What would locals like visitors to know about Hawai'i?

Hawaiian: He aha ka ‘ike ko‘iko‘i a kūpono no nā malihini e kipa ana mai i Hawai‘i? (Literal translation: What is the required and appropriate knowledge for the newcomer visiting Hawai‘i?)

On June 4, 2010, the Rancho Cucamonga Library celebrated the rich local history of our city by having a Local History Cultural Arts Night.

The focus of the event was to debut our digital storytelling project, which was funded by a grant by the California State Library and Library Foundation. In addition to our stories, we also featured the first *and* current mayors of Rancho Cucamonga, exhibits and displays from local historical societies, a vintage fire truck, California history-related programs and crafts for children, and local authors from Rancho Cucamonga. We also opened our new Local History room as well.

All in all, a great event!

The Custom House was built in 1683 by Henry Bell, a local "gentleman architect" (Pevsner). Paid for by Sir John Turner a local merchant.

It lies between the town centre and the river on the small dock known as the Purfleet.

Nearby is a statue of local sailor/explorer George Vancouver (1757 to 1798). He explored and charted the north west coast of North America and the city of Vancouver is named in his honour.

In the Purfleet today (2015) is an art installation consisting of seagulls on long poles attached to small red buoys.

Another store front...hmmm, it's still here, so I either didn't sell them one, or did another and this is a reject. Some of these might be nice in color, but at the time it never crossed my mind to do that., even though it was drawn on paper that would take the watercolor wash.

Local Daddagiri's

Myna evicting egg from the nest of other birds. They attack and remove the eggs/break it so that other birds are forced to leave the nest and these myna's occupy.

In this case, it was the nest of babbler once and not anymore. They normally target woodpeckers/parakeets/etc.,
