"Keep, keep on
Never say die
When in the midst of sorrow
You can' t see up when looking down
A brighter day tomorrow will bring.
You hear the voice of reason
Telling you this can't never be done
No matter how hard reality seems
Just hold on to your dreams.
Don't give up and don't give in
Although it seems you never win
You will always pass the test
As long as you keep your head to the sky
You can win as long as you keep your head to the sky
You can win as long as you keep your head to the sky
Be optimistic." - Sounds of Blackness ♫

Foulden Parish Church is in the midst of this picturesque village which stands close to the border with spectacular views south over the Merse to the Cheviots. The present building was constructed in 1786 although the site dates to medieval times, and is most famous for hosting a meeting of English and Scottish commissioners in 1587 following the execution of Mary Queen of Scots. The church is home to the Foulden & Mordington congregation and received a Grade "B" listing in 1971. Its adjacent Tithe Barn, one of only two left in Scotland, is in the care of Historic Scotland.
"My dear,
In the midst of hate, I found there was, within me, an invincible LOVE.
In the midst of tears, I found there was, within me, an invincible SMILE.
In the midst of chaos, I found there was, within me, an invincible CALM.
I realized, through it all, that...
In the midst of winter, I found there was, within me, an invincible summer.
And that makes me HAPPY.
For it says that no matter how hard the world pushes against me,
within me,
there's something stronger-
something better,
pushing right back."

At 6:15 this morning, out of the fog came Grace doing her sprints, training for her next race. Peace Valley Park, New Britain PA.
This small chapel is located near Kelheim amidst a field that is intensively used for farming. These is no path to the chapel, and it is unknown, how old it is.

This was the first shot I got of the train and, aside from the headlights flaring, I was pretty happy with how everything was going so far; I had just been hoping that the crew wouldn't wye the power in Mirror. So what more could I ask for at this point? Well, as I was about to realize, a lot actually.
In the midst of darkness,
Lies a beacon of light,
Which valiantly defies the night
With uncanny prowess.
Victory seems dutiful,
Success, vain,
But no kingdom can fall
With no loss gained.
The future is uncertain,
And the present is collapsing,
The weak are weeping,
Those strong in Him, forever living.

Wasn't really satisfied with it, so decided to play around with some edits, aiming for a Purgey, alleyway feel.
Lemme know what y'all think. ;D

In the midst of three weeks of rain I put this on FB and stared at it forever thinking I could be here in three or four hours........ Steamboat Rock State Park, Washington State. As always, blow it up and soak it all in, I am! :-)
In the midst of high, lonesome country stretch several valleys of bizarre eroded rock formations known as Valles de Rocas. These strangely shaped badlands are great for a wander and snapping some photos.
From the dusty village of Alota nearby, it’s a three-hour jostle to Uyuni through a string of ‘authentic villages’, the most picturesque of which is Culpina K, which has colorful little houses and a cafe.
I saw her sitting on a bench in the midst of the Market Square and immediately thought of a painting you can find in churches or museums.
She was doing what everybody seems to be doing when they are sitting on a bench, no matter where: texting someone on a smart phone. In my mind's eye, I saw a completely different thing: A Renaissance lady in a brocade dress, writing a love letter to her beloved.

Made in the midst of such tumultuous events, the Sacristy Nova is a very innovative work. Starting from the same floor plan of the Brunelleschi Sacristy (also known as Old Sacristy), Michelangelo divides the space in a very complex way, treating the walls with plans on several levels, with complete freedom. On these plans he added classic elements such as arches, pilasters, balusters and capitals arranged in completely new and harmonious figures and schemes. The well-rounded dome was also a novelty and today is seen as an anticipation of the dome of St. Peter's Basilica, which was designed by Michelangelo at an advanced age, 30 years after the sacristy. Originally Michelangelo had designed an isolated monument in the center of the room, but, after a discussion with the contractor, he changed, trying to place the tombs of the Capitani (the two Dukes) leaning against the center of the side walls, while those of the Magnifici (Lourenço and Juliano), both leaning against the back wall, in front of the altar.

Postscript from the ape:
We are the prehistory that will have the future. We are the remote annals of man. These years are the past of the sky. These years are a certain agility with which the sun draws you into the future. They are the truth or the end... they are god. We are left... those who can smile in the midst of death... in full light.

We're in the midst of a 10-day drought--a rarity for southwest Michigan--so I had to create my own moisture with a mister.

In the midst of the second January thaw when all the snow has melted. I always love the deep, rich colors from the light that Winter brings. These are Allium seed heads.
In the midst of Winter I found this little green branch with colourful leaves. Notice how the snowflakes glitter on the top.
A New Year has started and everyday there is more light and hopefully more sunny days to look look forward to. One step closer to Spring....
.
Dropped by my favorite flower garden to see if there were still any blooms left. Found this dahlia still holding on hidden in the midst of all the green leaves.
We are in the midst of a heat wave and my goodness, it is HOT!
When I'm in the car I love getting off pavement and on the dirt/gravel roads because that's often where I see the most interesting farms, old houses and fields of crops. While I was out other day it was obvious the stretch of hot, sunny weather has created a growth spurt for the corn and other commodities; cows were crowded together under trees trying to find some shade and horses were standing on the shady side of barns.
What also occurs on those dirt roads though is dust. The Tiger Lilies, Queen Anne's Lace, Asters, Bellflowers and Birdsfoot are blooming everywhere making the world look like nature's florist shop and woven throughout is the Crown Vetch creating pink clouds of colour but without much rain they're all getting dusty from the dirt that gets kicked up by passing cars. We need some rain to do some wildflower housecleaning.
When I found a patch that seemed to have escaped the dusty conditions I had a fine time snapping and clicking the shutter for a while until the heat made the air conditioning of the car too compelling. I just got the car back from the garage after some servicing and the air conditioner is now at full function and it's so cold that I swear I could withstand dental surgery without anesthetic. Being too cold is a nice problem to have during a heat wave.
It made me think of all those car trips we'd go on when I was a child and of course we didn't have an air conditioned car then. The windows would be wide open and we'd all be a hot mess by the time we'd get to our destination which was usually a campsite that required the work of setting up camp and blowing up air mattresses. No wonder we'd all make a bee-line for the beach once that was done.
I know I often 'wax nostalgic' about things of the past but there are some things I do not miss in the slightest and the lack of air conditioning is really high on the list.

We are in the midst of the usual southern summer here in North Carolina. Hot, humid, sticky and any other adjectives you can think of. Rain has been intermittent so the creek level is very low. I like it when it’s low like this because then I can explore different vantage points. My water shoes fell apart or otherwise I’d have no issue wading in.

I've found an image which to me sums up how I feel about this new building in Southampton: a depressing darkness with touches of brightness sparkling around.
People seem to be divided, they either love it or hate it. To be fair, it does have interesting features, it does look better at night and it is certainly eyecatching, more images to come shortly.

The Externsteine, are a unique cultural monument that has fascinated people since time immemorial. A medieval, sacred site in the midst of bizarre Sandstone cliffs, this is how visitors experience the Externsteine in the heart of the Lipperland.
The characteristic Rock formation rises up to 40 meters into the air. Both the viewing platform with the staircase from the 19th century, as well as the medieval grotto bear witness to the eventful history.
Above all, however, the relief of the Descent from the Cross, which was carved into the rocks by medieval stonemasons, is of worldwide importance.
The oldest nature reserve in Lippe around the Rock group invites you to immerse yourself in early history with its surrounding forests.
The Externsteine are part of the middle mountain range of the Teutoburg Forest, which is mainly composed of sandstones from the Lower Cretaceous period.
In the course of mountain building about 70 million years ago, the originally flat sandstone was pressed vertically in the area of the mountain range.
This monumental group of rocks, one of the most remarkable natural and cultural monuments in Central Europe, still raises many questions today.

Plunked in the midst of the Central Oregon plateau, Black Butte looks like a misplaced mountain. A steep but view-packed trail climbs 1.9 miles to the panoramic summit, gaining 1,600 feet of elevation. The last portion of this route is difficult enough that it is not generally recommended for hikers with children. The trail crosses a treeless slope that's white in June with the blooms of serviceberry bushes. Expect other wildflowers, too: big yellow balsamroot, purple larkspur, and red paintbrush.

In the midst of a period of windy, wet weather with storm Eowyn 'waiting in the wings' this Barn Owl was out hunting in the last light of day, its legs dangling as it prepared to drop on its prey.
