Druids hold a misteltoe ritual at Tenbury Wells in Worcestershire. Experts are concerned that the decline of traditional cider orchards will lead to the loss of the mystical plant which grows on host trees. Mistletoe is regarded as a higly magical plant by druids. Photo Caroline Edge.

Okay, there's really no such thing as a mistletoe tree. Mistletoe is often considered a parasite, drawing its minerals and water from the host tree, but it's also considered by scientists as an keystone species, that is, an organism that has a disproportionately pervasive influence over its community.
