I really believe there are things nobody would see if I didn’t photograph them.
With a zoom lens into the sun, this image is a bit grainy, but you can still pick out the handsome, unflashy church up the road from us. It was surrounded by majestic cedars until a couple of years ago, and this view would have looked very different. They became unsafe and had to be chopped down. Taken from the other side of the valley on Berkhamsted Hill, above the castle.
Covid-19 Lockdown boredom. A couple of weeks ago I decided to stop shaving. Anyway, it's a beautiful day here in southern England so have been out in the sunshine. It was warm enough for me to just wear my West Ham shirt and shorts,
Prunus spinosa, blackthorn, early blossom. This is an amalgam of five hand-held images, focus stacked in Photoshop. (I think this is a dogwood but it could be another variety of Prunus.)
during the lockdown , minimal activity along the main roads of metro manila that would normally be busy with vehicles, as media would refer to as "signs of the times"
Went for an early morning walk the other day in the glorious weather. I'm not quite sure what this is, but would guess Blackthorn - anyway whatever it is - it is very pretty. Haven't seen this flare artifact before - but quite like it!

during lockdown the best time to commute using the bicycle, hardly any cars on the road . just remember to bring plenty of water and food supplies as there are few food establishments open
Cleaning out some old folders tonight - found the folder "bees in lockdown' from 2020 - from one of the many walks I'd made over the road into Blackbutt Forrest ..

According to their latest newsletter, activity has been fizzing at the Sunnyside allotments. People are desperate for some freedom beyond these pesky restrictions; and allotmenteering is so good for mental health and wellbeing. Not mine though. I used to have a plot just beyond the church at the back of this photo. I couldn't take the stress after rats ate my carrots, badgers snaffled my sweet corn and fallow deer trampled my fluted pumpkins. Tsk.
The Mill Bridge over the River Leam in Royal Leamington Spa is awash with padlocks, locked on by members of the public. Looks great.
Anyone remember Shillingbury Tales? A gentle drama starring Robin Nedwell and Diane Keen back in the 80's. It was filmed here in this 'idealised English village'. The pretty settlement has a pond, stocks on the green and two (closed) pubs. It has also provided the backdrop to episodes of Midsomer Murders, Inspector Morse and The Avengers. This pic is from Ashridge on our epic 12 mile walk this morning. My feet are humming.
Yesterday, Thursday, the Ontario government started a stay-at-home order that will last 28 days and could be extended if the current third wave of the COVID virus does not drop. During this period all nonessential retailers will close to in-person shopping. Indoor dining is prohibited and gyms plus personal care services, except medical offices, are closed. No more than 5 people outdoor gathering is allowed. Our city of Cornwall currently has 133 active cases, our Health Unit reports the 85th fatality and the largest increase posted in 24 hours, possibly due to Easter related infection of the new variant. Number of cases in the local community hospital is up to 17 with 4 in the ICU. Elective surgeries are now being canceled. Cornwall is now declared as a hotspot and hopefully we will get pharmacy to administer vaccination ASAP!
