Mason bees emerge from their nests in the spring. These solitary bees lay an egg in the whole and then block it up with clay where it grows until the following spring. Excellent native pollinators! This is the first time I've been able to get pictures of them emerging.
Here is a sample from my first newborn shoot yesterday. It was very tough, but a good learning experience!
Natural window light was used.

ok, so I think he had gas...this is Mason and Grandpa Pat (notice he has perfected the art of getting money from my dad, who knew all it took was a pocket?)
