Took as part of a series of images I have begin taking for a college project. This is not what I am going to do, but the line down the centre of my head where my make up stops is intentional, and is part of what I wil be doing. I liked the eye contact in this, and of course the eyelashes!

MAKING UP presents Fiona Raby and Bruce Sterling, two of the world’s most influential voices at the intersection of fiction and design, joined MADE UP curator Tim Durfee to discuss tactical anachronisms, designing for ambiguous reality, and the re-emergence of speculative practice in the 21st century. Moderated by Anne Burdick, MDP Chair.
Made Up: Design’s Fictions was staged in the 3,000 square foot, 50 foot high Wind Tunnel Gallery at South Campus from January 29 - March 20, 2011. Made Up is work of major and emerging international practices that forecast, hypothesize, muse, skylark, role-play, put-on-airs, freak-out or otherwise fake-it to produce work that is relevant to our increasingly confusing and accelerated world. Selections included a self-recording, 1:1 map of questions and propositions: dreams as program; science fiction as precedent; cults of commerce; objects as ideas; truth-revealing jokes; false histories; and elaborate scenarios.

The Woofus, a combination of six classic Texas animals, sits outside the Swine Building atop a 16-foolt pedestal and was originally created for the 1936 Texas Centennial Exposition by sculptor Lawrence Tenney Stevens but disappeared shortly thereafter. It has a sheep's head, a stallion's neck, a hog's body, turkey feathers and duck wings. The "crowning" glory of the piece is a set of ten-foot wide Texas longhorns gilded with chromium with a crown perched between them and a Mexican blanket draped around his shoulders. The Woofus was returned home in September of 2003 thanks to the efforts of Friends of Fair Park and the State Fair of Texas.

Today we rode the E&N dayliner to Courtenay, Bc and return. Ten hours well wasted! This was our annual, dayliner upisland excursion. Most years we just ride the budd car to Qualicum where a two-and-a-half hour layover can be enjoyed to walkabout and enjoy a nice lunch. Inasmuch as we've visited Courtenay overnight for the past thee years, we decided it was time to do the whole 140-mile (railway distances are measured by mileage markers) distance from Victoria to the end-of-the-line. we enjoyed a great day thanks inpart to the friendly and efficient CPR rail staff.
The layover time at Courtenay Station was brief but we did have time to eat our picnic lunch indoors. We were running 17-minutes late (arriving at 13:02 instead of 12:45) due to autumn leaves on the rails. As the train drives over them, they release oils which make the track so slippery the wheels just spin. On certain grades along the route, his brought the train almost to a standstill. An interesting phenomena when travelling at this time of the years. We were lucky: yesterday's train was 30-minutes late. We madeup a bit of time during the return trip arrving at the Blue Bridge only 10-minutes late.
The highlight of the trip for us was waving at the kids who live along the route. Bentley & Sharon's home is on View Royal hillside with a commanding view eastward toward the E&N line. They are familiar with the trains comings&goings but seldom get phonecalls from anyone who may be aboard. This all changed today! Anyway, we enjoyed waving to family members gathered on the front deck waving back. Life's neat, aint it?
P.S. Thanks to Bentley who was driving his unit westbound underneath the Helmcken Rd trestle just as we passed overhead. Serendipity for certainty.

The All-Justin Band.
(Seriously - that's me with different clothes on, playing all the instruments).
What I did was film myself playing them, then overlapped the footage on top of the other. Unfortunately it diminishes the previous scene so it looks like the All-Ghost Justin Band.
I'm all playing an excerpt of the Madness song "In the City."
And I didn't have a saxophone so I improvised with a roll of paper towels.
I'm sorry if it's really hard to see (particularly the lead singer, drummer and pianist) but if you look closely you'll find a hint of me somewhere (my feet on the ground, my head just visable in front of the saxophonist...) And just my hands are seen playing the keyboard.

SUNDAY AFTERNOON AT THE RV PARK, by Georges Seurat.
It took Seurat two years to complete the ten feet wide painting. At first it had only "l'airstreames" but he then decided to add some people. He was inspired to paint this after he saw Sondheim's Sunday in the Park with George. You can see the original at The Art Institute of Chicago.

Tim Durfee is organizer-curator-director of the events that comprise the MADE UP series. Tim became part of the core faculty at the MDP in 2009, after a two-year visiting Associate Professorship at Woodbury University. Before that, he taught for twelve years at SCI-Arc (The Southern California Institute of Architecture), where we was Director of Visual Studies. Tim’s independent and collaborative practices are diverse, but — resisting the term ‘multi-disciplinary’— attempt to operate in a way where the appropriate mode and medium for a given project emerges from a process of research and inquiry. Some of this work includes award-winning buildings, exhibitions, online exhibitions, sign systems, motion and sound.
