Besides the 'convenience stores', vending machines were our second great means of nourishment. All kinds of coffee drinks [including a series of Alphons Mucha print cans that I collected and then left in the apartment!] were available, as well as sandwiches, candies and Pinky.St figures. The physionotrace was a mechanical instrument invented by Gilles-Louis Chrétien in 1784. It was used to trace a profile portrait and using a pantograph reduce it onto a copper plate for engraving. Multiple prints could then be made of the portrait.

A machining workshop at the Kuala Sepetang harbour. An old traditional machining shop servicing all boats at the jetty....a happy face is a sign of constant volume of work, a sigh of relief at this hard times.

I came across a collection of old farm tools on display at a local farm this fall.

This 1969 catalog describes the versatile Unimat "Universal Machine Tool" and accessories. This 5-in-1 machine can be a universal drill press, precision metal lathe, polisher/grinder, vertical mill, and surface grinder. Very cool tool!!!
Ajax milling machine: as bought, ready for restoration.This would originally have been a horizontal mill, but a previous owner converted it to vertical (and added a power feed to the table). Not elegant to look at, but a rock solid conversion.
Bulroc drill tubes are produced from high quality seamless pipe. They are designed to the highest standards using the thinnest wall section material but without the loss of the necessary strength to give the closest ratio of weight to durability. Tool joints of high alloy steel are nitrited to provide a hardwearing surface for longer thread life. All Bulroc drill tubes are friction welded to give the strongest and most consistent form of welding to ensure long life and dependability. Thread protectors are fitted to both pin and box ends of all Bulroc drill tubes that are finished with a protective surface coating. Bulroc also produce Combined Cased Drill Tubes which are required when drilling large diameter holes with relatively small diameter drill tubes, using air as a flushing medium.
I am not sure what they are, so machines is as good a title as any.

I work at the Australian Technology Park. It has been converted from old Railway workshops, and there are many artefacts from its former use around.
I marked a red line on the flywheel and illuminated it with my home-made LED stroboscope. The motor was powered by my bench PSU, and the preset on the motor speed control PCB adjusted to get the right speed.
Since the unit is used only for speech recording, this should be near enough. I can always re-set it later if I get a frequency test tape.

Remains of a Redlands, California wind machine.
The orange grove once protected by this particular wind machine has long been gone, yet the giant fan remains.
This one looks to be powered by a V-8 truck engine, complete with transmission and driveshaft.
I used a kite to fly the camera.
