Los colores de las últimas luces del atardecer le dan un marco a las serranías que dominan la Depresión Central en los alrededores del poblado abandonado de Aguada de Cachinales (Segunda Región de Antofagasta, Chile). Completa la escena el planeta Venus asomando tímidamente entre las nubes.

La Depresión Central, también conocida como el Valle longitudinal, es uno de los principales rasgos de la geografía de Chile. Se trata de una depresión tectónica que recorre al país de manera longitudinal, flanqueada por dos grandes alineaciones montañosas: la Cordillera de Principal al este y la Cordillera de la Costa al oeste.

30-second long exposure with an ND filter.

Personally I would have preferred the 4-inch filters so I can drop in after I have set the focus, but I can’t seem to find them in Hong Kong. But I found this variable filter recently: the H&Y ND2-ND400 specifically. It is a screw in, and when set to minimum ND2 I can still see the scene fairly clearly as well as able to focus using the AF on the camera. After I have the parameters set, I dialled it to ND400 and expose everything manually.

I think that I should be able to push a little longer next time. What I observed is that because of the wind, the plants appear to move quite a bit and thus rendering a blur. So next time I would try to do a 2-minute if I am able to.

Here's another from my evening out at Harmony Beach. This was the result of just playing around with different tripod setups, and I kind of liked the outcome. I had the tripod legs completely spread apart, and made the centre column completely horizontal (one of the special features of the Manfrotto 190XPROB). This allowed me to be inches from the sand/stones. What I really like is the motion blur of the stones beneath the water, as a result of the long exposure and waves rolling in.

The dramatic changes of the weather over the last week provided a wonderful chance to enjoy the outdoors and landscape photography. Even though i had to hover somewhere between work, Easter food (which in Greece is A LOT, with capital letters) and travelling i enjoyed this break from Athens.

This photo was taken in Milina, Pelion, Greece. It was well into the blue hour, the exposure was long enough to make the already calm sea even smoother and the vanished sun provided happily its last rays, painting the clouds from below. I exposed to the right and used a Lee 0.9GND filter to keep the sky within the dynamic range limits of my Canon 450d. The dark spot in the middle of the frame is a buoy.

After the global adjustments in Lightroom i converted the file in TIFF and applied the detailed adjustments using Tony Kuyper's Luminosity Masks to darken the front of the rocks and give a bit of saturation to the sky.

I used a Manfrotto 055XPROB with a 804RC2 head to keep everything rock steady.

Petite randonnée autour des rivières de sassenage cette aprés midi, et le mieu c'est que je n'est toujours pas terminé le tour qu'il y a à faire, j'y retournerais bientôt !! :) voilà donc deux nouvelles photos de cet endroit magnifique !
