check out a new Calligraphy pen---I think my 40 year old ones write like they're tired---I found it a way to pass time while the ultra sound was going on to note the
sounds I could hear--which were chiefly
whaaabahhhh....whawabah--from the machine, then lots of clicky sounds from the operator--the crackle of paper on my
shoulder when a shift was made...that's it....I thought today's muscians could use these sounds creatively....
This photo was taken during the last week of operation of the Asheville Mica Company, established in 1899. Mica dust was a sea of glitter in the air. These old machines remind me of weird Japanimation cartoons like Steamboy.
I bought it from a Charity Shop.
The maker is Grain and it is made in the UK. I think 1950s. I read online somewhere that it would have cost £3 at the time which was nearly a week's wage for many.

Fitness at Wesley Grand
Wesley Grand has a small, but very well equipped gymn. Many weight machines, treadmills and cycling devices. Through the windows you can see a pool, and off to the side, a hydrotherapy area—treadmills in the water and so on. Not visible is a free weight room, a room for massage and a class room.
I use the gym 3 or 4 times a week, though in this picture, I’m sitting in the easy chair to make sure nothing goes wrong with the camera or the rotator.
It’s best to get to the gym early. I like to start my day with a workout.
