Detail view of the lower portion of the main carriage. The white block is a piece of HDPE that holds the rod that the back of the carriage slides back and forth on to relieve the strain that would be on the hinge at the front. There's another piece of HDPE attached where the rod goes through the carriage to give it a slippery surface. Note that the mount for the elevation motor is still temporarily attached with a C-clamp. The threaded rod pointing towards the camera is spun to move the carriage back and forth (pivoting at the front).
Antique Singer sewing machine with original oak cabinet that belonged to my wife’s grandmother. It is still in excellent working condition. It is powered by pumping a treadle with your foot.
The inventor has a very interesting history ~ Isaac Merritt Singer (October 27, 1811 – July 23, 1875) was an inventor, actor, and entrepreneur. He made important improvements in the design of the sewing machine and was the founder of the Singer Sewing Machine Company. Check out his listing in Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isaac_Singer

The ‘Pataphysical Slot Machine is on exhibit at the Mill Valley Library this month. Visitors to this unique art project seem to really enjoy the experience: their faces tell the whole story in this photo album. Overall, the slot machine seems to have a positive social impact: it makes people happy, gets them inspired -- and can help some of them become art makers.
Come see the slot machine this month! Our poetic oracle awaits you every weekend, to share words of wisdom about your life and future.
The exhibit is open from 1 to 5pm every Saturday and Sunday in October, in the downstairs conference room of the Mill Valley Library.
Pataphysical Studio members will be on hand to demo the Slot Machine and share what they have learned while building this interactive art project.

Measure the widest points on the sides, mine measures 15" wide and 7.5" deep at the widest points. So my footprint is 15" x 7.5". You can slide a thin ruler under the bottom to assist you, but remember that some bits stick out further in the middle of the machine as opposed to the base, so look from the top as you're measuring.

Taken with a Nikon Pronea-S camera in week 225 of my 52 film cameras in 52 weeks project:

The Nikon Pronea-S is the second APS camera that I have used. The APS (Advanced Photo System) was introduced in 1996, it used 24mm wide film, and had provisions for three different aspect ratios to be selected, though the negative always recorded the full frame, and the different formats were implemented at the printing stage, with data being read from the film to tell the machines which aspect to use.
APS was a short lived format as soon after it was introduced digital cameras started to become more affordable, and the non-technically minded snap shooter, for whom the APS system was ideal, soon switched to digital. The film is no longer made, but is still fairly easy to find online. This Fujicolor Nexia A200 colour negative film was in the camera when I found it in a charity shop, only the first few frames had been used. I adapted one of my 35mm spirals to take the 24mm wide film, and developed it in the Tetenal C41 kit.
Unlike the Minolta APS SLR that I used recently, the Nikon accepts all the Nikon mount lenses, so I was able to use my 18-200mm VR lens which is made for the smaller than full frame DSLRs, there is some vignetting at the wide angle end of the range, but otherwise the lens works perfectly with the APS negative size.
Den has a huge range of talents but quite early on in our relationship she made it quite clear she has no interest or ability when it comes to any kind of needlework. So I am the seamstress in our relationship.
Adopting my normal "how hard can it be" attitude I decided our household needed a sewing machine and I would have to be the one to learn how to use it. I spent hours in my local sewing machine shop enthusiastically assisted by a dear old lady who worked part time in the shop and she patiently taught me everything I needed to know. She suggested this model because it was pretty robust and "man proof". I've probably only used it a handful of times in the 10 years or so that I've owned it but it was just the tool for the job in this case.

My old sewing machine, I think it's about 40 years old, it belonged to my Nana.
It's o.k. but I would like a newer one but then I feel guilty and sentimental!
