One of the joys of having lived in Indonesia some years ago is the lovely collection of silk batik shawls and scarves I now have. They are glamorous and beautiful, created with such talent, all hand-made.

After a long and grey winter last year, I took a walk when the warmer weather finally came in early September, to see the spring blossoms out. Perhaps the most striking change was when I walked past an old almond (prunus dulcis) tree which had exploded into blossom as the weather changed to become more spring like. The last time I had seen it, it was completely dormant and was all twisted limbs and twigs with nothing upon them to show that it was alive!

Spring in Melbourne last year was very beautiful. With a few mild and sunny days following some heavy rain at the beginning of September, the suburban gardens were awoken from their winter slumbers and burst into an array of beautiful colours in many different floral forms.

The theme for “Looking Close on Friday” for the 2nd of April is “blossoming trees”. It's autumn time here now, so no spring blossom is available to photograph at present, therefore I've chosen a blossom shot from my archive from last spring which I uploaded yesterday. This Prunus almond blossom against the bright blue sky seemed a lovely bright, happy and beautiful choice. I hope that you think so too.

The almond is a species of tree native to Iran and surrounding countries but widely cultivated elsewhere. The almond is also the name of the edible and widely cultivated seed of this tree.

The theme for “Looking Close on Friday” for the 25th of February is “monochromatic bubble bokeh”. The day the theme was announced, it was a beautiful sunny morning, and I had the French doors open onto my garden. All I had to do to meet the theme for this week was to take a few steps out onto my back terrace and there was the perfect shot: some new growth on one of the James Stirling Pittosporums bathed in the morning light. The gentle light was perfect to make lots of bubble bokeh in my background as it filtered through the leaves of the trees. The shot was very green in colour, so I originally made the monochrome green, but found the sepia gave it a warmer feel. I hope you like my choice of the theme this week, and that it makes you smile.

My late addition to Looking close…on Friday! Today’s theme is Bee’s. This short and hairy bee is on a beautiful Zinnia.

This beaver was huge and he remained partially hidden in the marsh grasses. But I liked this close up of his head as it shows details in his paws and his tail all in one frame. The early morning sun gave his brown fur some copper highlights.

For the Looking-Close-on-Friday theme "Flowers in Pastel"

For the theme “ Backside””. There are many wonderful layers in the common Chickadee. A black cap, white scarf, grey cape, striped wing and tail feathers, and beige skirt. It even looks like he/she may be in “heels” the way the Chickadee is perched. 😊 This little bird can be proud of it’s backside.
