The Denmark pattern by Furnivals, later Masons, is most often seen in blue; pink and green were also produced.
The black sugar bowl here has no maker's mark, so might have been a trial piece; any further information welcome.
Although the name 'Denmark' probably alludes to a similar pattern by Royal Copenhagen, the origins of the design go back much earlier.
Another similar pattern produced in Stoke was 'Finlandia' by Myotts (later Churchill) but I have also similar pieces made in France and Germany.
At the Washington County Master Gardener Demonstration Garden at Jenkins Estate, in Hazeldale, Oregon. I believe that the metal mesh is to keep out any animals that might feed on mason bee larvae or pupae.
Mason wasp searching my garage wall (for a possible nest site?). Looks like Symmorphus. Anyone confirm?
Mason is so full of energy. He sits in the pool for a second, runs around to the back of the yard, and then flops back in the pool again--but only for second.
I really like this picture because he look genuinely happy in it. I think It might look better if there was some rim lighting or maybe more face lighting. As the semester went by I learned that it's not so much about how extravagant the pictures are, but what they mean to you, and how well you took them.
Not only did they have a great sense of humour but they could also make fun of themselves. Priceless !
Mason bees emerge from their nests in the spring. These solitary bees lay an egg in the whole and then block it up with clay where it grows until the following spring. Excellent native pollinators! This is the first time I've been able to get pictures of them emerging.
Fort Mason is on a hill above Mason, Texas. It was the last outpost of Robert E. Lee right before he was called to Washington when he was asked to command the Union troops in the Civil War. He refused saying that he would never fight against his home state Virginia. Fort Mason was abandoned in 1869 and most of the buildings were dismantled by the settlers who used the rocks to build homes and barns. This officers barracks has been restored.
This is a fun little event up in the city of Bellaire in Houston around October. They have little events and games for the kids as well as a hayride.
Gina Brown, Director of the Mason Food Pantry on 4th Ave. in Mason has plenty of space on it's shelves that should be filled soon now that the Warren County annual food drive is under way and now the Warren County commissioners have stepped up and is planning to kick in $30,000 for food.
