we go, back in the Rheinland. Folks, I wish you a nice week.

A few days ago, I read a typical story from Cologne in the newspaper. Two years ago the city of Cologne removed a temporarily crosswalk. After that, some funny guys (the little people) came back in the night and repainted an illegal crosswalk at the same place. This illegal crosswalk was removed after about two years. So I went to that place today, took a picture and repainted it with Photoshop... Nice, isn't it?! Have a great weekend, folks!

This picture includes many things which are representing important activities in my life. You see bicycles, the packaging of my old Nikon and for sure some of my photographs. I bought the blue bike in the background around 1980, maybe one ore two years earlier. It is an old Rickert racing bike and I have so many memories about the time when I was a member of Blitz 09 Viersen, a local cycling club. I'm so happy that I could safe all this great purposes in my life to the Here and Now so that they are not just memories but presence! Have a nice evening folks!

Time to post a new church picture. I've never been to the St. Georg's church before. The church is being erected near the Severinsstreet and the collapsed public record office and opposite to the ugliest new Waidmarkt Quarter. By the way, the Waidmarkt Quarter is another tragedy of colognes city planning and an excellent example for partisanship called Klüngel. But back to the very nice church of St. Georg which dates back as far as to approximately the 10th century. In the atrium of the church you can see a sculpture of Christ on the Mount of Olives which is framed with many interesting intercession panels. I've never seen so many of these before and so I spend about 30 minutes to study the different inscriptions. There were many panels with "Thanks", but also lots of panels with very precise messages like "Thanks for a job" or "Thanks for father" or "Thanks for exam". I was touched by all this religiousness and the many personal things I read. So I did something I usually never do, I light up some candles for my family and friends... Folks, I wish you a nice sunday and all the best for the next week.

It was late again and so I thought it could be a good idea to have a short walk over the fair here in cologne to collect some easy shots of easy people and easy lights. Far from it! There were so many lights and so many people from the country or from the suburbs that it was hard to find a focus. It was like a carpet made of lights and people and everything was in move. So it took me a whole hour to find a lonely carousel and a place without people. I found this spot at the very end of the fuss. The people from the fuss are living here and there is a duck and a star...

Today my son was ill and so the day was full of short trips to the city to buy medicine, food or other stuff. I don't want to quarrel with that situation but it's clear that there is not so much me-time. I saw this strange building a couple of days ago and I planned to come back to see what it is all about. Today I stopped for a minute to take some shots. It belongs to an ensemble of abandoned buildings in the city of cologne. There are two tower-buildings just around the corner and the garages. It was a bit strange, because when I passed the fence I heard some voices talking and laughing straight behind a broken window... Guess there are sprayers or just teenagers who are searching for adventures, but I will be honest, I don't wanna know it exactly...

What a day! I had to decide between a man inside a central-heating boiler, an old man watching us from the edge of a house with some crutches, a man sleeping on top of a sofa which was standing beside the road and this women jumping over the peoples heads. See what I've choose... This here was at a sports festival for broad jump and pole vault which was taking place in the Rheinauhafen here in the neighborhood. I haven't watched this before in real life, only on television. It was really amazing to see them fly over the highest bar or 6-8 meters wide while the broad jump. To have so many chances to take streetshots was a great opportunity and an adequate ending for the nice weekend. Folks, have a good week altogether.

Don't have enough time today, but I found this little shop window in the city which is decorated with a kind of farewell installation. A sign at the bottom says that the company had to leave the rooms meanwhile because they become to small. Anyway, I like the installation and the waving cats... Instead of after work party I went to the church of St. Heribert which is located in Deutz. I didn't know that St. Heribert is one of the biggest churches in cologne. But I must admit that this evening it was the first time that I've visited the church. There was a great play of light inside because of the nice and sunny weather outside. I walked around and I was almost alone inside. A women was praying in a small room and two kids entered the church, putting the holy water with their fingers to the brow. I didn't expect that, but I dont know why... So here we go with picture number 155. By the way, I didn't expect the many positive response, but there is also some very critical voices... Anyway, I'm thankful for every response I get. Thanks folks for following my s**t on flickr.

Tonight we had our premiere at the University’s Studiobühne here in Cologne. Antony had his first role in "Alice in Wonderland" playing the Mad Hatter. It was a great project, which was initiated through the child university, accompanied by Nicholas Allen, an English stage director. How amazing to see all these kids playing on stage after three days with a daily rehearsal of three hours. I like to say thank you to the whole team of the Studiobühne. They did a really great job! After the show, Nicholas was very kind to Antony when he said that he is a great comedian and he had to smile a lot when he was playing... I thought that Antony would prefer the stage to the IT business!

Yesterday I had lunch with a friend, and we talked about the 365 project and my first experiences. Damn, it's really hard to go for it, but it's also a great opportunity to change the way I organize my days. Today I had a small walk to the old central market. The market hall is called "the belly of cologne" and it was designed and planned by the two architects, Otto Müller-Jena and Balduin Schilling in 1904. I really like that building and the atmosphere. In 2020, the market will move to another place in Cologne. I hope they will have a good Idea how to use the belly in the future!

Just like a house cat one-twentieth of her size would do, Talya--an Amur tiger that weighs more than 200 pounds--cleans herself. She was enjoying some "me time" on an elevated ledge in her enclosure where her rambunctious cubs could not reach her.
Amur tigers (also known as Siberian tigers) are some of the largest cats in the world. They are an endangered species with 500-600 remaining in the wild. Seen at the Toledo Zoo & Aquarium in Toledo, Ohio.
It's been a busy, social Christmas and New Year. I'm glad to have good friends and enjoyed their company but now they have all gone and we have nowhere to go to so I can have some 'me time'. A nice bath, a book and some Quality Street (before I go back to healthy eating next week).
