This mandala was created with primarily dogwood petals that had fallen from the tree already. I wanted to keep it simple so I stayed within the same color pallet.

Making mandalas is magical, beautiful, powerful and fun. Here I started with a plate, collected a fern, some white fragrant plum blossoms and one rhododendron blossom. I could let this simply be pretty and enjoy it on the table inside today. Or enjoy sitting on the ground with it and a cup of tea. and read a book Today I am going to anoint it with water, incense and a chant for power, protection and healing all over the world - and name it a Health & Protection Mandala for the world.

"mandala (मण्डल) is a Sanskrit word that means "circle". In the Hindu and Buddhist religious traditions, their sacred art often takes a mandala form. The basic form of most Hindu and Buddhist mandalas is a square with four gates containing a circle with a center point.

In various spiritual traditions, mandalas may be employed for focusing attention of aspirants and adepts, as a spiritual teaching tool, for establishing a sacred space, and as an aid to meditation and trance induction.

The psychoanalyst Carl Jung saw the mandala as "a representation of the unconscious self," and believed his paintings of mandalas enabled him to identify emotional disorders and work towards wholeness in personality."

The bright green you see in the background are the leaves of my giant gunnera (Brazilian rhubarb) plant.

Our quiet neighbors are moving -- they rent the house next door. Now I am nervous.

I made this mandala while they were packing up the last of their stuff. May it bring good fortune to us all.
