practising manual focussing with the Sigma 120-400. Tricky!

I got a little bit of a bonus at work and spent a large portion of it on used lenses. ^_^

The D-class (IB1) lifeboats are inflatable boats serving in the RNLI inshore lifeboat (ILB) fleet as well as a number of Independent Lifeboats around the UK and Ireland. Although they are known as the 'IB1' at times, they are the latest development of the D-class lifeboat and as such are mainly referred to as a 'D-class'.

This class of lifeboat is one of the smallest operated by the RNLI. Unlike other members of the ILB fleet, the D-class does not have a rigid hull.

The D-class normally has a crew of three or four and is primarily used for surfer/swimmer incidents as well as assisting in cliff incidents where the casualty is near the water. The very nature of its work requires a swift response, and the D-class can normally be afloat very quickly.

With no wheelhouse on the D-class lifeboat, the crew are exposed to the elements at all times and rely on their protective kit to keep them safe and warm. Many rescues take place at night and can involve being close to dangerous cliffs and manmade structures, or searching caves and crevices. In addition to night vision equipment, the D-class lifeboat carries a searchlight and parachute illuminating flares to light up the surrounding area, helping to keep crew members safe as well as locate those in need of help. Medical equipment is stowed in the bow pod and includes oxygen and full resuscitation kit, responder bag and multi-purpose ambulance pouch. In the event of a capsize, the D-class lifeboat can be righted manually by the crew and her 50 hp outboard engine restarted.

I have a acquired a bundle of old user manuals and brochures for Zeiss Ikon (and Voigtländer, which belonged to Zeiss Ikon since the 1950s) cameras and lenses.

I need only some of this material, but I had to buy the whole bundle, so I will divest myself of the remainder in the near future. Please contact me via direct message if you are interested in any of the items I will be putting up.

I own two Bessamatics and am unlikely to acquire an Ultramatic, so I am unlikely to be needing this manual in the future.

Week 3 - Technical: Full Manual

While the camera often determines shutter speed and aperture for the photographer, it doesn't know your creative intent. This week, challenge your self to assume creative control over the camera by using full manual mode. Select a subject where varying the aperture and / or shutter speed helps enhance the composition and visual qualities of the image.

Beautiful things happen with the surface of the water is still. The reflections allow there to be a "second sky", and the perfect symmetry of mirrored shorelines makes for a very asthetically pleasing result. Perhaps this is why Psalms 46 reminds us to be still and know Him. Beautiful things happen in that stillness when we allow His glory to be reflected. This one is late, but better late than never!

I like to use the manual setting on my camera when I'm taking pictures. Getting the lighting and colors I want without editing is hard in other settings.

I decided to use my bar cart for this photo in order to play with the reflection of the light off the bottles, the color of the bourbons and woods, and get a light airy brightness.

It's natural, before the actual seeding to take place.. you need to plough the field.

But nowadays its more common for a field to be ploughed with a machine rather than manually.

Photograph taken at 13:17pm an altitude of One Thousand, nine hundred and thirty two metres on Sunday 14th September 2014 having taken the Creekside Gondola up to Whistler mountain, in the Fitzsimmons Range of the Pacific ranges of coastal mountains on the Northwestern edge of Garibaldi Provincial Park, British Columbia, Canada. I then took the 'Peak 2 Peak' gondola across the Blackcomb mountain, where this frame was captured.

Blackcomb Peak is located east of Whistler, forming the boundary between the Whistler Blackcomb ski resort and the Garibaldi Provincial Park. She stand The mountain stands Two thousand, four hundred and thirty six metres tall (7,992ft) and is approximately One hundred million years old. I stayed for three days at the Whistler Blackcomb resort at The Crystal Lodge in the village, and could not wait to visit both Whistler and Blackcomb mountains via the world famous Peak 2 Peak Gondola.

The peak 2 peak gondola at Whistler Blackcomb took two years to construct, connecting the alpine of Whistler and Blackcomb mountains and spaning 4.4km in length. The ride time takes Eleven minutes with one cabin, capable of seating Twenty eight people, departing every Forty nine seconds. The Gondola runs on an 8,850 metre long, 56 millimetre thick centre haul rope, with two 56 millimetre outer track ropes to support the weight and has a maximum speed of 7.5 metres per second.

The Gondola system holds three world records for longest unsupported span, highest lift of it's kind and the world's lonmgest continuous lift system. A two day adult pass, allowing you to travel twice on the peak 2 peak gondala and as many times as you wish on the smaller additional chair lifts at either mountain, costs just $62 (a single day pass is ten dollars less). To reach the summit of Whistler mountain also required an additional open ski chair lift ride which was totally awesome.

well, here it is, time to rejoin the diary group. I can't help it, I love diaries, I love them so much. I like the insight into lives, I like the intimacies, I like the stories and I like my flickr friends. The diary group is fantastic in that there isn't a problem with starting, stopping and restarting the project. It is understood that people are different and diaries are individual. Some special people make up the group: sunshinecity, buns, rob among many others :)) I am pleased to have inspired a couple of people to create diaries, cooliceblue, I'm going to hunt you down.
