Doing a roll-by for photos after a several month refurbishment. On the way back to the maintenance yard near Sunol, they announced that there was room for 5 or 6 people in the cab if anybody wanted to. Guess who was the first one there.

Improved my editing process, and I think I can get cleaner IR results from that little 1/2.3-inch sensor. Still some other maintenance to do on the camera, but this came out well enough that I'm going to share it.
This is a Panasonic Lumix ZS6 with the hot mirror removed and a 720nm filter. I then swapped red and blue channels in post to get yellow trees and blue sky instead of the reverse, and did some additional color adjustments.
I really like IR skies. IR reveals quite a bit of detail and drama.
These images are also my fall fix before the leaves have even started to change.

Pan Am EDPL pops out of the tunnel under Albany Avenue in Hartford. The train had just had a rolling meet with Amtrak 56 to the north of here before it got its turn to pass down the single track stretch, one of two such areas left on this line. Due to construction here in Hartford and maintenance elsewhere on the line most of the passenger trains were suspended which opened a big window of time for the normally overnight EDPL/PLED to appear in midday for a few weeks.
With a fresh crew onboard, northbound MOW train W030-19 notches up at the north end of Cairo siding behind a pair of EMD's finest.

I'm having to post and run today - I'll hope to catch up this evening. We have strong gales as well as driving rain here, which means power cuts are quite likely. Not enough maintenance has been done by the privatised electricity companies - cutting back the trees close to the overhead lines. Fingers crossed here!
