The trees in the photo are deciduous hardwoods, most likely maples (Acer sp.).
Identification
Leaves: The canopy is dense with broad, lobed leaves typical of maples, allowing sunlight to filter through in patches.
Bark: The trunks have furrowed, gray-brown bark, common in mature maples and other hardwoods.
Branching: Upright, arching limbs create a vaulted ceiling of foliage, a common growth pattern in maples when competing for light in a woodland.
Description
This is a classic mixed temperate forest canopy scene, photographed looking upward toward the sun. The light filters through the overlapping green leaves, producing a dappled effect. The photo captures the vertical strength of the trunks and the spread of branches, emphasizing height and openness. The presence of thick undergrowth at the bottom suggests a healthy, layered ecosystem—trees forming the upper canopy and shrubs below.
No Photoshopping involved. I just looked up and saw back-lit leaves against a very clear blue sky.

Pure, simple and revealing... blue sky, bright yellow maple leaves, using the sun to back light from under the tree.
Sometimes... simplicity is good!

big leaf maple.......fall 2013. Nothing I do could capture the beauty of this tree. No camera could catch it.
More handheld macros from an afternoon walk in the Harriet Irving Botanical Gardens, Acadia University.
Not too happy with this image, apart from the lovely colour. I just have to post a red Silver Maple leaf each fall now, though, as this is so rare in our city! This Silver Maple tree, possibly a hybrid, is only a tiny tree that is growing in Bowness Park, so there are limited leaves from which to choose.
