Manfrotto 055XPROB legs with Giottos MH1312 Ball head. I used a Manfrotto junior 3 way head before this and i find the ball head much more versatile.

The cracked leg collar that caused the problem. This plastic is all but impossible to glue, especially in a high mechanical load position. Gaffer tape stretches and the lever has to kept clear; a small hose clamp and tie wire were also tried without success.
...making a macro picture using the nikkor 50mm f/1.8 reversed with the BR-2A adapter and the BR-3 to protect the lens. You can see the result here on my website

The Manfrotto 327RC2 is the best tripod head I have ever used.
You can move the camera to any position by unlocking the head with a single hand movement.
