Although H.G. Well's The Time Machine has been the basis for many films over the years, this adaptation is by far the best, with Rod Taylor and Yvette Mimieux taking on the evil Morlocks.
On January 5, 1900, a disheveled looking H.G. Wells - George to his friends - arrives late to his own dinner party. He tells his guests of his travels in his time machine, the work about which his friends knew. They were also unbelieving, and skeptical of any practical use if it did indeed work. George knew that his machine was stationary in geographic position, but he did not account for changes in what happens over time to that location. He also learns that the machine is not impervious and he is not immune to those who do not understand him or the machine's purpose. George tells his friends that he did not find the Utopian society he so wished had developed. He mentions specifically a civilization several thousand years into the future which consists of the subterranean morlocks and the surface dwelling eloi, who on first glance lead a carefree life. Despite all these issues, love can still bloom over the spread of millennia.

First sketches and models for the Time Machine, a new interactive art project created by Pataphysical Studios.
In this brainstorm session, each team member sketched out their own ideas, then discussed them with the group, to design our upcoming time travel experience together.
Next, we plan to create a composite design with some of these ideas, to integrate them into a single blueprint.
To be continued ...

Not a computer in sight in this working machine shop in south-western Ontario, Canada. Founded in 1914 and still operating by the same family. Durable "old school" machine tools and the operator's skills. No CNC or 3D printer. Line shafts and flat belt pulleys. A time capsule of early twentieth century technology.

This was one of the oddest vending machines I've seen. Not in design but in selection of items. An Epcot Center doohicky, a faux Old West leather wallet, condoms, Confederate flag crap, candy.
Given the lovably eccentric owner of the joint (Randy Senna), it makes sense.
Claire wrote a story about Wildwood last year that has a sidebar about Mr. Senna.
A vending machine in Kawagoe, Saitama. I like the fact that it was themed in such a way to represent the city. I saw this one near the statue of Ota Dokan, a short walk from Hikawa shrine and the "Bell of Time."
This is my Mom's old sewing machine. It's kind of an odd thing, but seeing, using, and smelling this old sewing machine brings back vague but happy childhood memories. I remember being fascinated by its knobs and its mechanics -- the way that the take-up lever goes up and down, winding and unwinding thread onto the bobbin, the way the foot lifts up and down, and the way it moves the fabric forward. I find the sound comforting as well. As a kid I must have driven Mom crazy by pushing the various buttons and changing all the settings.
