"Mt Evans has more Marmots per mile that any other known mountain in Colorado. Marmots spend most of their day sleeping in their dens. A marmot is a rodent that physically resembles a beaver, except for the tail. It hibernates in the winter and thus emerges in the spring a much thinner animal. Between spring and fall, it will gain between 10 and 15 pounds, mostly by eating grasses early in the morning and late evening." -http://www.mountevans.com/

Scenario: The Whooping Cranes that were already in the bay were not at all happy to have new ones join them & what appeared to be a large male (Actually I have no idea if it was male or female... ;-) proceeded to make it's stance known by chasing the new arrivals and making them move on down the beach.
It's just incredible to watch all this interaction...So amazing & so beautiful.
