We're taking a new approach to how we perform critical inspection and maintenance of subway components that are necessary to providing reliable service -- FASTRACK. The third implementation of FASTRACK is taking place on the Sixth Avenue B/D/F/M Line from 57 Street to W 4 Street from Feb. 27 to March 2, 2012. Because a section of the subway is closed to trains for seven consecutive hours, FASTRACK is a safer and more efficient way to maintain and clean New York City's sprawling subway — a system that never closes.

With no trains running along Sixth Avenue, 800 MTA employees are able to inspect signals, replace rails and cross ties, scrape track floors, clean stations and paint areas that are not reachable during normal train operation. Workers also took the opportunity to clean lighting fixtures, change bulbs and repair platform edges while performing high-intensity station cleaning.

66-794 in Maintenance at Dong Ba Thin, Republic of South Viet Nam 1967. After our encounter with small arms fire north of Qui Nhon the aircraft was repaired enough to fly it back to our home base at Dong Ba Thin, to the West of Cam Rahn Bay, for more detailed work. I found out that the seat tube near where my knee was had a hole in it. The maintenance guys presented me with a bullet that had lodged in it.

Maintenance on our R32s cars will keep them on the rails until new R179 cars are delivered. We're doing a limited-scope maintenance makeover on four cars per week.

With their once-gleaming stainless-steel bodies dulled by age and their windows scarred by the negative attention of vandals, MTA New York City Transit's R32 subway cars are living out their final years of service until the arrival of their replacements. In order to make those last trips go more smoothly, however, the cars are "having a little work done."

The "Brightliners," as the Budd-built cars were dubbed upon their introduction into service back in 1964, were the first large fleet of stainless steel cars purchased by New York City Transit and the first corrosion resistant cars placed in service since the ten experimental cars purchased in 1949 by the New York City Board of Transportation.

Maintenance Manuals like this proved beneficial for metropolitan districts as they managed the maintenance of hundreds of acres of open space. The Manual includes detailed plant maintenance requirements, snow removal routes, park/playground furniture schedules, masonry manufactures, etc. (completed while at Norris Design)
