Out driving on Monday, looking for landscapes to shoot in Rhode Island. I realize that just looking at a map is not a real good way to do this. You have to know where to look. i don't. I need someone to tell me where the good spots to shoot are. Anyway, I was flailing away in my car on Monday when I happened to drive by Barberville Dam. I have never heard of Barberville before. Well, it's in my GPS now!
Lewis and Pedro - Roomies
Lewis and Pedro were roommates in 1977. I shot this photo in their dorm room. I remember really liking the soccer poster they had on their wall because of its 3D effect. Pedro is a big deal professor on the west coast I believe. I don't know where Lewis is.
As Cleveland attempts to pull itself out of the economic malaise, there are some casualties in the inner city. I remember thinking what a great art deco sign this was when this sports bar was open. It was a different feel for this part of the city. Alas, Jack's is no more. At least I got to shoot the sign before they take that away. I wonder if they will auction it off. It's a great sign.
The Maid of the Mist shot from the observation tower at Niagra Falls. It was my son's first visit to the Falls. Let's just say he was underwhelmed.
I am going to try something new with my Flickr account. For every color photograph I take will process the same photograph in black and white to see what happens. Who knows how long this will last but I will give it a shot. I call this the Black and White Project.

For a small State, Rhode Island has an incredible number of farms and barns. This one is in Smithfield, Rhode Island and this wasn't the only one that had seen better days. There are a lot of working farms in this state.

I went to Beavertail tonight to see if I could find a different perspective from which to shoot the lighthouse. As I was driving in I realized that I always go past the lighthouse to the other side to shoot. It was staring me in the face the whole time. I have never shot the lighthouse from the drive up. That's what I did tonight. It was fun trying to find a new perspective on this old venue

In a very short distance from Providence you find yourself in Smithfield, Rhode Island. It is amazing how quickly you are in the country. This is one of the farms you will see in Smithfield.
On Monday I got into my car and "Just drive" she said. So I drove around. I ended up in Hopkinton, RI.
Jim Thome hit 612 home runs in a 22 year major league career. Most of those home runs he hit with the Cleveland Indians and thus, he makes it onto my photostream. Jordan and I saw him hit this one in Fenway Park.

When I was a kid my parents had an interior decorator come in and decorate the house. One of the pieces he added to my parent's living room was this abstract painting of an African piece of art. I remember always looking at this thing and wondering how one person could put all those lines together to make up a face. When I was home last I found myself looking at that painting again. To me it is timeless.
The Shadow Collection is a collection of photos taken at Nobska Lighthouse in Falmouth during sunset. While shooting there one day I noticed the young lady in the white pants casting an interesting shadow. Over the next couple of hours I photographed other people walking around the Lighthouse.

After breaking my back to shovel out my yard I went for a walk in the neighborhood. People were out walking their dogs and playing in the snow like my neighbor here.
The Thinker is one of the most iconic sculptures in the world. The original is in the collection of the Rodin Museum in Paris. Twenty-one casts were made from Rodin's original sculpture. The museum acquired its cast in 1917, but it has had a troubled history. The statue was partially destroyed in a bombing in 1970. The statue was reportedly left unrestored due to Rodin's close involvement in the original casting of the bronze. Since the bombing, the museum says the damaged statue has become "considered by many to be an apt commentary on the juxtaposition between the classical and the chaotic." It just so happens that today is the 44th anniversary of the statue being damaged by a bomb.
