If you have ever lived (or visited) a place that experiences very cold temperatures during the winter months you might have noticed that winter has its own color palette. There is a range of color in the sky and the quality of the light that is uniquely associated with cold. I shot this image yesterday evening (a two shot panorama) while doing some testing of the new Canon EF 70-300mm IS II lens (not the lens used for this photo). The temperature was below zero F (about -20 C), and you can see the color of cold in this otherwise beautiful landscape. Across the wide frozen river you can see the shore and hills that are the province of Quebec. The little Voigtländer 20mm pancake lens is one that I added to my own personal kit in 2016. You can see what I added and what I dropped from my kit in 2016 (and why) here: bit.ly/DADrop

The "polar vortex" has lingered for several weeks here, with temperatures dropping deeply before zero day after day. This morning it was -30C without wind chill, and it wasn't much warmer when I took this shot standing in knee deep snow yesterday evening. The long shadows are polar blue, and the sun, while bright, has been putting off very little warmth. Brrrr...I'm ready for spring. For this shot I used the new Viltrox 20mm F1.8 - a brand new lens for Sony FE. You can see more images from it here: bit.ly/viltrox20IG or watch my first look video on the lens here: bit.ly/viltrox20FL

The Zeiss Milvus 35mm f/1.4 is going to be a very, very special lens. Here's another wide open exampe of how the legendary Zeiss color, microcontrast, and sharpness all come together to make something beautiful. I've done some targeted editing here (the vignette on the lens is actually not bad), but I wanted to enhance the mood. I was very happy that my youngest son chose to wear a red shirt. His little form was the perfect color foil to the green forest around. My first look video is available here: bit.ly/Milvus1435FL | You can also see more images here: bit.ly/milvus1435IG

Shot early in the morning with my Panagor 90mm macro. I went out to shoot some landscape but didn't shoot anything special and the light was not so nice in my opinion. But for macro it was perfect.
Thank you all for the views, faves and comments, this shot made it to explore #20!
Work and doctor's order keep me away from Flickr! The good doctor has ordered me to move my butt and walk everyday for an hour and that's the hour I have to keep off Flickr!
Got a Nikkor 50mm f1.8 lens and here is one shot from my garden fence.

An old chair made from bent willow is shown imaged with a very old Soviet Helios 44-3M 58mm f/2 lens wide open at f/2.0. This particular lens adapted to the EOS R with the Fotodiox Pro m42-EOS RF adapter produces a uniquely beautiful swirly bokeh that can turn almost any object into something very very special.
