Can you imagine why this box smells like a cigarette? Today I made an important step toward my upcoming short trip to the Cote d”Azur. I want to carry my bike with me on the plane, and I’ve never done this before. It seems to be easy because you just need a box to put the bike in and voila. But that’s exactly where the trouble begins. Which size do you need? Where do you get one? How can you transport the box to the airport? But today I rented a car, made some telephone calls and, at the end of the day, I am the proud owner of this pretty box! But I didn't answer the question, why the box smells like a cigarette. A friend of mine gave me a hint that a bike dealer in town should have some of these boxes in stock. I went there and, just after entering the store, I felt like I was in a dodgy German bar. I mean, Germany is the last place on earth where you can drive as fast as you want or smoke as much as you can (wherever you want)... and I tell you, the air inside the shop was like in a funky nightclub. On the right side there was the boss’s wife sitting at a table, smoking, reading and looking through her glasses. The table was covered in advertising folders, books and other papers. This was such a great picture, which I didn't make. Just try to imagine...

I met this guy in the streets before (please watch: in the streets) . It was November 2011 and I also took a picture while he was singing a great spanish song and playing the acoustic guitar. Today I ask him if he has time for a coffee and we started up a conversation about his life in Andalusia. His family is living there while his life goes on far away here in Germany. He confirms that it's damn hard to earn money in spain since the financial crisis. So he's playing and singing here in cologne for some years. You can't imagine the wonderful voice of this guy. I'm always fascinated to speak to the street musicians, because they are friendly and sometimes with a very interesting character. Thanks folks for following my s**t on flickr, facebook or tumblr.

Today Cologne is upside down! There were so many great events all around the City today, like the BMX Worlds Cologne where different BMX Styles get's into a great competition. In this tent we could see so many stunning artists, I was really speechless. They are one with their bikes, I don't have any other explanation... So I went back home on my bicycle, dreaming of a childhood with such a cool bike... Folks, have a nice evening and weekend.

I find out that my 365 project becomes more and more international. I have "The one M" and now also Peter from London. A few days ago I took a picture of the guitar player from Cyprus as you can see. But before I reached this table to have an original weiss beer, I had to do some actions. First we went to the flinkster station around the corner, then we drove back home to get some paper and tesafilm to wrap the birthday present which we haven't had at this moment. Therefore we went to a big cinema to get a admission ticket which has to be wrapped. Then we were 30 minutes late when we arrived at the open air pool. Now I went to the cycling shop to collect my old parts of the blue bike and a brand new seat post (which doesn't fit by the way). The car full of 70th junk I drove to a iPhone repair shop to have a 30 minutes break at a miserable bakery with some tables outside to have a bee sting cake (which was disgusting) and a cup of coffee. Then I did some more banal things which maybe would bore you to death if I would write them down here. Anyway, after all this hassle I had a nice weiss beer in the sun with my nicer friends. That was a great moment which is worth to be posted here. I wish you a great sunday folks.

...put the damn car away... :-) Anyhow, the guy looks nice, but for my opinion he really couldn't play. So it is like it is, with or without a car. Apropos car, I forgot my driving license in Germany. If you ever try to rent a car in the US without a valid license you will learn that there is no chance to get a car. So the license will be sent to me in a few days and then I will see if I can get a car then... shit! Folks, thanks for following my s**t on flickr.

No it's not Cologne! :-) I just thought about the question how to combine the 365 project and my ordinary photo stream. But it's easier than I first thought. I will use them as a part of the 365 project! :-) And yes indeed, when I select a picture and I work on it, I have exactly what I want, me-time. So what I show you here is another picture from Sicily. It's the city of Trapani in the north-west of the Island. If you ever visit Sicily, I highly recommend a journey to Trapani. It's a nice old town with a harbor and a lot of cafes and nice restaurants that makes it really unique.
one week of the year i book time off for me time.....i know this sounds selfish considering all the responsibilities that probably should come first but i truly need this!
this is the time to catch up on my "someday when i have time list"...such as hang pictures that are framed and sitting in front of the wall they belong on and clean off my home office desk and spend the time in my gardens that they deserve...
but the best, and the most guilty pleasure that i look the most forward to is the day that is devoted to a book....usually this is done with cups of coffee on the deck but today i lounged and lounged and lounged!!! ahhhh.....

Today I brought my very old racing bicycle to the shop for a repair. I bought the original Rickert in the 80th and since then it was standing in the basement of my parents house. Rickert is a brand from a german bicycle manufacturer and a ideal basis for to build one of the ultramodern single speed bikes. But I give a damn and so I will rebuild it very close to the original style and of course as a racing bike. I'm looking forward to drive the new old bike one sunny day and I'm exited how the feeling would be... So many stories about this time and the journeys with my cosine from Australia... Folks, I wish you a nice weekend. C++

On my way back home I passed the tubes in the Rheinauhafen. They are like a miracle, because if you photograph them at night they look always fresh clean and polished. On the other hand the whole area of the rheinauhafen looks like it is completely untouched. At night you need a dog or courage to pass the abandoned places and buildings. You never see the rich people who live behind the curtains or high up in the well-fortified buildings. I guess a little disadvantage are the tanker ships which are huge and under anchor just in front of the luxury appartements. Today it smells like a chemical plant just because of the tanker with the wonderful name "Barcelona" which you can see on the right... Altogether I think for me it's the better place to take a night shot than a place to life... Good night folks.
westerham - 18.11.2013
After almost one year I came back to Westerham, the place I got the coaching education in the past. The first day was a bit exhausting because I had to get up very early in the morning to catch the flight to Munich. After all it took more than 5 hours to get from cologne to Westerham, which is a small town near the german Alps. So here we go. After a day full of interesting speeches and workshops I sit in the middle of my litte chamber in which I took this picture a few minutes ago. I really much like this kind of boring hotel rooms because they are forcing the detaching mindfulness which is helpful for getting into another perspective of the so called "reality"... Anyway, I have to go for dinner and after that I will fall down into this funny little bed... Ciao my friends and thanks for your faves and comments.
gremberghoven - 28.03.2013
To get this shot I had to visit a forbidden place. First I drove into a private road until I was stopped at a gate. I bypassed the gate by foot until I was standing in front of another gate. I couldn't overwhelm this one, so I climbed up a track elevation, straight through another thorny bush and crossed the rails... I was a bit exhausted and it was bitterly cold outside, when I found this arrangement. The place is really special because it belongs to a couple of tunnels which are under a huge railroad shunting yard. Of course there was no one else than me, but I could hear the sound of the announcements or commands which were made via loudspeaker. It was pretty surreal out there! Almost even more important is the fact that after this excursion I drove along the way and ended up in an extraordinary settlement called the "Eisenbahnsiedlung Gremberghoven". I've never been there but folks, that was a really astonishing architecture and mood. The Settlement from the 1920t is according to the railroad shunting yard I visited, but it was completely random that I found that place. I will went there in the future to take some pictures. Folks I wish you a Happy Easter.

Todays picture should have been the girl with the scarf, the fur cap and the red dress. She was driving her roller skates around a small place in the rheinauhafen like a world champion, while she was singing something that I can't understand. I watched her for a while and later we talked to each other about luna (the moon) and that she is a lightworker. Have you ever heard about lightworkers? It seems that it has something to do with alternative healing, but maybe I got something wrong. Nevertheless, she had a very positive charisma and it was great to see her skating and singing while the full moon was shining from above. After the encounter I walked along the river rhine and at the end of my little journey I came to the bridge in the picture. Strange evening and ordinary shot.

Today I had a great cycling with a friend of mine. He showed me another nice track around cologne just through the fields and the woods. After that nice torture, some mails and phone calls I go out to eat something. The weather is nice and not to warm these days which is great for me. After a argentinian steak with a potato and to beer I was a little bit groggy. I stumbled around till I found this nice composition at a small street around the corner. What you see here is the german way to present a recording studio. I'm not sure about the mirrored door and the two plants, the rest is great of course. Folks, I wish you a nice weekend and everything.

Sometimes after work I rest a few minutes on the sofa in my office. Usually I'm alone at this time of the day so that I can think about the good and the bad things that happened. That's why I really love this place, and, in addition, it's very comfortable. What you can't see in the picture is a mobile, which is hanging from the ceiling. I must admit that in the past sometimes I’d lay down my head on the carpet to relax, and watch the mobile floating over me. Some of these moments I will never forget . . . .

Today I went to the city to take some shots with my brand new NEX6 with the Summilux 35. Folks, I had so much luck! The streets were full of buskers, a children's choir and the great dancer here. It was hard to decide which of the pictures should take place in the 365 today, because I had some very interesting chats with the musicians around. I met a singer from Russia, a keyboard pianist from Syria, a accordion player from Rumania and a russian guitar player. I talked to everyone but not to this girl. She had her own camera team and a macbook air with some speaker. The wind was so hard that the airbook was blowing from a wall, but after she fixed all this, she dances like hell. I guess she was working on a promotion video for her website or facebook. If you ever plan to dance like a devil, you should really think about contacting her. Altogether a great performance!

This is the last day for a serious christmas picture. So I went to the church of St.Severin with my A7r to get this shot. This figure of christ is levitating high above the main altar of the church. To get such a clear picture at ISO 200 in the darkness I used my little nitecore torch in my left hand while I was shooting with my right. A torch is a great alternative to a flash light also because it's small and handy. I like the deep space behind and the natural vignetting of the torch. Another fife pictures till the end of the project from today on and I'm exited what 2014 may bring. I definitely will try something else than a 365, but I don't have any idea for the moment.

Tomorrow we have a very new event here at the company. We try to arrange a "World Cafe". Do you have experiances with a World Cafe? Anyway. To be the last one who leaves the company in the evening isn't always silly. Sometimes I find something very special or different or just something I haven't seen in the past. This evening I found this arrangement at the first floor. I very much like the light and the contrast between the foreground and the background... We'll see what happens tomorrow. Thanks folks for following my s**t on flickr.

Now it's proofed, the autumn is back again. Can you see the leaves in front of the kiosk of "Who the Fred is fuck"? It was raining all the day, the people are wearing their winter coats, gloves and everybody is carrying an umbrella through the windy and rainy weather. So why shouldn't the trees cast away their leaves?! So here we go. Everything is upside down in this world, as the advertising we see in the picture... What's about your weather out there? In the USA, in ASIA and around the world? Do you have the feeling that something dramatically changed in the last years? I will lay down at my sofa, put the blanked tight and switch the heating on... Have a nice Sunday evening folks.
When you wake up with a joyful heart in the morning, you show your creator how thankful you are for the gift of life. 💚
Morning people 🌹

After yesterdays X-mas event with the company I'm not able to do more than to post this little impression straight out of a friends staircase. I always feel a little bit confused when I see such a decoration and I try to imagine what kind of decoration can be found inside the apartment. Anyway, it's definitely not my style. I wish you a nice evening and all the best for the upcoming christmas time...

Today I read about metal thieves in Cologne. They stole some bronze sculptures in the last weeks from a park nearby. It seems that they sold the booty to a local dealer for about 50€ per kilo. Anyhow, the police arrested some suspects, and they found a connection to a scrapyard just around the corner from my office... By the way, last year metal thieves stole the cross from my Grandma’s graveyard, what shows me that they hold nothing sacred. Someone should really kick them in their bad asses! I was just curious to see the scrapyard, so I went there after work. But there was nothing to see, except muddy water, metal and darkness. So I walked around and suddenly I was standing in front of this garage composition... I like it! By the way, in the background you can see the scrapyard I'm talking about...

The Nomea is not just the nearest italian restaurant with Sardinian kitchen, it's also the best one I know in town. I can say this for several reasons. First the food is delicious, second the owner is as friendly as professional and third it's just a nice place with a cozy interior. I mean it has nothing of the cool and chichi places, but it's decorated with heard and soul. So I just love that place and therefore I took this picture today. It just belongs to my 365 and today it's the day... Thanks folks for following my s**t on flickr, Facebook or tumblr and if you're living around cologne it's hardly recommended to visit the nomea one time.

He's blond, I'm dark. He's wild, I'm not. But no doubt he's my son. To have time together is always great, sometimes exhausting and never boring. After I'd persuaded him to dance with me (while R. Kelly's "I Believe I Can Fly" was playing), we took a rest on the sofa to talk about his career as a piano player... :-) What else could I want?!

At the end of the day I passed the library of the university of cologne. I like the building because it has something mysterious while on the other hand there are very transparent and open spaces. Even at midnight there is light and you can see the students doing their studies. Isn't it great, this german studiousness?! :-) Maybe I should try to be a senior student? Ok, I think I have to wait a couple of years till I get my retirement pension, but I like the Idea. Have you ever thought about studying again? I would try something totally unprofitable... :-)

This is the season for Nightshots like the one I did yesterday. But also today a got this atmospheric shot of a former entrance to a factory which is also in Kalk. It takes a time to get used to the different circumstances in dezember. By the way, today it is winter solstice the longest night of the year. From tomorrow on the days will be longer again... So I hope I will get some nice captures to finish my project in the next ten days. Have a nice saturday evening and thanks for following my s**t on flickr, Facebook or tumblr.

Do you know about night consumption? While in the US it is very usual to have a 24/7 service in every supermarket, in Germany it is still an exception to go for shopping after 8pm. Ok, some of the big supermarkets are open till midnight, but all the small stores in the city are closed after 8pm. So what you see here is the world famous "night consumption" or Nacht Konsum which is open till midnight! In principle it is a flea market with an accompaniment program. Isn't it considerable that you have to pay for the entry? And then you enter the market and you have to pay again for everything. And you will find a coffee bar, a creperie and different small food stands outside. So what they do is to get money from the people who are coming to spent the rest of their money insinde the market. It's a bit like getting money from the people who are entering a department store... Strange business concept, isn't it?!

This ice bear was watching me changing my pullover in a changing cubicle today. The pullover was really nice but unfortunately not suitable for my strange body.... So this was again a very tired day. I miss the sun and the exercises with my bicycle! But when I saw the cheap bear in this small changing room I must lough and of course I had to take a picture... He seems to be well prepared for the weather, but also a little bit depressed, like everybody these days. The mood of the picture makes me feel like I'm in a fridge... I wish you a nice weekend folks!

Toady I made a cycling tour to the Eifel, a large and quiet piece of nature in the south west of cologne. Nobody would be surprised about trees, and a lot of green. And yes, it's all about green in the Eifel. But there are also a few people around and children as you can see... I like the picture because of it's dynamic and the very different balls, dots and the colors... Folks, I wish you a very nice sunday.

You wont find any other picture of colognes old town in my stream. Why? Because it's a mess. A mess of restaurants, bars, breweries, fast food restaurants and clubs. When you ever tag me, I will confess that I hate this kind of potpourri. But never say never. And today there was an exhausting instance to spend a couple of hours in the eye of the storm. And on my way back home through drunken people and the smell of french fries and cigarettes I fond this antique shop. You can understand it as an representation of the diversity of experiences, feelings and vexations which took place in my mind... Thanks folks for following my s**t on flickr.

This is not a pitch in the jungle of costa rica, it's near the friedenspark in my neighborhood. The pitch is like a basin which is sometimes flooded by the rain. It's near my way back home from work and today I made this little detour to take the shot. Don't you think that the trees are looking like a jungle especially because of the wooden goal and the big puddle in front? Anyway, I'm waiting for the sun and the warmer days... I wish you a nice evening folks.

There is a demise of coworking spaces in cologne this time. The betahaus closed its doors this weeks and the "Büro für Brauchbarkeit" as well. As far as I know the "Büro für Brauchbarkeit" was a kind of coworking space but with its own offerings like the design of interactive machines, web-, graphic-, and interface design... Don't know why they had to quit, but for me there could be more of this special ideas and individuals in cologne. I guess Berlin is the better place for this moment if you try something really new, but Berlin is of course full of fresh and interesting startups and small shops and companies and therefore I guess it's harder to be new and different. By the way, do you have any examples for crazy new bizz in your neighborhood? Have a nice evening folks!

To buy a NEX6 is one thing, to get the right lenses is another matter. Today I went to Foto Gregor in Cologne to check two different lenses. I try to make a fast compare between the Zeiss Toit 12/2.8 and the Sony wide angle zoom SEL-1018 4.0. What you see here is a picture from the Sony lens which was adjusted to the maximum of 10mm which is 15mm on a 35mm camera. You can adjust the zoom between 10 and 18mm, which is 15 - 27mm on a 35mm Camera. The Zeiss Touit is fixed to 12mm or 18mm on a 35mm Camera. I can say that the Zeiss lens is a bit sharper and has more contrast right out of the RAW file, but on the other hand, the Zeiss has a poor AF, while the Sony lens is very fast. The Zeiss is loud, the Sony not. And the Zeiss is bigger than the Sony. So what should I do? Did I need this rest of sharpness? I guess I will go for the Sony which costs 790€ instead of 1050€ for the Zeiss. After a couple of days I come to the conclusion that the E-Mount lens zoo is a bit poor at this moment. The Leica lenses are great as I expected, but they don't have an AF. So I will think about it tomorrow and maybe I will choose on monday... Folks, I wish you a nice evening and thanks for following my s**t on flickr.

The new Residenz Astor Film cinema in Cologne is really great! Before each reclining seat is a footstool, and you get snacks and drinks served at your seat. There were times when I was at the movies every weekend. Maybe I'll go again frequently, because that is really relaxing, and of course a bit decadent …

Eleven days ago I met this old man for the first time. He earns money by collecting empty bottles. I think he's driving that little path every morning around 9:45. This morning I saw him again in front of a little bride and he was pushing his bike with the bags full of bottles up that "hill". It took about three or four minutes for him to come to the top while I was waiting. I wanted to repeat my fuzzy shot from the past. Downhill he was very fast to get the maximum speed so he could let it roll. Fifty meters later he was again at his extremely low speed. You can't imagine how slow a man can drive with so many bags! Anyway, I was behind him and took three or four shots, this time with the AF of the RX1. Folks, I wish you a nice weekend.

Because of Antony's sore throat we had some more time to spend together since yesterday. Today we had a little walk in this great weather of cologne to get some fresh air. On our way we found this little trailer home from the Netherlands. I was thinking of the Diogenes project from which I shoot a picture a couple of days before. This trailer was even smaller than the one I saw in Detmold. Anyway, I also felt something like wanderlust when I took the picture here. We'll see what 2014 will bring...

"Flow" is the name of the construction project near to the rhine here in cologne. What you see here in the picture is the old building of the BDI (Federation of German Industries) which will be revitalized to modern apartements in the near future. Anyway, they will not completely demolish the old building what surprises me a bit. The building will get a new facade and some stylish balconies in front. But I'm sure they will not surprise me with the costs of the apartements and town houses. It will be another place for the rich people in town. I'm sure they will satisfy every dream if you have the money. These time it could be a full time job just to document the many real estate projects in town, so maybe I will do some more of them in the future...
