I keep exploring my new macro lens. It is very different from the vintage 50mm primes that I am used to. I am still tying to figure it out.

~~~~~~~~~~~
I took a little, just 4-5 days, break from Flickr. I really enjoy Flickr community, but you still need to have some balance in how much time you spend online. Last week I read this study about Internet use and I cannot get it out of my head since:
"Digital reference library DataReportal in January released its annual Global Overview Report, revealing internet users ages 16 to 64 spend an average six hours, 40 minutes daily surfing the web on any device. That’s about 47 hours a week and 101 days a year. By this estimation, beginning at age 18, a person who lives to be 80 will have spent more than 17 years of their adult life using the internet. It’s worse in the U.S., with Americans spending an average seven hours, three minutes online a day—exceeding 18 years of their adult lives."
It is a challenge to use internet in moderation. Back in 2019 I completely quit Facebook after reading "Digital Minimalism" by Cal Newport. I was thinking about it before I read the book, but the book pushed me over the edge and I have not looked back on Facebook since. Now I am once again working on limiting my internet use, Instagram in particular. It is a challenge, but a prospect of spending years of your life staring on the screen is kinda frightening.
Something different for Macro Mondays today. Haven't even looked at my railroad stuff in the last few years, but for putting things "on a coin" you need to get down to a smaller scale.
This is N-scale or 1:160, a model from Wiking, slightly modified - I've took a 0.5mm drill and a Dremel to make the steering-blob to a steering wheel, and drilled real holes in the towbar.
The coin is a Groschen (10 Pfennig) from 1949, Bank Deutscher Länder, later on it was Bundesrepublik Deutschland on our coins.
...aaaand the moderation needed 15 hours to realise that the rear of the tractor exceeds the rim of the coin. This image was removed in the middle of the night, so no chance to re-up anything. One hour of work for a kick in the groin. Thank you. not.
Note the shadow art. The last two lines of the model's(*) t-shirt read (No room for...) 'sexism' and 'hate'.
THE STORY | LA HISTORIA
(ES) En los comentarios abajo, mi respuesta a Silvia.
Y a continuación, lo pongo en inglés:
(EN) After seeing this compelling sculpture inside MACA, I noticed the guy wearing that outstanding t-shirt with a female friend, now on the same floor. So I thought: ‘Wouldn't a picture be great...’ set against the repressing, ominous overtones of the shadow art. So I walked over to chat and ask. Luckily, he and his friend were both really nice people. I've sent him the larger version pictures from the photo session and hope they're of use in helping him achieve those aims, raise people's consciousness and oppose bigotry.
Barnabé, l'ours brun, avait toujours eu un faible pour le miel !
Il ne pouvait s'empêcher de plonger sa grosse patte dans les pots de miel sauvage qu'il trouvait dans la forêt.
Aujourd'hui, il avait découvert un nid d'abeilles particulièrement généreux. Un festin ! Il s'était régalé, léchant chaque goutte de ce nectar doré et sucré.
Mais voilà, Barnabé avait vu trop grand. Après avoir englouti une quantité astronomique de miel, il commença à se sentir bizarre. Sa tête tournait, ses yeux se croisaient, et une douleur lancinante s'installait derrière ses oreilles. "Oh là là, ça ne va pas du tout", pensa-t-il en se tenant la tête entre ses pattes. "Je crois que j'ai dépassé les bornes cette fois-ci."
Il se traîna jusqu'à son arbre préféré, s'adossa contre le tronc rugueux et ferma les yeux. "Sacré mal de crâne !", grogna-t-il. "Je crois que je vais devoir me contenter de baies sauvages pendant un moment."
Les oiseaux se moquaient gentiment de lui, mais Barnabé était trop mal en point pour leur répondre. Il savait qu'il avait appris une leçon importante : même les meilleures choses doivent être appréciées avec modération.
Et surtout, que le miel, c'est délicieux, mais avec un peu de mesure 🤔
Quite a Headache !
Barnaby, the brown bear, had always had a weakness for honey !
He couldn't resist dipping his big paw into the wild honey pots he found in the forest.
Today, he had discovered a particularly generous beehive. A feast! He had indulged, licking every drop of that golden and sweet nectar.
But then, Barnaby had bitten off more than he could chew. After devouring an astronomical amount of honey, he began to feel strange. His head was spinning, his eyes were crossing, and a throbbing pain settled behind his ears. "Oh dear, this is not good at all," he thought, holding his head between his paws. "I think I've gone too far this time."
He dragged himself to his favorite tree, leaned against the rough trunk, and closed his eyes. "Quite a headache!" he groaned. "I think I'll have to stick to wild berries for a while."
The birds gently mocked him, but Barnaby was too miserable to answer them. He knew he had learned an important lesson: even the best things should be enjoyed in moderation.
And above all, that honey is delicious, but with a bit of restraint 🤔
Apatheia (Greek: ἀπάθεια) in Stoic philosophy refers to a state of mind where one is free from emotional disturbance. This might be translated as equanimity or indifference. This is the root of the word apathy. Apatheia must, however, not be confused with apathy. Apatheia is a positive term; apathy, a purely negative one. Whereas Aristotle had claimed that virtue was to be found in the golden mean between excess and deficiency of emotion (metriopatheia), the Stoics sought freedom from all passions (apatheia). It meant eradicating the emotional response to external events - the things we cannot control. For the Stoics, it was the optimum rational response to the world, for we cannot control things that are caused by the will of others or by Nature, we can only control our own will. This did not mean a loss of all feeling, or total disengagement from the world. The Stoic who performs correct (virtuous) judgments and actions as part of the world-order experiences contentment (eudaimonia) and good feelings (eupatheia). The Pyrrhonian skeptics also sought the eradication of feelings when disturbance depends on belief, but allowed for only a moderation of feeling when based on sensations such as pain. The term was later adopted by Plotinus in his development of Neoplatonism, for whom apatheia was the soul's freedom from emotion achieved when it reaches its purified state. (from Wiki).
Dreams can alienate for brief moments.
This week's topic has to do with things that might be "overdone" in photography. I chose selective coloring. I believe that there are some photos where this technique lends itself nicely and it also taught me how to use the HSL slider in Lightroom - so as with anything - moderation is key
A Kinder Bueno bar, composed of a hazelnut filling encased in a wafer shell, coated in chocolate.
Peanuts, a favorite, but should only be provided in moderation. Raw peanuts may contain a fungus that can hurt squirrels. Unsalted and only in small amounts. Shelled or unshelled are fine.
It is worth noting that peanuts are nutritionally poor for squirrels and salted peanuts should always be avoided.
Q. Do red and grey squirrels eat the same things
Something we could use in the form of at least some moderation from the extremes we've experienced all December so far. But not forthcoming, it seems, as it is again snowing right now and I honestly cannot recall the last time I saw double digits (on the plus side anyway) on the thermometer. The HIGH forecast for tomorrow is 0F (-18 for you celsius folk). An "old man winter" version of the image is in comments in the form of a tintype application. Again, couldn't decide on a preference.
And moderation is the key, of course!
Do you wonder who you are? Do you struggle to define your worth?
Don't worry you are not alone.
The answer is beer -
The phrase "beer is God's way of telling us he loves us" is a popular saying, often attributed to Benjamin Franklin, which suggests that beer is a gift from God meant to bring happiness and enjoyment to people; however, there is no evidence that Franklin actually said this, and the quote is considered a playful interpretation of his views on the matter.
Personally I am a great believer in beer, its taste, flavour and "mood lifting" ability. (All things in moderation).
Arbutus unedo. Madroño.
Árbol / arbusto de hoja perenne característico de las zonas mediterráneas. Curiosamente comparte simultáneamente los frutos en maduración y la siguiente floración en época otoñal tal y como muestra la foto. Así estaban, guapetones y tentadores en el mes de diciembre. Dicen que hay que comerlos con moderación por sus efectos astringentes así como porque en cierta cantidad “emborrachan” (Contienen etanol). No obstante tienen múltiples aplicaciones terapéuticas, alimenticias, farmacológicas y hasta licoreras.
Arbutus unedo.
Evergreen tree / shrub characteristic of Mediterranean areas. Curiously, it simultaneously shares the ripening fruits and the next flowering in the autumn season, as the photo shows. So they were, handsome and tempting in the month of December. They say you have to eat them in moderation for their astringent effects as well as because they "get drunk" in a certain amount (They contain ethanol). However, they have multiple therapeutic, nutritional, pharmacological and even liquor applications.
Arbre / arbuste à feuilles persistantes caractéristique des régions méditerranéennes. Curieusement, il partage simultanément les fruits qui mûrissent et la prochaine floraison à l'automne, comme le montre la photo. Ils étaient donc beaux et tentants au mois de décembre. Ils disent que vous devez les manger avec modération pour leurs effets astringents ainsi que parce qu'ils "s'enivrent" en une certaine quantité (ils contiennent de l'éthanol). Cependant, ils ont de multiples applications thérapeutiques, nutritionnelles, pharmacologiques et même de l'alcool.
Yes, honey does offer several potential health benefits. It's a source of antioxidants and can act as a natural cough suppressant, wound healer, and may even help with digestive issues and oral health. Honey's antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties also contribute to its potential health-promoting effects.
However, honey itself is another form of sugar, and it should be consumed only in moderation.
Drink in style, with these magical straws, when you just need to enjoy your favorite drink, here they are, cute and fun party straws.
It could be an advertisement, but no, it's just because I was kind of bored! 😭
I don't know if this is Liberty or Guardian as I haven't spent all that much time watching them to tell them apart unless they're side by side. But it is one of the pair that has been nesting at Turtle Bay on the Sacramento River in Redding, California, USA. The Friends of the Redding Eagles has set up a web cam on their nest that live streams to YouTube. My wonderful daughter Carlyanne helped with moderation duties on the YouTube feed for awhile although now I think my 3 year old grandson is keeping her a bit too busy. Mrs. Liberty should be laying an egg very soon and it is neat to stop in and look at the cam from time to time. I caught this one flying right over Highway 44 headed downriver in beautiful golden light on a late January morning.
