Always hand-made - no automations or plug-ins.

hand-poured work of beauty by tibetan monks. after a week's work, there is a ceremony to destroy the mandala, sweeping the sand to distribute as blessings and to pour the rest into a river to be taken back into nature.

Another of my hand-drawn patterns, fun to do.

Mandala diario / Daily Mandala

Bought my daughter this colouring book for Christmas, and now I'm using it! Never though I would be doing this outside of a nursing home, but I'm finding it very calming during these long days staying around the house,

"A mandala, which is Sanskrit for “circle” or “discoid object,” is a geometric design that holds a great deal of symbolism in Hindu and Buddhist cultures. Mandalas are believed to represent different aspects of the universe and are used as instruments of meditation and symbols of prayer most notably in China, Japan, and Tibet"

In 2009, an intuitive told me: "You are an artist. If you don't do art, you will die." This surprised me no end because, in my family of origin, my sister had obvious talent and was labeled "the artistic one." Though I enjoyed art, I'd never before identified myself, or been identified by anyone else, as an artist. Immediately, knowing nothing about art materials or technique, I bought some art supplies and started making art. This is one of those first efforts, a series of mandalas. Interestingly, in studies of children's artistic development, the first shapes they express, across cultures, is the circle. So I suppose, in the mandalas, I was recapitulating the stages in my own artistic development. The circle shape had quite a grip on me. Hard to say whether I was making the mandalas, or they were expressing themselves through me. It felt like the latter.

Friends, I've been so busy with the many tasks required to stay alive that there hasn't been much energy or time recently for making new photos. So, to let you know I'm still in the game, I pulled this image out of my art archives. I hope to get back to posting new photos soon. ♥

...Medication or Meditation?

"Practicing mindfulness meditation was shown to be as helpful for anxiety as taking a daily pill, new research shows. The first study ever to directly compare medication to meditation for anxiety finds the two methods work equally well at reducing symptoms."

I was thinking about my challenge for 2013 project way too long and my clay-break in December had done it's job - i could make nothing at all. One of my best friends suggested me to make mandala elephants and i did. I got my peace back, cause to make such an elephant it takes lots of hours (because of the detail size, my elephants still are the same size: 3 x 4 cm), patience and some more patience. Here's the result!

This is a mandala, a symbol for movement from suffering into peace and health, for all of my Moab friends and their families as we head into a belated tourist season with a hitchhiker tourist whose unseen presence threatens us all. Stay safe and stay well.
