Lundeana Thomas, director of UofL's African American Theatre program, and Rinda Frye, theatre department chair, portray Civil War spies in the play "Mason-Dixon." The play March 27 to 29 at Thrust Theatre marks their final performances on campus, as both faculty members plan to retire later this year.
The old trail up to Mason Lake runs along the creek. You hear the water the entire hike to the lake, sometimes rushing close and others far away as the terrain flattens or the trail wanders away from the creek.

To me, mason jars are expectant of what is to come...pencils, flowers, gumballs, cinnamon hearts!
Whatever we choose to use them for, mason jars always provide the perfect canvas.
The subject of my photo is the Mason glass, specifically using the fruit as my focus in the upper right ROT intersection. I had the light of the sunrise filtering through the curtains in my kitchen into my living room setting this glass all aglow. I took a few shots against the wall but found the white just washed out everything I was seeing. I tacked a dark purple dress behind it, and voila. I shot this at a number of ISO settings, starting on Auto and progressing to 3200. Unhappy with most of them, I changed to a macro setting and was able to capture the details better. I was surprised to see that I like the picture with an ISO setting of 500 the best. I think it captured the light and shadows the best.
Not sure what this short (though long) brick structure is in the front yard of the abandoned farmhouse on Kings Mill Road in Mason. A smokehouse? A storage shed? A chicken coop? Any suggestions?
