Early spring, just after Equinox, this old oak has no leaves yet but the mistletoe clusters are happy about the full sunlight.

this is a photo of gorgeous little Mistletoe, future prize winning Finnish Laphund ... and looking adoringly at my friend Erin (off camera - also taking a photo)
Último vidrinho da coleção Christmas Songs by Dany Vianna!

Leafy Mistletoe (Phoradendron villosum) in the huge Black Oaks (Quercus kelloggii) of Yosemite Valley. Upper Yosemite Falls (center, background) is reduced to a trickle, but the spray freezes to the rocks at night.
Eastern Mistletoe = Santalaceae: Phoradendron leucarpum (formerly Phoradendron serotinum)
This specimen was found growing on a cultivated tree in a suburban area in Durham NC (USA) on 13 February 2020. I took some detail shots of the fruit trying to show the seed and sticky pulp.
The entrance to the 71,100 acre Mistletoe State Park in Appling, GA. Situated on Clarks Hill Lake, this park has wonderful hiking trails and is known for its bass fishing. This is the 13th Georgia State Park Megan and I have visited.
Had spotted this avenue of lime trees festooned with mistletoe some time ago and thought there may be an image to be had here. The sillouettes created by the backlighting and the shadows falling on the frosted grass create a pleasing combination. Perhaps dramatic storm clouds or a spooky low light shot may be a future project.
Hough on the hill mistletoe ...near the half-pagan, half-Christian burials at Loveden Hill, and the Saxon church at Hough...the only locality for mistletoe I know in this area.
I love this doll a lot!
I suddenly went out with her because I had to take outside pics of her like right now.
She now needs white eyelashes (but I suck so much at glueing eyelashes T.T)
Precursor of the upcoming full moon, this is a shot from the last month's full moon. Note the bunch of mistletoe nessted in the oak branch just over the moon itself. Good timing since I took it in December.
One could start a very lucrative mistletoe business here in the Sierra Foothills!
Had a TERRIBLE time getting into Flickr and uploading this morning. Hopefully, things have settled down now.

This is biology rather than photography. Here are two mistletoe seeds sending out new growth which will penetrate the apple tree bark on which they're sitting and start a new mistletoe infestation. This is how it works; mature mistletoe form berries which are eaten by birds but the seeds within are toxic so the birds tend not to eat them but just take the flesh and then wipe their beaks on tree branches. The seeds however, are very sticky and adhere to the branches from where they start to grow, penetrate the tree bark and hey presto another mistletoe is formed.
Thanks to all who found this interesting - my thanks go to Helen Lowther - a very knowledgeable gardener who pointed me towards the seeds and told me their story.
A little Christmas themed shoot for Week 18.

According to Christmas custom, any two people who meet under a hanging of mistletoe are obliged to kiss.
The custom may be of Scandinavian origin.
"The mistletoe is still hung up in farm-houses and kitchens at Christmas, and the young men have the privilege of kissing the girls under it, plucking each time a berry from the bush.
When the berries are all plucked the privilege ceases."
The tradition dictates that a man is allowed to kiss any woman standing underneath mistletoe, and that bad luck would befall any woman who refused the kiss.
Mistletoe is the common name for a group of parasitic plants that grow attached to and within the branches of a tree or shrub.
The name mistletoe originally referred to the species Viscum album (European mistletoe, of the family Santalaceae in the order Santalales); it is the only species native to Great Britain and much of Europe.
A broad array of animals depend on mistletoe for food, consuming the leaves and young shoots, transferring pollen between plants and dispersing the sticky seeds
Very much appreciated. M, (*_*)

Since I was a child I have been fascinated by Mistletoe, and we seem to get huge bunches growing in the trees in my area, which I love!
Mistletoe is a parasite and gets most of its food from its host tree - it especially likes apple, lime and Hawthorn trees. Mistletoe berries are a favourite of birds such as Blackcaps; they eat the fat-rich pith but leave the seed attached to the branch, accidentally spreading the seeds and making it possible for a new plant to take root. Mistletoe is evergreen, but is best seen during the winter months (November to February) when balls of mistletoe can be seen hanging from the bare branches of the tree. Mistletoe largely grows in central and southern England.
On the left is a Mistletoe Bird, a native of Australia and some surrounding islands. It eats the berries of the parasitic mistletoe which can be seen on the right. These shots were taken in the Boondall Wetlands where the mistletoe seems to enjoy growing is Casuarina trees.

Mistletoe is the theme this year. I stood under hoping to get some smooching, but not an offer. LoL...
Midwinter greetings to all
Loveden Hill at Hough on the hill, in Lincolnshire...site of an ancient Saxon burial ground, both pagan and Christian. Surely a sacred site? And the only locality I know around here where mistletoe can be found...every tree, elm, oak, hawthorn is festooned with huge bunches of mistletoe!
