Two visiting monks from Sera Jey monastery in India and one of the Kadampa Center's resident monks are beginning the process of creating a sand mandala of healing. The monk on the right is one of five monks in the world certified to create these mandalas. It was an amazing process to watch them creating this sacred masterpiece.

Made from dogwood leaves, mums and a pile of acorns and one tiny marigold.

For Our Daily Challenge topic 'Surreal Changes,' which invites us to show how the many changes in our lives are making us feel - with an emphasis on the surreal aspect of it all. The Barong mask is a protective deity I got in Bali when I lived there.. Barong is the god of highest good and protection for the people of the world, in Balinese belief. I put a bracelet of little colored skulls in his mouth. Lemons for vitamin C, set of silverware for caring for others & teapot and cups also. Pearls as precious offering, . But the whole idea started because whenever I see hands in blue and purple gloves I think it looks so creepy ! I wanted to put them into some surreal art. I did consecrate this to the highest good of all, and for the high powers of good healing and protection. You can use this, by adding your prayers, wishes etc, even use your imagination to add something to it.

The main tantric practices can be summarised in the "Four Purities":

1. Seeing one's body as the body of the deity

2. Seeing one's environment as the pure land or mandala of the deity

3. Perceiving one's enjoyments as bliss of the deity, free from attachment

4. Performing one's actions only for the benefit of others (bodhichitta motivation, altruism)

Happy Mandala Monday!! Enjoy

It's been awhile since I've tried my hand at doing a mandala, but gave it a go today for the 30daysofyogaandart class. Very fun and very meditative!

... and I do believe it's true that the creative flame burns in all of us!

I am going to try to add an original Mandala each day. It helps keep me calm at my age !

This will be on top of the photo and graphic image each day. The Mandala will be an extra graphic.

I make my own black black and white backgrounds that I then painstakingly fill shape after shape with a different frame. If anyone wants to use these background I can send a set of those direct to you. Contact me by email.
