This is a wearable mask cast in urethane. It is from an original sculpture and fits most faces. Breathing is through holes between the tentacles.
Every February, Venice becomes a living theater as residents and tourists alike take to the canals and streets in fabulous costumes for one of the major events of the year. The tradition of wearing a mask to hide your identity and allow you to misbehave with impunity is ancient, but only in Venice is the tradition kept so alive today.

Per questo motivo, il saluto che risuonava di continuo nell’atto di incrociare unnuovo "personaggio" era semplicemente Buongiorno signora maschera.La partecipazione gioiosa e in incognito a questo rito di travestimento collettivo era, ed è tuttora, l’essenza stessa del Carnevale. Un periodo spensierato di liberazione dalle proprie abitudini quotidiane e da tutti i pregiudizi e maldicenze, anche nei propri confronti. Si faceva tutti parte di un grande palcoscenico mascherato, in cui attori e spettatori si fondevano in un unico ed immenso corteo di figure e colori.Con l’usanza sempre più diffusa dei travestimenti per il Carnevale, a Venezia nacque dal nulla e si sviluppò gradualmente un vero e proprio commercio di maschere e costumi. A partire dal 1271, vi sono notizie di produzione di maschere, scuole e tecniche per la loro realizzazione.

This is a leather mask that has been hand crafted and shaped out of one piece of leather. I used metallic acrylic paint and freehanded the swirl design. The base color is green and the swirls are bronze, purple, and black, with bronze and purple dot accents. The button off to the side matches perfectly with the mask with it's crystals dark metal. There are green and purple tall, skinny feathers peaking out from behind the button. There are also 16 iridescent Swarovski crystals that change from purple to gold depending on how you look at them.
This is a really beautiful mask and one of my favorites so far.

Nice, quality, smooth leather painted with acrylic and it's ready to go! This mask is made from one piece of 7 oz vegetable tanned leather. There is an elastic chord that is easy to tie off for quick adjustments. One size fits adults.

Monday: march 8. Sitting in an isolated room with a mask on for the past 45 mins waiting to be checked in. I just wanted a rapid strep test but because I have flu symptoms I can't enter the clinic. Instead I get to sit in this cute little room with a cute little mask on. Oh h1n1 how you like to tease. For the record, it was required that I get a flu shot and h1n1 vaccination (don't get me started) at the beginning of this season. Let's see what the doc finds. Hoping it's not strep throat (though I have all the symptoms and there's only so much salt water one can gargles.) because I really rather not be on antibiotics. A cold, I can get over! Strep, eh? Yeah abx will be needed for that.
