Been to Lumsdale Falls tonight with Chris Thompson and James Mills and had a cracking time. What a peach spot this is. Lots of waterfalls and then a great big lp playground for once it goes dark.
I got there bright and early for some LE waterfall shots whilst it was still light.
Once dark we set to work. Boxed Chris' shot off first then concentrated on this one.
Red gelled flashgun on full power/ 24mm fired up from my feet. Flash 2 from light stand, bare and directly behind me for the rim , full power 115mm. Chris with the net curtain front and back followed by a bull dog clips worth of wool shaken about around the rim of the tub I was stood in which unfortunately you can't see.

What's all this shouting....We'll have no trouble here.
We went to San Francisco, first for sunset near the Golden Gate bridge, then for the moonrise. Our first stop was the Sutro Heights Park at Sea Cliff. The sun was low, casting nice shadows and silhouettes.
I processed a balanced, a paintery, and a photographic HDR photo from three RAW exposures, blended them selectively, carefully adjusted the curves, and desaturated the image. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.

Shadows of the orchid bouquet at my neighborhood cafe. I liked the subtle shades of color, depths of shadow, and graceful lines.

We went hiking in up on the Angels Landing trail in the Zion National Park in Utah, USA. The trail is at times very steep. This is a straight portion with a nice view over the valley. Higher up are the so called Walter’s Wiggles, a trail with a series of 21 steep switchbacks.

We attended rocket launches in the Mojave Desert in California last April. Afterwards we headed to nearby Garlock to explore the small ghost town with our cameras.

We spent a night in a historical town from the Edo period. Narai-juku (奈良井宿) was the thirty-fourth of the sixty-nine stations of the Nakasendō, located in the Nagano Prefecture, Japan. The Nakasendō (中山道) was one of the five routes of the Edo period, and one of the two that connected Edo (modern-day Tokyo) to Kyoto. Policemen arrived at sunset to talk to a local shop owner.
I captured this shot in the late afternoon at sunset. The long lens brings buildings close together. I processed a balanced HDR photo from a RAW exposure, adjusted the color balance and pulled the curves.

Earlier this year we went to see Hanami, the cherry blossoms at Hakone Gardens, a Japanese garden in Saratoga, California. It was an enchanting experience to walk at night below cherry trees in full blossom, and along other trees.
I processed a balanced, a paintery, and a realistic HDR photo from four RAW exposures, blended them selectively, carefully adjusted the color balance and curves, and desaturated the image. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.

I asked my Shinto priest friend living in Nagoya if I could take photos of a Shinto ceremony. She happily agreed, and we met at the Kumanosansha shrine in Nagoya, Japan. After an official ceremony with locals in the main shrine building we did a photo shoot with priests and volunteers. The Shinto priest performs a ritual purification with a wand called Onusa. I'll likely use this photo at the upcoming "Japan Then and Now" exhibition at the Art Ark Gallery in San Jose, California this August.

I finally brought my camera to work to capture the beautiful lines and light of the entryway to my building. Always neat to look at in the morning.
A special day for the quality of the light on Exmoor. This was taken near Tivington in Somerset East Exmoor or maybe just outside the National Park.

One of those nights where aimless shooting evolves into something I'm happy with.
Trying to blow out the background here was a mare though. I've never shot at this wall in the kitchen before and I was having a mare trying to blow out the background whilst maintaining a completely blank silhouette. The light just kept on bouncing around my mainly white kitchen and back onto my face. Got as close as I could and boosted the whites in LR and dropped the shadows and blacks for the desired effect. One bonus from this is some of the light lit the palm of my hand for some added detail.
My favourite pcb on a lightstand backlit with my lenser. Cap on and framed and focused to a pre determined spot and cap off again. Yongnou 560 iv snooted, pointing at back wall directly behind me. Struck the pose and popped the flash.

two children walk side by side, their quiet steps echoing through the dim, urban tunnel. the neon lights overhead flicker, casting faint reflections on the polished tiles. they carry remnants of the dayâperhaps candy or toysâbut their faces betray a mix of focus and weariness. the world around them, grimy and shadowed, feels far too vast for their small figures. they walk together, yet somehow the space between them and the city stretches infinitely. everything is still, but something about their path feels unresolvedâlike a passage through the unspoken loneliness of a city night.

We are currently preparing an art show in San Jose, California, called Travel Perspectives: Explore | Experience | Connect. We are three San Francisco Bay Area photographers who share our perspectives and styles in an exhibition celebrating the intentional and opportunistic traveler. If you are nearby please join our opening reception at the Art Ark Gallery on Friday, September 2nd. In September and October we'll offer 6 presentations about photography and travel. See details at www.artarkgallery.com/travel-perspectives.html
I'll exhibit this photo at the gallery. In summer of 2020 we went to the Hawk Hill, located in the Marin Headlands just north of San Francisco's Golden Gate. Waiting for sunset and moonrise, we lingered around at the top. When it was time for moonrise we walked through the tunnel. The sun aligned perfectly for a tunnel-henge, casting a long shadow on passerby.

The Golden Gate Park in San Francisco has a lot of diversity. Besides museums and car-free zones there is a lot of greenery. When we walked through the park I found this play of light and shadows on a tree trunk covered in moss.
I processed a balanced HDR photo from three RAW exposure, carefully pulled the curves, make the shadows slightly colder, and the highlights slightly warmer to make the scene pop.

A sweet early evening jaunt to the Kiln on the Monsal Trail with Leon and Rob tonight. Met up nice and early and found the Kiln completely flooded. Leon and Rob bagged theirs and then I got set up. Did a couple which didn't really do it then did a little camera rotation which did.
Pretty simple net curtain action in two different colours with a 180 in between.
Looking forward to getting out again soon chaps. Nice 1.
