Fistulina hepatica is an unusual bracket fungus classified in the Agaricales, that is commonly seen in Britain and the rest of Europe, but which can be found in North America, Australia, North Africa, and Southern Africa. As its name suggests, it looks remarkably similar to a slab of raw meat. It has been used as a meat substitute in the past, and can still be found in some French markets. It has a sour, slightly acidic taste.

We walked in slowly. The man in front noticed us and tensed up. "Hello." My dad said calmly "Sure smells good" he said, looking at the meat cooking on the fire. The men laughed. The dark skinned one stood up and held out his hand. "The name's tony" he said. "Please, sit down." "I'm not sitting down just yet" my dad said. I looked at the meat on the pan. I couldn't tell what it was. "Aw come on, I don't bite" Tony's friend said. I kept looking at the meat. "Have some!" The other man said when he noticed I was looking at it. "I am pretty hungry..." Said my dad. I looked at it one more time. Then I knew what it was.

"It's human meat"

"Ah shit" the man said. He drew his gun and fired.

Hey guys! It has been forever since I wrote one of these. To be honest, I have the entire story written out in my head, all the way until the end. I just forget to make these. A lot. Sorry it's been so long I hope you like it!

This is the hunk of meat that Nadia wanted. I was trying the pan to oven approach for this roast, worked fairly well. Made tacos with the left overs.

OMG I have not seen so many gay men in one location, EVER! It's like Pride! Shouldn't be too hard to find a date here...

A local meat market with some interesting decor and darn cool business name. Here's some free marketing.

Here's there mantra:

This is how you buy your meat in Cairo, the truck opens and right off the back of a lorry you tell the butchers which parts you want!

A mouth watering collection of artery constipating meats, from the Mecca of homemade Italian meats, Molinari's Deli on Columbus St. in San Francisco. A great place to get a sandwich, but don't expect to find a veggie or tofu burger. I hear they keep a small quantity of nitro glycerin and a defibrillator on-hand--just in case.

A cool touch: I like how you pick your own roll out of a wicker basket, and hand it to the Deli guy with your order. I'm off to get a snack now.

These guys in Bremen's christmas market serve the yummiest pork steaks ever.

This is the end of the grid as fas as driving goes. By the time you are here you are suffering from chronic scenic overload. It is some seriously awesome driving from St Lawrence to Meat Cove. You are at the northern tip of Nova Scotia and the wind reminds you so.

BTW, this place got its name from sailors who docked here and would stock up on meat and game...

There is a substantial Islamic community in Tibet, especially in and around Lhasa, the capital. Here, a young Moslem vendor sells Halal meat in front of his makeshift 'fast food' tent-restaurant, along one of the busy old town streets. There are many Islamic food sellers in this area.

Check out my Tibet album or my Photostream for other images of Tibet.

Been over 20 years since I have partaken of the dead.

However, now and again I look in a window and think.... mmmm..... meaty!

I go to the Gastown branch (Cambie) when I want some really good Porchetta. Just because it's near my workplace. It's always packed and has become famous for downtowners and tourists. The bokeh on the top left frame is a bit distracting for me but I always go back to looking at the sandwich which tastes great by the way! Try it if you haven't or if you happen to be in town. It's quite near the Steam Clock in Gastown.

We bought this from Winston's Market in Tinley Park Illinois. A great Irish grocery store.

Another photo taken on the same day as the previously-posted one (early April 2018) shows that work was also still taking place behind the meat & seafood counter.

Chinese cured meat is salted, and traditionally, has to be cured not just by the sun, but specifically by the winter wind. Despite sometimes being mistranslated as "wax" meat, there is no wax involved.

Change of diet. This bone doesn't look like it was once part of a rabbit. The snow leopard cubs have moved on to bigger kills.
