The Loire is the longest river in France and the 171st longest in the world. With a length of 1,012 kilometres, it drains an area of 117,054 km2, or more than a fifth of France's land area, while its average discharge is only half that of the Rhône.

It rises in the highlands of the southeastern quarter of the Massif Central in the Cévennes range (in the department of Ardèche) at 1,350 m near Mont Gerbier de Jonc; it flows north through Nevers to Orléans, then west through Tours and Nantes until it reaches the Bay of Biscay (Atlantic Ocean) at Saint-Nazaire. Its main tributaries include the rivers Nièvre, Maine and the Erdre on its right bank, and the rivers Allier, Cher, Indre, Vienne, and the Sèvre Nantaise on the left bank.

The Loire Valley has been called the "Garden of France" and is studded with over a thousand châteaux, each with distinct architectural embellishments covering a wide range of variations, from the early medieval to the late Renaissance periods. They were originally created as feudal strongholds, over centuries past, in the strategic divide between southern and northern France; now many are privately owned.

The Muiderslot is a castle in the Netherlands, located at the mouth of the river Vecht, some 15 kilometers southeast of Amsterdam. The history of the Muiderslot (Castle Muiden, where muiden means rivermouth) begins with Count Floris V who built a stone castle at the mouth of the river back in 1280, when he gained command over an area that used to be part of the See of Utrecht. The River Vecht was the trade route to Utrecht, one of the most important tradetowns of that age. The castle was used to enforce a toll on the traders.

With around 50 inhabitants, Sint Anna ter Muiden is the smallest city of the Netherlands, that is to say, it is the smallest currently existing locality that not only has historical city priviledges, but also historically used to be an actual city.

Located right on the border with Belgium, it is also the westernmost point of the mainland Netherlands.

River Loire at Muides-sur-Loire

De Muide is a district in Ghent that changed from a village into an urban industrial area when the Ghent-Terneuzen canal was dug in the second quarter of the 19th century. It was characterised by an ever-growing port infrastructure and industrial activity.

In the second half of the 20th century, the decline came as the port moved further north.

This downward spiral was reversed as the district was systematically refurbished. Young families and creative people began to find the district attractive again and brought a new élan to it.

Here too, the City of Ghent has ensured that part of the city's industrial heritage is preserved and incorporated into the new environment.

A little cool in this pretty cellar.

The cellars under the fortress of Chinon are a major asset for an optimal breeding. Mono-plots improve slowly in half-masses, at a constant temperature of 12 ° C and at high humidity (80%).

Under these conditions, the wines are refined and stabilize naturally. The winemaking techniques are ancestral but use all the modernity that allows to preserve the best potential of the grapes (receipt of the vintage by gravity and limitation to the maximum of oenological inputs).

It is in this beautiful and historic place that you can taste the best wines of this winemaker. You can admire these cellars dug in the 10th century to build the castle of Chinon. The two extraction wells connect the cellar directly to the fortress just above.

The Muiderslot is a castle in the Netherlands, located at the mouth of the river Vecht, some 15 kilometers southeast of Amsterdam, in Muiden, where it flows into what used to be the Zuiderzee. It's one of the better known castles in the Netherlands and has been featured in many television shows set in the Middle Ages.

The Muiderslot is currently a national museum (Rijksmuseum). The insides of the castle, its rooms and kitchens, have been restored to look like they did in the 17th century and several of the rooms now house a good collection of arms and armour
