Established (as a tin mining site worked by shallow shafts and an adit) when it was taken up in 1824, and worked by the Cornwall Great United Mining Association (London) between 1836-7.
A steam engine was erected at Wheal Jenkin in October 1836 to work 40 head of stamps, and 21 heads of new water-stamps were also under construction to handle the ore from the Cornwall Great United Mines.
In the 1870s Wheal Jenkin it was acquired by the Marke Valley adventurers. In 1881, the mine was re-opened as part of Marke Valley Consols Mines Ltd. Working for tin, the former Whim shaft was re-opened as Bellingham's shaft, and, in 1886, the Holman's shaft (South Caradon) 70" engine was re-erected in a new engine house.
The mine closed in 1890 and there are no records of any attempt to re-prospect the lodes during the early years of the 20th Century.

Dieses italienische Motorrad der Edel-Marke MV Agusta ist wohl nicht nur auf Wiens Straßen ein auffälliger Exot. Besonders auffällig an der Dragster 800 erschien mir die scheinbar frei schwebende Antriebsachse und der ungewöhnlich montierte, minimalistische Spritzschutz und Kennzeichenhalter. Die Dragster 800 liefert je nach Version zwischen 125 und 140 PS und ist ab cirka 13000 Euro bei wenigen ausgewählten Motorradhändlern zu haben. Interessant - aber nur für Singles oder Alleinfahrer ... 😛
This Italian motorbike from the noble brand MV Agusta is probably not only a conspicuous exotic on Vienna's streets. What struck me most about the Dragster 800 was the seemingly free-floating drive axle and the unusually mounted, minimalist splash guard and number plate holder. Depending on the version, the Dragster 800 delivers between 125 and 140 hp and is available from about 13,000 Euros at a few selected motorbike dealers. Interesting - but only for singles or solo riders ... 😛
De geschiedenis van de Rodenburgmolen of Molen van Marke is nauw verbonden met de abdij van Rodenburg, later de abdij van Groeninge. De oudste vermelding dateert van 1237. Tussen 1746 en 1771 werd, vermoedelijk op dezelfde plaats, een nieuwe staakmolen voor het malen van koren gebouwd door Frans Vandenhende. In 1839 afgebroken en in 1841 door Vanneste vervangen door een nieuwe stenen molen. In aanpalende hoevegebouwen werd een bakkerij ingericht, die tot W.O I actief bleef. De molen werd in 1889 uitgerust met een ketel en stoomtuig. In 1901 stelde Richard Glorieux er ook een olieslagerij met stoommachine in.
Vóór 1914 kreeg heeft de molen een zogenaamd haspelkruis, zoals nu nog is te zien bij de molen van de Robonsbospolder bij Alkmaar (Noord-Holland, Nederland). Een haspelkruis bestaat uit vier afzonderlijke roeden die met stroppen om de askop worden vastgemaakt. Aan het einde van de Eerste Wereldoorlog werd de molenromp beschadigd door een bominslag, maar de schade werd al snel hersteld. Wanneer in 1931 een wiek van de molen afkraakte, werd het volledige wiekenwerk verwijderd en werkte de molen enkel nog mechanisch; tot W.O. II op stoom, later op elektriciteit. In 1953 werd de olieslagerij gesloten en enkele jaren later, in 1957, verdween ook de schoorsteen. Het bedrijf schakelde over op veevoeders en vanaf 1968 op pluimvee. Tegen het einde van de jaren 1970 bevond de molen zich in bouwvallige toestand en werd de maalderij definitief gesloten. De bakstenen molenromp is gebouwd op een overwelfde doorgang. In de hoevegebouwen naast de korenmolen werd een bakkerij ingericht die tot aan de Eerste Wereldoorlog actief bleef.
Tijdens een storm in 1980 brokkelde de buitenste steenlaag aan één zijde bijna volledig af. De stad Kortrijk werd in 1982 eigenaar en startte in 1984 met de restauratie, die tot 1990 duurde. Ontwerper was ir.-arch. Walter Snauwaert uit Oostende (°Ingelmunster 1928 - +Oostende 2011). Bij die restauratie werd een haspelkruis aangebracht voorzien van jaloezieklepjes
(zelfzwichting). Probleem van bij het begin is dat het kruis ongeschikt is om te draaien: te zwaar, bouten bij de askop komen los. De boerderij, waarin vroeger de bakkerij was ingericht, bleef bewaard en is mee opgenomen in het dorpsgezicht. De lage hoevegebouwen zijn in U-vorm rond een gekasseid erf geschikt.

Dieser Tourenwagen gehört zu den frühen Wagen der Marke "Mercedes", die Daimler auf dem internationalen Markt platzierte. Er setzte neue Standards im Automobildesign.
Der erste "Mercedes" 1901 war ein Rennwagen. Konstrukteur Wilhelm Maybach stattete ihr erstmals mit einem Vierzylinndermotor aus. Es folgte eine Reihe hoch motorisierter Tourenwagen mit dem Beinamen "Simplex". Das design der neuen Luxuswagen prägte die Formgebung des Automobils. Der lange Radstand, das tief gelegte Fahrwerk, der lang gezogene Motorblock mit neuartigen Kühlerfront und andere technische Neuerungen wurden von anderen Herstellern vielfach kopiert und bestimmten zwei Jahrzehnte das Erscheinungsbild des Automobils. Zeitgenössische Kritiker sahen in dem Wagen deshalb das erste "moderne" Auto.
Die Mühelosigkeit, mit der die Vierzylinder Berge erklimmen konnten, und immer komfortablere Karosserien machten die Luxuswagen auch zum Vorbild schneller Reisewagen.

This touring car was one of the early "Mercedes" brand motorcars which Daimler positioned on the international market and which set new standards in automobile design.
The first "Mercedes" 1901 was a racing car. Designer Wilhelm Maybach equipped it with a four-cylinder engine. A number of high power touring cars with the sobriquet "Simplex" followed. The design of the new luxury car influenced the shape of the automobile. The long wheelbase, the lowered running gear, the elongated engine block with its innovative radiator front and other technical improvements were frequently copied by other manufacturers and influenced the look of automobiles for two decades. Contemporary critics consequently considered the car the first "modern" automobile.
The effortlessness with which four-cylinder vehicles climbed mountains and the ever more luxurious bodies also made the luxury car the model for fast long-distance sedans.

Wheal Jenkin , high up on Bodmin Moor at Minions and at the base of Caradon Hill - and THE MIZZLE !! We were down in Cornwall last week just for a few days and half of that time it was rain or mizzle . The only good thing about poor weather is the odd moody shot !! It was only a few paces from here that we witnessed the Total Solar Eclipse on August 11th 1999 .
The Marke Valley Mine,
including at various times Wheal Jenkin and West Rosedown Mine, lies just to the east of Minions village in the Caradon Mining District. It is known that men had been surface mining here since at least the 16th century. In 1837, after the discovery of a large copper ore body at what was later to become South Caradon Mine, a mine was set up by the 'Marke Valley Tin & Copper Consolidated Mines Company' - after the landowners.
There are four main shafts including Fawcett Shaft (located in Leymill Wood), Engine Shaft (with a 36-inch pumping engine installed over it), Child's Shaft (with an 18-inch winding engine installed) and Salisbury Shaft (Its engine house housing a 70-inch pumping engine in 1855, later moved to Bellingham's Shaft). After a slow start at Marke Valley, production increased steadily. Its total recorded output being in the region of 130,000 tons of relatively low grade copper ore at 4%. Just west of Salisbury Shaft lay West Rosedown Mine - itself part of Wheal Jenkin from the 1830's when they were worked as Cornwall Great United. In 1845 the mine was in the ownership of Caradon Great Consols.
Marke Valley Mine was quite significant in the Caradon area and the decision was taken to run the nearby Mineral railway to it by means of a branch line. This was completed in 1877. As the copper production declined, largely due to increased competition from the copper mines of Chile, Peru and Bolivia, the mine switched production to tin.
Wheal Jenkin had been at work from about 1824 and became part of Cornwall Great United between 1836 and 1837. Shafts on the Wheal Jenkin section included: Crease's, Pink, Adit, Whim and Bullock's Engine Shafts. In the 1870's the Marke Valley Company bought Wheal Jenkin. The whim shaft was deepened and renamed Bellingham's Engine Shaft. The owners of the enlarged sett next decided to move their operations westwards to Wheal Jenkin. After a total production of just 292 tons of black tin, the mine closed in 1890.
The West Rosedown section had been at work from 1828 working on Fisher's Lode and Old Sarum Lode. After a brief closure in the 1830's the mine reopened in 1840. Output from the West Rosedown section between 1828 and 1890 was 393 tons of black tin and over 128,500 tons of 5.25% copper ore.
In its chapter entitled 'Gleanings Among Mines and Miners', 'The Railway Register and Record of Public Enterprise for Railways' writes about Marke Valley in 1846: '... Marke Valley Mines, in Linkinhorne, on the opposite side of the hill to South Caradon, are being extensively worked by a Salisbury Company. The outlay has been about £40,000 by the shareholders, and returns of ore £7,000. Present returns 100 tons a month, which barely pay the cost of working. There is a steam-engine of 36-inch cylinder, and two water wheels ; the engine shaft is down 107 fathoms from surface, and 80 fathoms below adit. Workings are on three lodes, the ore being raised principally from the back of the Sarum lode at the 50-fathom level. The 65 level is about 8 fathoms short of being under the ore ground, in the 50. Altogether the prospects are favourable, the most important feature being that the lodes are getting through the killas, and entering the granite'.
Thomas Spargo, the mining historian, writes in his book 'The Mines of Cornwall and Devon: Statistics and Observations' in 1864, that Marke Valley was '... in the Caradon district, after an outlay of about £40,000, became a dividend mine in 1860. The prospects for large returns and profits are very encouraging, and which, I trust, will be realized, as a reward for the perseverance displayed by the company. Dues 1-18th. Agents, Captain J. Truscott and J. Stanlake; purser and manager, Captain Seccombe; secretary, Mr. J. Harding, Salisbury'.
A year later he expanded this to report '... in the parish of Linkinhorne, in 9,000 shares. Purser, Mr. John Harding, Salisbury. Manager, Captain James Seccombe, Menheniot. Landowners, Messrs. Mark Symons and Seccombe. Dues, 1-18th. Depth of adit, 30 fathoms; depth below adit, 112 fathoms. Pumping-engine, 70 and 36-inch. Stamping, winding, and crushing-engine, 33-inch. Winding-engine, 18- inch. Waterwheel, 40 feet diam., crushing. Waterwheel, 52 feet by 3 feet 6 inches, pumping.
Mineral sold in 1864: 5,071 tons of copper ore worth £16,946 18s. 10d.
A fair illustration of mining investment in England is afforded in this mine by its division into a large number of shares; and this principle seems to act very well in this mine, and to be in favour of the public. The mine cannot be considered a very rich one, as the levels are not reported to produce so much ore aa might be supposed from the dividends, which certainly betokens good, not to say masterly management. The mine has paid profits to the extent of about £30,000, and the selling value is about £50,000, making together £80,000. The outlay, in round numbers, being about £40,000, one half of dividends and market value; taking the dividends at £600 per month, say £7,000 a year, investors would gain about 14 per cent. for their money. The locality of this mine, in a geological point of view, is good, and conformatory to the miners' opinion of the true position of the strata, the rock of the mine being killas over the granite of the Caradon Hill, the sett being nearly a mile on the run of the lodes, and embracing half a mile in width. It seems, reasoning from the aspect of affairs in this mine, to be a good plan to divide mines into a considerable number of shares; in this every share at present is represented by about a £5 note, a handy and convenient division, affording a medium for even the humblest speculator, and not debarring the richest from taking a share in the adventure. Had the mine been divided even into 1,000 shares, each share being worth say £45, might have prevented many from purchasing them, while, at the same time, the stock seems to be fairly appreciated, and the system seems rather to augment than diminish the whole value of the property'.

By the way, I wanna say thank you to all flickr users who have sent me stamps! Great! Thank you! Someone sent me 3 or 5 stamps, another one sent me more than 20 stamps in a letter. It's everytime a great surprise for me and I'm everytime happy to get letters with stamps inside from you!

Kortrijk also known in English as Courtrai or Courtray is a Belgian city and municipality in the Flemish province of West Flanders.
It is the capital and largest city of the judicial and administrative arrondissement of Kortrijk. The wider municipality comprises the city of Kortrijk proper and the villages of Aalbeke, Bellegem, Bissegem, Heule, Kooigem, Marke, and Rollegem. Kortrijk is also part of the cross-border Lille-Kortrijk-Tournai metropolitan area.
The city is on the river Leie, 42 km (26 mi) southwest of Ghent and 25 km (16 mi) northeast of Lille. Mouscron in Wallonia is just south of Kortrijk.
Kortrijk originated from a Gallo-Roman town, Cortoriacum, at a crossroads near the Leie river and two Roman roads. In the Middle Ages, Kortrijk grew significantly thanks to the flax and wool industry with France and England and became one of the biggest and richest cities in Flanders. The city is often referred to as City of Groeninge or City of the Golden Spurs, referring to the Battle of Courtrai or the Battle of the Golden Spurs which took place on 11 July 1302 on the Fields of Groeninge in Kortrijk. In 1820 the Treaty of Kortrijk was signed, laying out the still-current borders between France and Belgium. Throughout the 19th and 20th century, the flax industry flourished and remains important within the Belgian textile industry today.
Kortrijk is the largest city in southern West Flanders, with several hospitals, colleges and a university. Kortrijk was the first city in Belgium with a pedestrian shopping street, the Korte Steenstraat.
