This shot was put together by dangling a key from my ceiling using a bit of cotton and then using a 50mm 1.8 lens and a lock shape cut out to create the bokeh while shining a torch on the key. All in camera no photoshop (apart from a slight crop).
Seepage on the inside wall of Lock 28 on the Ohio & Erie Canal, known as Deep Lock, since at 17' it was the deepest lock on the canal.
Interesting textures when viewed larger.
James Cook, a 22 metre steel ketch, sail training vessel, locking in to Royal Quays Marina, North Shields.
There was a form of weir - probably a flash lock - at Sonning way back in the 1500s.
The flash lock was replaced in 1773 by the pound lock. This was the highest upstream of the eight locks constructed after the navigation act of 1770. It was commissioned in 1771 but took two years to build. Fir wood was originally used for these locks, but this decayed very quickly and was replaced at Sonning by oak in 1787. Repairs took place in 1827 when the old flash lock was brought back temporarily into use. By this time a lock house had been built.
The lock-keeper from 1845 to 1878 was James Sadler, a poet and beekeeper. He wrote verses about the river and about bees, and is credited with the invention of the Berkshire hive. One of his works The Thames from Oxford to Windsor is a rhymed list of the locks, bridges and towns.
No sense at all, do what you want for I will hunt you Untill you will be Locked away
just so what you'll be scred of me, Behind my power I will hide all my fears
Right now you are punished for absolutely nothing. And I feel so good Because once more I don't have to be honest
With myself While you're locked away Just so you'll be scared of me behind my power
I will hide all my fears
(The Gathering)
This lock is just outside of Reading on the River Thames - a place I walk often with Spike. It is typical of the many locks on the Thames as it makes its way through Oxfordshire into Berkshire and on to it's more familiar manifestation as it runs through the City of London. This shot is taken with a telephoto lens from the top of the hill opposite (where I have taken many of my "cloud" shots). It's for a special Flickr friend in Southern California where the landscape is somewhat different from this lush and lazy green English countryside!

The last visitor has left the recently renovated Gruuthusemuseum, a museum of applied arts in Brugge, located in the medieval Gruuthuse. Time to lock-up for the night.
A little more work with some extra wall and some greenery around the bottom and the scene becomes more realistic. A tree has been added behind the wall, and the whole has been photographed in front of a photographic backscene for the full effect.
A model of my old black Prefect is seen here by a two door Anglia version of the Ford 100E.
Had some nice light this morning, so slight divert driving into Manchester this morning and went past Lock 57, near Sandbach, and thought it looked worth a shot. 3 XPs HDR. Best on black. Shot around 06:30am.
This is another outtake from my 2016 Photo a Day Project 366. This photo was one I particularly liked, but it just didn't make the day's cut. (For anyone who's curious, this was the photo I posted that day: flic.kr/p/JxJjdY).
This image worked for me because of the simplicity of the composition, the lines and shapes of the fence and the lock, and the added visual interest of the shadows.
Maybe originally for two families this house is now privately owned. If memory serves me correctly then this is Tarvin Lock by the A41 bridge.
Sandford Lock is located on the Chelmer and Blackwater Navigation River and Canal not too far from the City of Chelmsford in the County of Essex (UK).
In the distance is Bundock's Bridge which dates back to the opening of the Navigation in 1797 and is classified as a Grade II listed building.
This location is just one nautical mile virtually to the inch from my home. A very amiable part of the world and a lovely towpath walk from Chelmsford city centre which eventually ends up about 10 miles away in the town of Maldon.

Lime House Lock - Chesterfield Canal
Had a wander along the Chesterfield Canal at Shireoaks near Worksop. There are several locks in close proximity to the west of Shireoaks. Plenty to see along the way and plenty to photograph. Will definitely be back now the area has been scouted.
Locked up to be left behind in hell...

This is a photo I took of my pet dog Harley.
I locked the baby safety gate while she was still in the hallway and she ended up looking through the bars like as if she was in prison with a sad expression on her face.
The paw through the bars really made this a image so I had to get my camera and take a few black and white images.
