En casi una milésima

de segundo

se puede atrapar

el resumen de nuestra vida:

luz y oscuridad,

días de sol y lluvia.

Simplemente,

claroscuros.

Fieles compañeros

de un viaje,

de final incierto.

Fiel amigo,

mi ojo cíclope,

fría pupila

firmemente asida

entre mis manos

pestañea obediente

a mi señal,

según mis instrucciones,

y se obra el milagro:

Claroscuros,

ahí afuera,

de un sábado

cualquiera,

de la vida

de cualquiera.

In almost a thousandth

second

can be caught

the summary of our life:

light and darkness,

sunny and rainy days.

Simply,

chiaroscuro.

Faithful companions

of a trip,

of uncertain ending.

Faithful friend,

my cyclops eye,

cold pupil

firmly grasped

between my hands

blink obediently

at my signal,

according to my instructions,

and the miracle works:

Chiaroscuro,

out there,

of a saturday

anyone,

of the life

of anyone.

We went to see the Kumano Sanzan shrines in the Kii Mountain Range in Wakayama in Japan. The three big shrines are "Kumano Hongu Taisha", "Kumano Hayatama Taisha" and "Kumano Nachi Taisha". We got up very early to take night shots and sunrise shots at the Kumano Nachi Taisha. The sun came up behind pillars, and cast nice shadows.

I processed a paintery, a balanced, and a photographic HDR photo from three RAW exposures, blended them selectively, and carefully adjusted the color balance and curves. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.

Used dodge and burn using Photoshop CS2. Some calls it "Painting with Light."

For those of you who are asking for a step-by-step workflow, I don't have one.

But here are the things I did.

I just went straight to the picture and used a soft brush with various sizes (from large to small). And worked with dodge and burn with 4% settings.

Added clouds to the white sky.

Applied white radial gradient to the focal point.

Duplicated the original picture with the blurred version at about 40% and blended. Just now, I just learned that it's called the Orton effect.

Masking ability is also very important.

And pure imagination and desire to come up with some fabulous image.

Just use google for dodge and burn and orton and painting with light for more gradual and detailed workflows.

If you ask me, I call it "Lights and Shadows".

So, now you know.

In a winter morning

The post-industrial housing estate of Księży Młyn ( Priests' Mill )and the area around the former Scheibler factory in Łódź in black and white.

Seen in the skies of The Netherlands: a flat cloud patch, containing some lenticularis clouds, is casting an impressive shadow on a layer of overcast clouds below. High altitude cirrus clouds and some contrails complete this almost surreal picture. It kind of reminds me of an alien spacecraft in some science fiction movies.

This photo was taken using an iPhone XR phone camera and post-processed in Lightroom.
