Designed by Edward Turner, creator of the legendary Triumph Speed Twin, the first Ariel Square Four was shown at the Olympia Motorcycle Show in 1930. Conceived as an overhead-camshaft 500, the model grew to 601cc before a total redesign saw it emerge as the Model 4G, with 995cc overhead-valve engine.

This particular machine underwent a complete restoration by noted Canadian expert Tim Bardsley of Mostly British Motorcycles Company and is a stunning example. The bike is located in the Toronto, Ontario, Canada region. Additional details at www.vintagemotorcyclesforsale.ca.

It was quite cool to see the various Coke vending machines used throughout the years.

One of my students at GSC called the etching press a "print machine" which made me laugh. I think this little letterpress should be more appropriately dubbed "The Print Machine" ;)

Few slices of bread - dribble of olive oil (still think I'm in Spain don't I?) - bit of mango/peach jam (low in sugar) - and an Americano ... I'm all set (if only I could capture the smell for you - if I'd made a vlog - I would have sounded like a disgusting pig )

This photograph, taken in the Hawthorn Leslie yard, Hebburn is of a Shotblast Machine Showing Manipulators, Sept 1960.

Reference: 2931-43-10

This image is taken from an album produced by the world famous shipbuilding and engineering firm of Hawthorn Leslie. The album gives us a fascinating glimpse of life at the company's shipyard at Hebburn from the late 1930s to the 1960s. There are remarkable images of the men at work in the yard and a poignant series showing the terrible damage caused during the Second World War to HMS Kelly, one of Hawthorn Leslie's best loved ships.

This particular collection of images follows the Birth and ultimate Death of a ship. From the craft and pride in its production and the joy in its performance, to the devastation and price of its destruction.

A blog about this fascinating collection can been viewed here on the Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums website.

A very odd machine on display at the Reynolds Alberta Museum (of transport), also extremely difficult to photograph where it is placed within the museum:

A 1949 Multi-Ped, a one-off: "1949, Edward (Ward) Snell of Edmonton wanted to design a machine that would travel over muskeg and rough terrain. Wheeled vehicles often got bogged down under these conditions, so Snell made his tractor walk rather than roll. The "legs" move independently, making the tractor walk.

Along with Aimee Dragon, who owned a repair shop in Wetaskiwin, Snell built this prototype between 1947 and 1949.
