cologne - 05.10.2013

Today there was a olympus event about the new OM-D E-M1. I own the Sony RX1 which is a beast of a camera, but it's only 35mm wide angle. Especially for street photography I've never had a better camera than the Panasonic GF1, which is many years old, but much faster than the RX1. Now I'm thinking of buying a new and faster system camera for street. I don't wanna carry the big and heavy SLR's and my NEX6 is also to slow for me. It sucks that there is no camera which meets all my expectations. The RX1 has a stunning sensor and the greatest lens, but it's to slow in AF for my opinion. The NEX is faster, but you don't have many choices if you like to have a professional lens. So maybe I go for the new OM-D for a while... By the way, it took this shot with the new OM-D in jpg. Have a nice saturday evening folks.

cologne - 07.04.2013

I'm happy that you can see a reflection of me and my iPhone after my fulminant stunt today. After all I was able to take this shot... Everybody knows that cologne is out of money and we know that the city will soon earn a lot of many through the new gambling house trick... But for this moment we must accept that the streets are in a baghdadian condition. So my front wheel found it's new and exiting way through the deep furrow inside the brand new road cover from the 1950th and guides me straight into the parking car on the right. So I praise good that my bones are ok and there is just a car body damage and some small damages at my bicycle. So folks, keep on wearing your helmet and I wish you a nice and safe week.

cologne - 25.06.2013

This is on of these days where I don't have enough time to write a serious story. Nevertheless, I took this picture of some garages in the neighborhood. There are so many of these around and the most of them are covered in a courtly light grey. I like this one for it's dirty style and the housing block behind. I was thinking about the question if it is a nice idea to take one shot of every interior inside... Guess how many are used for other things than parking a car and what would be inside if it's no car? Folks, I wish you a nice evening.

oberhausen - 09.06.2013

Have you ever been inside a big air package? Today I went to the Gasometer in Oberhausen, to visit an Christo Exhibition. The big air package is about 90 meters high and a guess 20 metes wide. Can you imagine? The room is huge and the visual impression is breathtaking. The people inside were so astonished that anyone was taking photos from each other, while everybody was making strange sounds or just standing around with the head in the neck and the mouth wide open... So I would highly recommend the show, if you are from the area... Have a nice week folks.

cologne - 07.02.2013

Things are getting serious today. Carnival is the fifth season here in cologne. To get a friendly picture of the jecken, I put on a blonde wig and pink sunglasses, and ambled through the streets. Normally there is a bunch of crazy people singing, laughing and drinking around. That’s why it is extremely difficult to find a quiet moment. These two good guys were standing around, and I asked them to take this picture. For me they have a great distinguished and happy charisma. I must confess I'm not a carnival enthusiast, but I wish you some nice and crazy days if you are...

Everybody knows that Cologne is a poor city, when we are talking about money. The cost for the renovation of thousands of tiling, which have been fallen from the wall of the underground station Deutz, is about 400.000€. Of course, the city doesn't have so much money, so the Kölner Stadtanzeiger (newspaper) starts a competition to design the "holes" using the readers’ ideas. I remember a shot I did in 2010 from the London tube and put it into the hole just for two reasons. First, I can fix the construction site, second I give everybody the chance to compare Cologne and London undergrounds... Folks, please watch the falling tiles if you plan to visit Cologne!

boisheim - 10.11.2013

Today we visited my parents in the countryside. Don't know why but I don't like the picture here. It simply has nothing to do with the mood and the light this afternoon. Anyway, I was working my ass off to get a acceptable result, but I have to accept what I got here. Yesterday I met a friend of mine and he showed me some pictures which he made during a great cycling tour the summer through the Pyrenees. The pictures were converted to B&W and I said that I would see them in color to get a better feeling for the landscapes and the mountains. Today I think that this picture here would be easier in a B&W... Maybe next time.

cologne - 08.11.2013

Some of the lantern procession on St Martin's day were cancelled due to the heavy rains in the last days. Tonight I had good luck because on my way back home I saw St. Martin with a red cape riding on a little red big led the parade of lanterns through the park here in the neighborhood. The parents decorated the place with lanterns and candles and there was also a little fire in the middle. Of course they don't have a horse like we had in my childhood, but the cycling St. Martin was also very majestic. One mother was playing the violin while the others were singing the St. Martins songs. For me it was a real romantic and special moment in the middle of the dark. Folks, I wish you a nice weekend.

san francisco - 03.08.2013

This day was a bit tired. I waked up early because of the jet lag. I was hungry and so I walked to a italian coffee bar to have a coffee and scrambled eggs. After that I was strong enough to stray though chinatown where the little markets were selling their vegetables and all the other strange things. After a second breakfast with friends and antony I walked to the market street and on my way I saw the famous cable car here. For me it's the american picture of the day with the stars and stripes in the background... Folks, I wish you all the best.

cologne - 15.10.2013

The tickle in the throat yesterday were the beginning of todays cold. So I must bore you with the view from my window. What you see is a part of an historical electric power station in front of my flat. It's a great place and a landmark. They also use the place for opera and concerts and other cultural activities. Thanks folks for following my s**t on flickr.

cologne - 11.02.2013

Today it's Rosenmontag here in Cologne. One of the biggest events in town, which attracts many people year after year to watch the procession. Ok, if you go out you can get some candies and chocolate for free, or you can stay on your diet and watch the spectacle from your sofa like I did today... You might say that this is boring, but I did it for two reasons. First because of my tumble down the stairs and the resulting and painful foot, and second because on TV you can get a lot of very interesting information from the reporters about the carnival and its tradition. That’s why I really like the television broadcast from the WDR here in Cologne. I hope tomorrow I can walk a little bit better to get an interesting picture...

cologne - 20.03.2013

Today I feel like this balcony. I can't write so much because I need a bath and my sofa. What you see here is the view from the waiting room of my dentist in cologne. I remember when it was summer two years ago. The balcony was full of life because a southern extended family were living there. There were flowers and wine and cane chairs, a flag (maybe the spanish one you can see on the right) and the curtains were blowing in the wind... everything was like a happy and simple life. But then there came the real estate companies to "upvalue" the block. And here we go... Today it's just abandoned and sad. Thanks for following my s**t on flickr.

I was happy to meet this friendly policeman who is watching the written traffic rules. As you can see, he's a friendly guy who reminds you without making to much words. Unfortunately we have some "policeman" and "policewomen" in our household. I think that it really sucks when you have some schoolmasters in your private life who are always watching for the compliance of non written rules. Do you know this kind of guys, sitting behind a curtain watching through the window, always prepared to denounce someone else?

cologne - 29.07.2013

I know this kind of weather from Thailand. They have the monsoon in their climate and we also have it now. But I don't want so complain, because as long as we have this wonderful rainy moments during the day I don't have to water my plants on the balcony. By the way, is there anyone out there who likes to water my plants during my holidays in August? :-) Just a joke. Folks, thanks for following my s**t on flickr.

cologne - 03.06.2013

The day was exhausting and long, but on my way back home I met this guy from cyprus wo was playing all alone sitting under an archway in my neighborhood. He was playing the guitar and it reminds me of the soundtrack of "Paris Texas". I'm not a fan of ry cooder, but I really much like this side of his works. Anyway, I ask him from where he comes and he told me a little story about his guitar, from where he comes and how it feels like when he plays while he stares at the wall on the other side... For me it's always an highlight to get in touch witch strangers. So at the end of a long day I'm very much pleased how it ends. Thanks folks for following my shit on flickr.

cologne - 10.07.2013

This morning I was in hurry. I went to the pharmacy to get something against my hay fever. On the way back home I came across this parking ticket machine which makes me standing still for a couple of minutes. I was so happy to see what people are able to do. They try to make the worst things nicer. Of course the machine must square, practical, good, but why? Thats an example how people can involve themselves to make the world a little bit nicer, friendlier or just bring hurry people to stop for a moment. Thanks to the one who gave me the chance this morning to break for a while... Have a nice evening folks and thanks for following my s**t on flickr.

cologne - 13.05.2013

In the last days I've reflected my 365 for several reasons. First it is an awful lot of work, but also a great fun and a chance to have another look at the world around me. Secondly I got same hints that my comments are often a bit pessimistic. And I must say yes, thats trough. It seems that I put my attention to the things which are disquieting... But why did I do this or why does it happens? Anyway, this here is a digger which stands in the middle of my old tailors shop. On the right in the dark hole there was the shoemaker, both turkish people. The place is going to be one of the new apartment buildings at the bonnerstr in my neighborhood. They are talking about luxury apartments... So this is an important contribution to the so called gentrification... Thanks folks for following my s**t on flickr.

This is my "MeTime" mug...I use it when I am feeling really 100% "zen-good". It was made in an artists' coop in Nepal...I found it at the Ten Thousand Village boutique not far from where I live. Artisans whose merchandise is sold in this boutique are paid fair trade wages...I really think that is so cool. This mug has really great karma!

In reality it is actually more pale pale stone gray in color...but somehow tonight my silver blue Daniel Smith iridescent paint kept jumping on my brush. Go figure! :)

detmold - 13.09.2013

Today I went to the Campus of the University of Applied Sciences in Detmold. I heard about a project called "The Diogenes Project" on the radio. Sven Stemmer is in the middle of this very interesting self experiment. He wants to figure out if we need all this stuff of the consumer world around us. He follows a number of great examples in history like Diogenes or Thoreau. Of course he's not the inventor of a simple life, but he's going to force a debate about consuming and society. For me, that's a great idea and to to this experiment at the universities campus is just brilliant. When I arrived he wasn't there, so I took some pictures of the place. I wonder who smashes the window. Have a look at the left side… When he arrives he was angry and astonished who did this shit. So I wish him all the best for the rest of his experiment and I will follow his Facebook side… Thanks folks for following my stream on flickr.

cologne - 09.07.2013

People are different. This evening I saw this lady in red and she was really eye-catching. The people behind her were whispering "Oh my God" or "Jesus". I was just taking a shot. I could bet that the sensor couldn't catch this kind of shining red, but what I see here is very authentic. Anyway, in the last weeks I don't have enough time for the project. I feel that I get more on the spur of the moment, but with a deduction in the quality of my shots. I hope I will find more time in San Francisco net month! We'll see... Thanks for following my s**t on flickr.

I also have a flinkster account, but since a couple of days I additionally own a key to the drive-now car sharing system. Two years ago I've sold my car and till then I don't have any personal car. To use flinkster or now in addition drive-now is very useful. Both systems, flinkster and drive-now, are following a slightly different philosophy. While flinkster is charging little for the time and more for the driven km, drive-now charges every minute you use the car and nothing for the driven km. Both systems have their advantages. I'm sure that the percentage of shared cars will dramatically increase in the next years, also in the car-country Germany. Folks, I wish you a nice weekend and thanks for following my s**t on flickr.

cologne - 17.10.2013

Today I had a short walk through the neighborhood. After two days of being inside it was a bit strange to walk through the autumn weather and the strong but warm wind outside. I like it to roam around the town and to observe the streets for a good motif. I think the project becomes a kind of inventory of the places I've been since the last 290 days.

senheim - 16.07.2013

F**k, I'm drunken! We had a great barbecue today which goes from 2pm to 10pm in the late evening. Of course we tasted some very different moselle wines and two doornkaat at the end of the day... So I'm not able to write more than necessary... I wish you a good night and all the best for the rest of the week... Thanks for following my s**t on flickr.

cologne - 26.07.2013

Cycling through the city is always useful if you like to have a nice picture. Today I came along this wonderful garage. I like the trend to get rid of the car and get a bicycle or a nice horse... by the way, which kind of horse is it? I wish you a great weekend and thanks for following my s**t on flickr.

viersen - 15.09.2013

Today I visited my parents at the countryside. On the way back home I saw this very special glass house in the town of Viersen. I really much like nightshots and the atmosphere in the dark. I did this shot earlier, but it was bright and I decided to come back at the way back home in the dark. I very much like the cool elegance and the silence inside this habitat of heads. Folks I wish you all the best for the upcoming week.

cologne - 29.09.2013

In the 90.th I regularly went to the Cinema sometimes once a week. These days I go twice a year. The 2pm screening was full of young people eating popcorn, nachos and drinking coke. On the other hand it's always great to go to the cinema with Antony. One of his "heroes" is mr. Schwarzenegger, but he also likes the whole bunch of actual action heroes. I guess it's something very usual in this time of the youth of a boy. It's all about strength and having the power to change and control the world around full of changes and challenges.

cologne - 01.10.2013

Today there are three month remaining till the end of the 365 project. Fortunately our small city of cologne is full of strange motifs as the two girls proofs. They were walking in very slow motion through the Severins gate, so that I can get into position also in slow motion, to get the picture shown here... First I was thinking of bashing myself to their feeds to see what happens or if they would walk over me, but then I was not brave enough to do so... To complete the scene you must know that to the left there was a amateur photographer standing with a huge but cheap zoom lens. He was totally blandly from the toes to the top of his skull so that I first thought that he must be a bloody observer like me. Maybe I totally misunderstood the whole scene... Thanks folks for following my s**t on flickr, facebook or tumblr.

cologne - 28.01.2013

Someone gave me a clue where to find this interesting bike-moss-biotope near the canteen of the University of Cologne. I didn’t have the exact location, so I went to the canteen to see if I could find the "artwork." The university is such a different place when you get used to the ordinary working world. So, this bike is a good example of how to be creative without a profit concept. I wish I had more entrepreneurial freedom to play around and build such an interesting thing. I was really surprised that I had to queue in front of the bike to take the picture. Some people were interested in the details like the birdhouse, Insect hotel or moss-packing as well... My congratulations to the one who had the idea!

cologne - 07.10.2013

Before my meeting with the bank counselor today I went to confession to received the anointing of the holly custody account. The church of St. Andreas is just around the corner of the bank, so that everyone can appease his conscience if necessary. Anyway, joking aside, for me it's always comforting to spent a few minutes inside a quiet church. In this spirit, I wish you a good night.

cologne - 21.09.2013

Today there was "Dä längste Desch vun Kölle" here in the Cologne. Many shops and other tradespeople offers their goods near the street. I must admit that I don't like all this food stands and clothes dealer, but this friendly guy and his wife had a great collection of so called "Narrenkappen" or duncecaps for sale. I ran down a mile to find something worth to be captured, but there was nothing except this guy here. So I ask him if I can take a photo and he agreed. His wife has the shop with the name "narrenkappen deluxe". If you ever need a great and original cologne duncecap, you should contact them via their website... Folks, I wish you a great weekend and thanks for following my stream on flickr, facebook or tumblr.

cologne - 02.12.2013

Let me put it like this: the time before christmas in fact does bother me quite a bit. It's not only that you stumble over your own feed after enjoying two cups of the holly christmas punch, you also stumble over the many christmas trees around the city. I really try to do my best in finding the ones which are not meant that seriously at all. And so I've found this pretty example of a tree in the middle of the so called "Eierplätzchen". Random fact: The "Eierplätzchen" in fact doesn't exist. The Name of the site was given by the people around and I don't know the reason why they choose this name. You must know that "Eierplätzchen" can be translated as "egg-place" or if you want "Egg-biscuit". Both names are a bit strange as the tree here in the picture. Have you seen the crown? The sign says "Schmuck" or in english "Jewelry". So here we go with the next and of course not the last christmas motif of this years X-Mas season.

cologne - 13.10.2013

Today was the cologne marathon, so I had the chance to take some pictures. This here was around km 33 which is about 20 miles away from the start. The funny guys here were running in a big group of uniformed runners. Despite they were running at the end of the whole field, I think they have a very good humor. I also admiring the old runners above the age of 60. I can't imagine how they can survive the torture. Have you ever finished a marathon in your life? Thanks folks for following my s**t on flickr.

cologne - 01.06.2013

I missed part one and two, but today I went to the Residence Cinema with my son to watch part three. Folks, that was fuckin crazy! We had so much to lough during the whole movie. I wouldn't go so far to recommend it because it really has a special kind of humor. But I've heard that the jokes are better and not as flat as they've been in the last two partes. Anyway. It was a great time again in the Residence, the only cinema where you really feel like being at home. And so I had a great and joyful day. Have a nice sunday folks.

liege - 13.01.2013

To visit Belgium is always an adventure. You don’t have to be Marty McFly or drive a DeLorean to time travel to the past. In a certain sense time is standing still in Belgium. Nevertheless, Liege has some great places, streets and building. Today it was bitterly cold and my pickings were very poor. To take the picture of this carrousel, I stopped near the road in the middle of nowhere. Bonne nuit, tristesse.

cologne - 26.10.2013

Today we celebrate Antony's eleventh Birthday. There was so much to do, from the beginning of the day (as you can see in the picture) to the end of the day at 1:30am in the night. I can remember that my childhoods birthdays were always like little Garden Parties. All my friends came by to play with me and to eat cake. Today in the modern world of patchwork families you have to celebrate twice. The third time you celebrate outside the school holiday because all your friends are flying round the world during the holidays with one of the many low-cost airlines. So my perception is that everything is getting more and more complicated also at the eleventh birthday... Thanks folks for following my stream on flickr, tumblr or Facebook.
