This is my last post before Christmas, so wanted to wish you all a wonderful holiday season, whether or not you celebrate. And I'd like to thank you for all your lovely comments throughout the year. I've made so many friends on here, and quite a few more in the past year, and love the interactions and seeing the mix of all your different types of photography. Looking forward to another year of photography and friendship :)
I made these wire balls for Christmas decorations and put them into a crystal bowl. Taken with my Pentacon AV 80mm, and Kenko extension tubes.

As well as the excursion, this day was a testing day of sorts.
Got a new backpack a few weeks ago to carry gear (Mindshift BackLight). Check! Carried some extra gear just to add some weight and it felt great.
Got some new boots this past week that are water proof. Double check!! Feet kept dry.
And wanted to test using my Canon wide angle on the Sony camera. Autofocus speed is not great, so switch to manual focusing which isn't a big deal for landscapes. Focus peaking makes it easy. Check!
A good day :))

My tiny little helpers from little world gave me once more a helping hand. They did the presets for my last manual focus shooting. :)

I must say, I was shocked when I saw how nighttime changes an owl's face. While they become fearsome predators at night, they also become much more adorable to us humans, who have evolved to perceive large eyes as captivating and innocent.
In an effort to find area barred owls, I set out to a local park before sunrise and came upon this Eastern Screech Owl (Megascops asio) in the dark. This darkness was so inky and thick, in fact, that I could not see if he was in his hole or not, so trained my tripoded camera on the hole, manually focused, and finally saw him in the preview window! Shocked for sure by those massive pupils staring down at me, a frog (which he swallowed greedily prior to this photo and while I watched) in his talons!
Interestingly, owl eyeballs are not balls at all, but so well evolved for night vision that they have elongated into eye cones. For this reason, they cannot move their eyes in their sockets, and have evolved wildly-flexible necks. With their highly acute retinas replete with rods (the light and movement sensing eye bits), there wasn't much room for cones, and so most owls see limited or no color!
A vintage Royal typewriter with manual metal keys stuck together, illuminated by a strobe or flash with a snoot wrapped it. The directed light came from the right in a dark room.
Fun. A good way to entertain myself these days. An earlier version from ten years ago in first comment box.

Nella penombra tu sei la luce
.
Trattenerti non posso come vorrei in questo
abbraccio

In the twilight you are the light
.
I can't hold you as I would like in this
hug
I close my eyes
I let myself be cradled
from the beat of your heart
I get lost in your sweetness
keep your headlights open my daughter i will be here at yours
side in the dark.
I will let you travel in the light
you are the brightest star. On the journey of life i
steps will lead you away from this embrace.
but nothing will keep us apart
I will still feel your smell of good left
tattooed on my heart baby
hugged to yours.

Sony (rx10 M2- Carl Zeiss vario-sonnar T* f2.8) wite a 24-200m lens. HDR on.Exposure program / manual
Though I do have technologically advanced cameras, I tend to prefer older cameras (all these are second-hand cameras with a 16MP sensor) and use them manually. I am not rejecting technological excellence and sophisticated algorithms. All I am saying is that I have more joy when working manually and that Fuji's old 16MP sensor is really good enough for my purposes. This shot was done with my new (ten year old) Fuji X-Pro1.

I found this little buy hanging on to the underside of a milkweed leaf... I think he was resting after a long day being buzzy in my garden!!
I love everything about nature and to be able to walk under this huge and very old Beech Tree at the Bayard Cutting Arboretum, is so awe inspiring.... this lens and image does not do this tree justice.... she totally surrounds you with her limbs....
you come out feeling warm and fuzzy....
...we all need to hug a tree whenever we can!!!

Formula fiorale:
K (5), C (5), A 5, G (5)

Another attempt with this old manual lens. There are some C/A tracks on contours, but the total result is good. (Small white points are by light rain drops, not lens fault)
(_3120280-a-26-APIL-MANUAL-VP)
I share a stack made from a selection of 47 photos. I tried to assemble it automatically with PS, but I didn't like the result, so I took photo by photo and applied a layer mask one by one on the areas with more detail. To do this I make all the layers invisible except the bottom one, then I take the one immediately above it and apply a layer mask (white) to it, then paint black over the focused areas and then invert the mask selection (command+I on Mac), so on up to the top layer. Along the way I leave some layers unused if they don't give me information. It is not as perfect as I would like, but... (_3120280-a-26-APIL-MANUAL-VP)
